Good evening, Ladies and Gents,

Welcome to my story of what a lot of people have widely regarded as an extremely hard challenge to overcome. Stopping Chester from getting relegated.

I am aiming to do this, not only because I like Chester (because my Girlfriend lives there, and her and her Dad supports them) but because I'm aiming to impress my misses' Dad!

But seriously, I want to try and complete this challenge, and I want everyone at FM Base to be there, with me, supporting me if you will, as I aim to take Chester out of the relegation zone, and after 2 seasons back into League 2.

I will NOT be saving and loading constantly, I will happily provide screenshots to prove this if needed.

I will constantly be updating this monthly (in game time, obviously!).

Noone here knows me, I'm a roamer on the forums and have only recently joined the forums, a bit about my FM10 career so far:

My main and only save is Oxford. I took them into the Play Offs in my first season and got us promoted back to League 2, beating York in a thriller, we also won the FA Trophy. In League 2 I managed to pull of some great free transfers and loans and we won the league going on a 24 unbeaten run. We won League 2 with 5 games to spare.

Anyways, I hope I get a few followers and I hope I'll make this interesting for you to stick with and follow.

Let the show begin.

ill follow definitely, this is the hardest challenge on fm 2010 no doubt, hope others follow it too

Cool I'm doing this as well!
I like a challenge :D

Will follow yours with interest, see whose the better manager lol.

I think I'm on -2 with about 15 games played. I would be 6th without the points deduction, so not a bad start, a repeat of this form should be enough to keep me up I think/hope!

One player I'd recommend Henrik Ojamaa from Derby on loan... him and Chadwick are banging them in for me.

Sorry for banging on about my career in your topic!

theres nothing wrong with that mate dont let anyone tell you differently, and yeah ojamaa was good on fm 08 so id guess hes good on this one

Good luck Daz! I'll be playing 4-1-3-2 tactics myself, but during the pre season I'll be looking at whom to get on the free/loan market. My top tip for you is Ben Wright. Loaned him at Oxford during our l2 domination and he scored 22 goals in 40 appearances, top player.

Pre season finished.

Results are:

Chester v Chester Resv. - 1-0 Win
Chester v Boston United - 4-1 Win
Chester v Torquay - 1-0 Win
Chester v Airbus - 3-0 Win
Chester v Millwall - 3-1 Loss
Chester v Droyslden - 2-1 Loss

Great news! Nick Chadwick got an injury against Airbus and is out for 5-6 weeks.

Juuuust what I needed, and I was hoping to get of to a good start in the season!

lol unlucky with the injury, you made any signings
and a great result against torquay

A lot of rejections on the Free transfer market. Not enough wages to give out, and a bit scared to release a player to make room, and then run into trouble as I said.

I have only been able to secure 2 good deals so far;

Jeff Whitley on a Free - I got him on a free on my Oxford save on my first season and he is still in my first team when we're in L1 - great player and slots in nicely into my DMC position.

I also loaned Ejamaar as suggested, had to really when Chadwick got injured. He is playing really well and looking forward to getting Chadwick back and playing them both up front. Got Ejamaar as a Poacher and Blundell as a Deep Lying Forward. Working really well.

Wasn't going to up date so earlier, but first 3 games so far have gone like this:

Chester v Grays - Away - 1-0 Loss - disallowed a goal 2 minutes into the game for Offside - Referee made the wrong decision! They then scored in the 87th minute, despite changing tactics to Contain to hold out for a draw.

Chester v Gateshead - Home - 2-0 win - Fantastic result especially at home and gets us of the mark to what I hope will be a string of results, Whitley having a fantastic debut. Blundell and Roberts the scorers.

Chester v Cambridge - Home - 2-1 Win - Another amazing result at home giving the fans something to get tickets for the future I hope! Kay with an amazing freekick on the 33rd minute. Cambridge draw level on 68th minute due to a shoddy pass. But Blundell gets on the score sheet once again on the 74th minute, making me think.. Do I need Chadwick?

-19 Points, still sitting bottom, but after the 3 fantastic games so far my hopes are high. I say the game at Grays was still good is because it was away, and we dominated the game even though we lost.

Update on the Transfer Market:

Just got Michael Standing in on a Free Transfer to strengthen my Midfield, extremely happy to get him in and expect him to make a good impact in games.

As Victor Meldrew would say:

UNBELIEVABLE.

My best right back has just got a 'Serious viral infection' and is out for the rest of the season. Time to think hard on the Loan/free transfer market!

