Cherries on Top

Really good results for September, enjoying this so far, keep this up.

After our good month of September I was hoping that we could continue our good form into October. Our first opponent was West Bromwich Albion who have had a mixed start to the season aswell.

They didn't start this game badly at all however and got an early lead as Berahino scored as a result of a corner kick. Only a few minutes later Olsson did exactly the same resulting in us being down 2 goals after only 13 minutes played.

We continued to struggle for the rest of the match and I made several changes over the course of the game. They finally seemed to take effect in the 75th minute after Wilson scored giving us the encouragement to push on for that equaliser.

Our hard work finally paid of in the 89th minute after Wilson got on the end of a cross from Bennett making it 2-2 giving us another point to continue our unbeaten run.

One negative thing is that Daniels got injured over the course of game but luckily it is only a minor injury and he should be fit again for the game against Arsenal in 2 weeks.

Credit were credit is due, I critisised Wilson at the start of the season but after our little talk he seems like a different player and today he really came through for us scoring twice.

Fantastic result against United but you've been very unlucky with injuries!

Coming into this game I knew that it was going to be a very difficult one for us. Arsenal have had an excellent start to the season and are currently at the top of the table, we had to be at our best to get something out of this game.

We actually put up a good fight and were pretty much equal to Arsenal in the first half with both teams created a fair share of chances but neither managing to make them count. Just at the brink of half time however Tomlin made a stupid foul inside our penalty area which resulted in Arsenal getting a penalty. Arteta made no mistake and put Arsenal in the lead.

Despite being behind we continued our valiant performance and again created some good chances at getting an equaliser but just like at the start of the season our finishing was disappointing to say the least. Then in the 64th minute Mertesacker scored a powerful header from a corner kick to make it 2-0 for the Gunners. Despite our best efforts this was also how the game ended.

Despite the disappointing result I am rather satisfied with our performance, it wasn't until Tomlin made a stupid foul that Arsenal managed to get a goal and take somewhat control of the game. Their second goal came from a set piece so again they didn't manage to score a single goal during regular play which shows how much of a fight we actually put up.

An away game at Goodison Park is never going to be an easy affair but we seemed up to the task and put in an excellent performce in the first half. Matt Ritchie made it 1-0 for us in the 29th minute resulting in us going into the break with a 1-0 lead.

In the second half we continued our impressive performance and in the 60th minute Ritchie scored his second goal of the game giving us a 2 goal lead. At this point things completely turned around however as Everton managed to score twice in the space of 2 minutes(!) making it 2-2. This would also be the final score.

Overal I am very disapointed with this result as we had a 2 goal lead and just gave it away within a couple of minutes, I suppose when you look at the overal game a draw is a fair result but still if we want to stay up we need to keep our heads in the game for 90 minutes and when we have such a solid lead we should see it out.

In the week after the Everton and before the Southampton game we received some bad news
View attachment 204998
View attachment 204997
Yup, that's right our 2 main full backs are going to be out with injuries for the next couple of weeks. Charlie Daniels has been in very good form for us this season, he won the Barclays Player of the Month award in September, and he will be sorely missed.

Still I suppose there's nothing we can do about it. We'll just have to keep soldiering on and hope for the best...

View attachment 204996With both our main full backs out I knew from the beginning that this would be a very difficult game and it was.

Too be honest there is not much that needs to be said about this game, we were simply completely outclassed by an excellent Southampton performance.

Both Mane and Correa put in a fantastic performance for Southampton and lead their team to victory. We meanwhile barely created any chances and simply weren't good enough.

Overal a deserved defeat. Our performance was not good enough and if we want to end above the relegation zone we'll have to do better then we did today.

October Review
View attachment 204985

So October, overal a rather disapointing month. The draw against West Brom was somewhat lucky but I'd still argue that we played a good game. In the game against Arsenal we played really well but ultimately an individual error from Tomlin and simply the difference in class made the difference.

The game against Everton was a very disappointing one because we were up 2-0 and gave the three points away in the space of a few minutes. I suppose a draw at Goodison Park isn't the worst result in the world but we could have and should have gotten more from the game.

The Southampton game saw our worst performance of the season so far as we were completely outclassed on every level. I feel that losing both our full backs right before the game played a massive part in this but I still expected more fight from the team, especially given that it was a local derby which meant a lot to the fans.

While our results aren't exactly brilliant several of our players got into the team of the week. First Callum Wilson for the game against West BromView attachment 204977
And then both Elphick and Surman for the game against Everton

Table

View attachment 204980This is the table after 11 games played. At the top we find that Chelsea have taken over the lead from Manchester City who's bad form has seen them drop into 3rd place. Completing the top 4 are Arsenal whom are currently in 2nd place and Manchester United who are 4th.

At the bottom we find that Stoke City and Aston Villa are still in trouble, we meanwhile have also fallen into the relegation zone following our mediocre performances and are currently in the 18th position. There is now also a 4 point gap between us and the 17th place so it will be very important not to let this gap get any bigger.

News

Harry Arter came to me this month to tell me that he feels that he has outgrown Bournemouth and wants a new challenge. I tried to change his mind as he is a great player for us but he was determined to get his way.

In the end I agreed to sell him during the next transfer window as I don't have any use for players who don't want to fight 100% for the club.

A Look Ahead: November

View attachment 204974

As you can see November is going to be a very difficult month. First we will face the current league leaders Chelsea at the Vitaly Stadium before heading to London in what is going to be a very tricky tie against West Ham who are currently in 5th place. We finish of the month with another home game this time against Watford who are currently 12th.

After our terrible performance against Southampton I knew that our current tactic wasn't going to work without our full backs who are currently out injured so I decided for a massive change in style. I had only one goal going into this match and that was not too concede too many goals and to try and get a point.

This change seemed to work really well as we were very solid in defensive regard to make it even better we hit Chelsea on the counter in the 16th minute and Marc Pugh put us infront against the league leaders.

Chelsea then started to go all out on attack and managed to score the equaliser in the 33th minute through Eden Hazard.

For the rest of the game we defended with everything that we had and it worked as we prevented Chelsea from scoring any more goals resulting in a huge point for us.

I guess you could say that we pulled a Mourinho on Mourinho...

Really good start to this, love the realistic saves and reading about a struggle! Keep it up! :)

View attachment 204703West Ham have been really impressive this season so I knew it was going to be a tough afternoon. I opted to again use a defensive approach as it had served us well during the Chelsea match.

Against Chelsea we managed to prevent them from scoring any goals for almost 90 minutes, it took West Ham only 2... Going behind also meant that my defensive approach would be useless as we needed to make something happen so I switched back to our regular more attack minded way of play.

Unfortunately this was no good as West Ham were by far the better side. It came as no suprise that they managed to extend their lead before half time.

During the second half West Ham continued to be the better team and simply dominated the rest of the match. The only positive thing is that we didn't concede any more goal making the final score 2-0.

The West Ham game was a real wake up call for me as I am now finally getting to feel as if we are in trouble.

From now on in we are going to play football the way that we want to play it, full with attacking passions and aggresive pressure. If we are going to go down we are going down with honor!

We actually played really well during this game and I truly feel that we should have gotten more out of this one. Overal though I am very pleased with the way that we played and if we can continue to play this way I am confident that we'll be picking up some points really soon.

Another positive to note is that we actually gotten our first clean sheet of the season... pretty ironic considering I actually went all out on attack...

November Review
View attachment 204684November, not sure what to make of it.

Getting a draw against the league leaders was huge for us, unfortunately the boost that we got from that match was only short lived as West Ham United beat us very convincingly in what can only described as a relegation worthy performance. The game against Watford was very pleasing in terms of the football that we played but ultimately we fell short again and only gotten ourselves a draw.

Still like I said the Watford result was pleasing to see and despite the fact that things are looking pretty badly right now I have faith that if we continue to play like that we will get some more points on the board.

Table

View attachment 204683At the top of the table we find that Arsenal are now 1st having overtaken Chelsea who have had an appalling month. Manchester United have moved into the third spot while West Ham complete the top 4. Special mention to Norwich who are doing extremely well this season and are currently in 5th place!

Down at the bottom we find that Stoke are at the bottom of the table while we find ourselves in the 19th place with 9 points from 14 games. Villa are 1 point ahead of us in the 18th position. A positive thing is that the "safe zone" is only 3 points away as Newcastle are 17th with 12 points.

A Look Ahead: December

View attachment 204682
December is going to be a very important month for us. Not only have we got some tough games coming up against Manchester City, Liverpool (twice) and Tottenham. We also play 2 very important games against fellow relegation strugglers Newcastle United and Aston Villa.

View attachment 204681
Before we headed into the game against Manchester City we received news that another one of our players suffered an injury, luckily it was only a minor one
View attachment 204679
I also arranged for a team meeting to be held, I told the team about the importance of this upcoming month and that while things haven't been going right for us so far I have full faith that we can turn things around. Thankfully the entire team agreed and we now go into December with moral at an all time high.

View attachment 204680
Despite moral being high however we all knew that we were very unlikely to get anything against Manchester City. The only thing that we could do was give it our all and hope for the best.

City seemed to be aware of the fact that they were favourites to win this game as they immediately scored within the 1st minute of the match. We played well and got some excellent chances but it was again City that scored as Wilfried Bony made it 2-0 for the Citizens. Right before half time we did manage to get one back through Matt Ritchie but City immediately replied as Silva made it 3-1.

In the second half we continued to put up a spirited display but the difference in terms of quality was just too much and we couldn't force anything in our favour. City didn't manage to create anything noteworthy either anymore and so the game ended in a 3-1 for City.

View attachment 204675View attachment 204674
We went into this game knowing that a good result against Newcastle would be huge for us as they are only a few points ahead of us in the league. Newcastle were also aware of this and so the stage was set for a real spectacle.

This was truly an amazing game from both sides, both teams have been struggling this season and saw this match as an opportunity to get a positive result, unfortunately for us Newcastle just were a little more clinical then us so they ended up with the 3 points in the end.

While I am disappointed to have lost this one I am extremely proud of the team, granted we picked up a few more yellow cards than I would have liked but in the end we gave it our all and we definately deserved more from this match.

We've been playing really well lately, the only thing that is missing are the results to back that statement up.

Heading into this game I felt that a loss would make the gap between us and the "safe zone" would end up being so big that it would be incredibly tough to bridge it. Simply said we needed a win.

During the first half we absolutely controlled the entire game and we got 2 goals to show for it. In the second half we continued our impressive performance and Callum Wilson made it 3-0 for us.

It that point it looked like we were heading for a very easy win, Aston Villa had other plans however. They started pushing forward with all that they got and managed to get 2 goals back through Agbonlahor and Gueye, luckily that was all they managed to get and so we headed home with 3 very, very important points!

View attachment 204670View attachment 204669
We headed into this game with confidence sky high, we are playing great football at the moment and the win against Aston Villa has finally showed that in terms of points.

We continued this game were we left of against Villa, by dominating our opponents. Callum Wilson opened the score for us in the 22nd minute capitalising on a mistake from Lovren and Ritchie then made it 2.

In the second half we picked up were we left of in the first half and even managed to make it 3-0 after Mignolet suffered a typical Mignolet incident. For the rest of the game we continued to be the better side but failed to express this with any more goals.

A superb performance from us sees us get another 3 points giving us our first consecutive win of the season and our 2nd clean sheet aswell.

After us winning 2 games in a row I knew that something had to go wrong and it did
View attachment 204662Still, nothing was going to get us down, bring on Tottenham!

View attachment 204661Boxing day arrived and so did our game against Tottenham, could we continue our good form or would Tottenham prove to be too much?

Like the previous two games we were the better team for the entire first half, creating plenty of goalscoring opportunities, Murray finished one of these in the 7th minute to give us an early lead.

In the second half Tottenham got back into the game and it didn't take long for them to equalise as ex-Leverkusen man Son Heung-Min scored in the 52nd minute. For the rest of the game both teams were evenly matches and both teams got opportunities to take the lead but in the end none of the opportunities ended up in the net and so both teams shared the points.
