Not true. The Dutch of the 70's didn't win anything, and we'll remember them much more than the '06 Italy team. There have been plenty of successful teams in history, the reason Barca will go down in history is because they're great to watch.

Speak for yourself. Italians will be remembered for the world cup which no one gave them any chance.. It was excellent team work. Defense wins you trophies and i dont think there is any rule on how to play. Every successful teams tries to build from back..

Also, it was fairly even in the first half, but you're biased if you don't think Barca was much better after that. It looked like it was only a matter of time before they would win (and the Spanish commentators I was listening to said the same thing). Then Real Madrid gets one on the counter in extra time and it's over.

Biased? Dont tell me about Spanish commentators. They are wankers. Always ready to suck Barca players ****. First half it was all Madrid. Even Pep said that.

He has the most talented team in the world full of great attacking players. He could have approached the game very differently. I never said they were the best team in history, I said they were an historic team because they set a record for points. I don't see how that's so controversial.

Attacking team doesn't mean they have to play to Barca's strengths. How Madrid played was effective and jose wont give **** about about anyone say about that..

Jose won a trophy with good defense and tactics and by parking the bus. Real Madrid used to fire coaches for that.

So they learnt lessons that they are going nowhere with that. They have regretted the decisions to sack Capello and Del Bosque. Anyone with ounce of sense wont sack for winning and hence Jose wont be. If Madrid wants to live in Barca's shadow by playing to their hands they can sack Jose..

But your post said that only champions are remembered. The Dutch were never champions and they still are remembered over 30 years later. That's because they played entertaining football. People have already forgotten about the 06 Italy team, and almost every neutral I spoke to was disappointed to see them win it. I bet you in 30 years they will be hardly remembered, not as much as the Dutch.

And you're never biased...anyway, how often do you listen to Spanish commentators? Because these guys were jumping up and down for joy when Real Madrid scored and they had thick Madrid accents. First half it wasn't all Madrid. They had better chances, and I'd say they were the slightly better team, but no way you can say it was "all Madrid." Anyway, other than their chances they were terrible they couldn't string together more than two passes and they couldn't get the ball out of their own end. After the first half RM was completely inferior to Barca, they held on thanks to great Casillas keeping and they got a good chance on the counter and scored.

I agree 100%. Real Madrid could have gone out attacking without playing to Barca's strengths. They didn't. What they did was effective, but in the words of Valdano, it was "**** on a stick" and it was the most defensive I have ever seen Real Madrid play. So I was disappointed to see them win.

They didn't learn their lessons and that's why they sacked Pellegrini. But they're obviously sticking with Mourinho because they spent so much on him and his reputation is too good. They would be considered fools for sacking him even if he went two seasons without winning a trophy. And of course who would succeed him, there aren't a lot of high profile managers on the market right now.

Whom ever i talked to have forgotten Dutch team. So? Do you really need to what your mates tell to berate Italian team? I dont think anyone would forget Italian team and how they won the cup. It was epic..

Barca didn't have shot on target in the first half. How can it be even? Barca were **** in the first half and Madrid were easily better. PEP ALSO SAID THE SAME. HE SAID MADRID WERE BETTER TEAM IN THE FIRST HALF.

Couldn't care less. I'm sure he was jumping up and down with joy when they won the cup. Valdano dont epitomize Madrid. He is not the one who defies how teams should play. Check Jose's interview. He is the coach and his team plays how he wants. Not like some random jack wants.

Pellegrini didn't win anything so was sacked. Simples. And again they lost in the round of 16. Embarrassing..

Sorry but that Dutch team is still reminisced about today even though they won the trophy. I wouldn't call Italy's trophy win "epic," they beat Australia in the round of 16 by a bullshit penalty. Then they beat Ukraine, a very easy quarterfinal opponent. Ukraine had 58% possession and more chances, but they defended poorly. They beat Germany in extra time and they drew France to win in a penalty shootout. Contrast that to France, who beat Spain, Brazil, and Portugal. No one wanted that Italian team to win, and they won't be talked about in years. Especially considering how much they sucked at the next two tournaments. That Dutch team was legendary though, which goes to show that it's not just trophies that puts you in the history book.

I AGREED WITH YOU. Real Madrid was slightly better in the first half, even though they couldn't move the ball at all, because they had good chances. But after the first 30 or so minutes Barca was by far the better team. They were the better team that game but couldn't get the result.

Couldn't care less. I'm sure he was jumping up and down with joy when they won the cup. Valdano dont epitomize Madrid. He is not the one who defies how teams should play. Check Jose's interview. He is the coach and his team plays how he wants. Not like some random jack wants.

Than why'd you reply? Also, Valdano played for and coached Real Madrid and currently hold an important position there, so he is important. He's Mourinho's boss. Of course Mourinho coaches the team, it's not like I'm disputing that. I'm just pointing out the obvious, that he puts out a terrible product on the field, which is not what the Galacticos aspire to.

Pellegrini didn't win anything so was sacked. Simples. And again they lost in the round of 16. Embarrassing..

So it's bad when Real Madrid sack other managers but OK when they sack Pellegrini? It was the first year of the Galacticos and they had lots of injury problems. Despite this, he set the Real Madrid record for points in La Liga. They were outstanding. You're in a small minority if you think Pellegrini should have been fired.

About Dutch team was tongue in cheek comment. Whatever your criteria maybe Italian team will remembered. Not only for the grit and determination they showed in the whole tournament but also all the off field activities that was happening at that time. Probably darkest hours for Serie A after Torino's team death..

Funny how you brought up game against Australia, but never touched many controversial decisions Spain got in this WC. Inshort your arguments are flawed, Biased and half informed..

A team that can't get shot on target cannot be better team than the team that got few.

How do you know what Galacticos aspire to? Jose was chosen for the fact he guarantees silverware. Valdano, Perez knew this but they opted for it as Barca were becoming unstoppable and the manager to do it was Jose..

Twisting my words. Never did i say Pellegrini deserved to be sacked. I just stated the fact why he was sacked. You can ask Madrid supporters, they are happy now. They have excellent balance in the team than last season. Record points in La Liga counts for nothing. He didn't get pass the round of 16 in champions league. How poor his team was.

Jose's team didn't even break sweat to get to Semi finals. Thats how dominant Jose is.

Just watched first half again. Barca were **** poor in the first half. Madrid would have easily scored 2-3 goals. Only shot Barca had was desperate long range shoot from Xavi. Funny that someone is saying that Madrid were good only for 30 mins, when after 30 mins they created 2 good chances and Pepe hit the post.

Barca will be historic team and will be known for the whinging and how they surround the ref for every small decisions.. Pathetic..

I don't know how you're still arguing this point. The Dutch team of the 70s will be remembered far more than the Italian '06 team. Finishing runner-up in consecutive World Cups and playing the legendary style of total football pioneered in Ajax at the start of that decade means that the team of that era will be remembered for a long time. To say that only Champions will be remembered is ridiculous, there's more chance of the team containing Cruyff and managed by Michels being remembered that the Italian team that scraped its way to a World Cup win.

With regards to your second point, what does Spain have to do with anything? He was talking about Italy's run to the 2006 World Cup final. It's a different World Cup, and he wasn't mentioning anything about Spain as a national team. So because he doesn't include information that is irrelevant and that you have just seemingly randomly decided that it "needs" to be included, his entire argument is biased and flawed?

When i said Tongue in cheek comment doesn't that mean it was not serious comment.

I brought up Spain for a reason as the same way he brought up Italian team. Both had decisions going their way. Simple as that. he was high on how well Spain plays, so to say even Spain won by luck..

It is funny how few said Casillas saved Madrid ***, when all he did was 1 excellent save when he saved the chip with his finger tips. Other than that he made one save which any GK would have saved.

On the other hand Pinto saved few, but was not at all mentioned.

Madrid first half >> Barca Second half.

Even in Extra time, i didn't see Barca creating any chance whereas Madrid created 3-4 very good chances..

Yes, a tongue-in-cheek comment is not serious. It is not always obvious over the internet though so I assumed it wasn't, but oh well. However, you did sound serious when you said that only the Champions are remembered. The Dutch team is a counter example to that, which disproves your point.

I do agree with some of your opinions on Barcelona though. Technically, their style of football is superb, but I'm not really a fan. I much prefer counter-attacks at pace, and more direct football to most of the possession football and short passing they play, no matter how good it is. I think Real Madrid have a chance in the semi-finals. With Barca's pressing game when they don't have the ball they tire a lot, and it was evident in extra time of the Copa Del Rey. If Real Madrid keep it tight for the first 70 minutes then I can see them scoring as the game progresses. However keeping Barcelona out is one of the most difficult tasks in football...

Well, maybe i was wrong in saying Only champions will be remembered. Should have said Champions will be remembered no matter what..

Dutch team was an exception though. They are remembered for introducing the concept of total football. It was something that changed the face of the game..