Chadwick has returned to full training, which is great. And we have had 2 extremely tough games away since I last updated you:

Chester v Oxford - Away - 1-0 Loss - Constable was on form, sadly for us, as he clinches a goal on the 36th minute. Happy with the result, but would have been more happy to walk away with a point.

Chester v Luton - Away - 2-1 Win - I expected 3 goals minimum, but none of them in our favour! We go into half time 0-0. Everyone is playing extremely well apart from Ejamaar - I declare myself pleased, but tell Ejamaar to get out there and prove a point! And he did. We go ahead 54th minute thanks to Blundell and a perfectly timed pass from Ejamaar. Craddock puts the teams on level terms on the 76th minute, but I'm happy with a draw! A great through ball from Whitley, and Ejamaar latches onto it, he is alone as he runs into the box, and he is taken down! PENALTY! Kay steps up and puts us 2-1 in the lead on the 78th minute! Great response!

Now -16 points.

Early days mate, early days!

We will pretty much know if I'm getting relegated or have a chance of survival by Christmas I think.

I've secured a loan from Sunderland Reserves Right Back; Michael Kay. He'll be Glenn Rule's replacement and I am hoping he can fit Rule's spot nicely.

So far we've been amazing. A few set backs on injuries, but we're overcoming this by playing amazing football, getting fantastic results, and keeping fans coming to our Stadium by getting 13 points out of a possible 15.

Won't add much, I'll let the screenshots below do the talking!

I am starting to feel more confident that I can do this with every match we play!

loving this as i am a chester resident, may give it a go myself. what is your media prediction as the staert of the year?

Media predicitions was relegation. Nothing else about it!

Just woke up and going to start playing again, will keep you all updated.

Cracking result against Luton mate, I got battered by them. My results are fairly similar to yours. Think I drew with Grays, obviously lost to Luton, drew with Histon and lost at home to Tamworth, them scoring two last minute goals, but other than that my results are the same as yours. But it was after the Tamworth match that I got in Ojamaa and things started to improve (H)

Interesting that you play Glenn Rule at RB. I did for my first couple of games but he was playing terribly so moved him upto Right Midfield and he's doing the business.

Good luck, a brilliant challenge and I will definitely be following.

With a flood of injuries we're now sitting 23rd with 3 points.

The results have been good and bad since I last updated you, so heres the latest;

Chester v Eastborogh - Away - 1-0 Win

Chester v Stevenage - Home - 1-1 draw - A point is a point, though we deserved the win.

Salisbury - Away - 1-1 draw - Would have loved to win this game, but a draw I'll settle with.

Chester v Wrexam - Away - 2-0 Loss - Didn't expect a win here, injuries hit us and 3 first team players were out for this game. I tried mind games against their dangerman, and he set the record straight by scoring 2 stunners. Would have loved a draw.

Chester v Forest Green - Home - 3-1 Win - Amazing football from the lads, Ojamaar injured for 4-5 weeks has hit hard but we stay strong and get an amazing result for the fans.

Chester v Hayes and Yeading - Away - 3-1 Win - Went a goal down within the first 5 minutes of the game and was expecting to get run over. Half time team talk did the business, I told Chadwick to get out there and prove a point - he did, and scored 2 goals and an assist to get us 3 points away from home, fantastic result.

Chester v Rushden - Home - 3-2 Loss - We deserved a draw here, going 3-0 down with 35 minutes to go we began to claw a goal back, and then another. 5 minutes to go and we score again to make it 3-3. I'm ecstatic - until it was disallowed for Offside. Another bad decision goes against us, and as a result I get a 1 match touchline ban. Not happy.

Chester v Gateshead - Away - 2-0 Loss - Another loss, and its starting to draw on me this could be harder than I first though. I was at the mercy of my Assistant Manager, and he was useless.

Chester v Droysden - Away - FA Cup 4th rnd Qlf. - 0-0 Draw - Happy to take a draw and take it back to my ground. But not happy that this means the players won't have much of a break as we'll have AFC Wimbledon after the replay.

Chester v Droysden - Home - FA Cup 4th rnd Qlf - 3-1 Win - Happy with the result, but I wouldn't have mind losing, so I can focus my attention on keeping us up. Players did well, I hope they can take the same frame of mind into AFC Wimbledon game at home in 3 days.

Chester v AFC Wimbledon - Home - 4-1 Loss - Staggering defeat. Players just couldn't keep up with the tight fixture list and we end up getting walked over. Hopes are still high though, and as we go into November the League Table looks like this:
