Ronaldo shows although he was absolutely useless throughout that he is a truly gifted player....where the haters now? Would of loved to see messi hit that one in HAHAHA

P.S did anyone see messi charging to Villa's rescue then bouncing off Ramos like a fly? HAHA still has the nerve to slightly lift his hand in a fighting gesture...not so inocent is he? played averagely got angry with own team mates and I thought you said this guy was superior to Ron? when Messi speed goes he will head back to Boca at the age of 30 as a mediocre has been Ronaldo atleast got the presence to be Drogba esque well into his 30's

oh and the master man the special one showed his class

Hala Madrid

In fairness, I think Messi is miles superior to Ronaldo.
Ronaldo goes missing aganst the big teams, Messi rarely does.
They both went missing in this game, but Ronaldo come up trumps.

Although I agree, Mourinho was tactically spot on.. This time.

can't believe how many Barca haters there are on this thread. lol.

I hope Mourinho doesn't play this defensively in the champions league, otherwise the two legs will be a bore.

Barca have the league (practically) Madrid the Copa Del Rey. Champions League is the one they both want.

What you have just typed there is absolutely tragic.

Stinks of bitterness.

Yep, was really funny. Tell you what though, Messi must be made of something ******* solid, the amount of times he was clattered today was unreal.

I particularly liked him trying to dribble through 3 Real defenders. Almost did it if not for being taken out by all 3, mind.

Just watched the match, I'm disappointed. It was even after the first half but after that Barca was much better. Real just sat there and defended and took their few chances. Casillas saved them, and it's too bad Victor Valdes wasn't in. The defense clearly lacked leadership without Puyol and Valdes.

But it's not that R. Madrid won that ****** me off. If they went out and surprised everyone, playing offensive football and winning 5-0, I would have been thrilled for them. Instead they won with good defense and tactics. Which is totally antithetical to the mission of the Galacticos. I really hope the ex-Galacticos call out this team for putting such a dreadfully boring product on the field. Defending with 10 men in front of the ball and ceding 70-80% possession is not what Real Madrid is supposed to be about. That's not why Perez and Valdano were brought back to the club. But they got impatient with the trophies and sold out on their principles. Which is why I rooted for them last year and am rooting against them this year. If RM advances to the CL final I'm going to have no idea who to root for. On the one hand, I'd want a Spanish team to win it (like Spanish football, and of course to quite the La Liga haters), but this team doesn't play like they should and even if they do win people will continue with the La Liga=SPL comments since Real Madrid is Rangers apparently. I might just not watch the game.

I am actually laughing, reading what curtis said. It's so hilariously funny. "OH NOES THEY ACTUALLY USED A TACTIC THAT ALLOWED THEM TO WIN RATHER THAN FAIL MISERABLY THOSE BASTARDS I HATE THEM". You call it boring, and let me tell you that is rubbish. The game was fairly entertaining, actually, if a little bitty at times.

More amusing is your references to Real Madrid's apparent god-given right to play 'good' football. I've said it to you so many times before; Madrid can only beat Barca by playing to their strengths on the counterattack and not letting Barca play to theirs. There isn't a coach in the world, from Capello to Bielsa, who would take an ambitious but rubbish attempt at outplaying the best footballing team on the planet over a win.

You're a romanticist, I get that. You think football should be played to be beautiful all the time, and there's much to admire about it. But it is no way at all realistic.

P.S: Valdano and Perez are knobheads.

Why Barcelona lost:
1) Puyol
2) Tired Strike force

Puyol is possible the most crucial player in Barcelona, since he gives hes most in every match. He keeps all players concentrate by talking to them or just checking up on them. This role last night was taken by Masherano, I can say Masherano was very good last night, but there was a lack of concentration of the team that lead to mistakes where Puyol would make sure they are concentrated specially Pique. Though Masherano did a great job, the main concern was not really defense, but its a tired strike force. The same strikes play day in and out, in which they are suffering a lack of finishing and being able to compete. Even Messi was tired due to no rest, in which Barcelona should play with one more midfilder like Affelay or Thiago, in which would rest a striker, and since the next match is against Osasuna start another striker leaving one of the originals and sub him out here and there. In which they will all be relaxed and calm against Real Madrid in the Champions League

I just loved to watch Mou destroy and frustrate Barca "tiki-taka". So physical and he completely destroyed their tactic.

This gave me hope for the Semis. Pepe is class destroyer. And the fact that Barca doesn't have any tall players expect Puyol and Pique.

Thats why i call Barca the "dwarf team" XD

Mourinho is trying to expose that. Even the short Villa who always tries to play hard man got owned by Arbeloa and Ramos and they liften him from the ground like a baby. And Villa got of course embarassed because it's nothing that happens to "hardmen" liek him.. and tried to hide it by getting angry. Messi tried to help him but backed off when he realized that he is too short to even consider fighting with a real madrid player.

Adriano was no match with Ronaldo in the air and it was a beutiful header. And Adriano will miss both semis with injury...more injury worries for barcelona.

But like GodCubed said...you can't dominate a game against barcelona and outclass the best team in the world. You have to destroy their game. And counter. And Mourinho is the man for it!

puyol = 1.76 m
So, there's 3 players in first 11 over 1.80
Valdez, Pique and Busquets.

Oh yeah...forgot Busquets. And i guess Puyols hair makes him look taller :D

Well anyways...only 2 field players over 1.80..they would get killed against teams like Stoke. Shocking...

Madrid were easily better in the first half, Barca had first shot on target after 70 mins. Thats how well Madrid played. People can write whatever they want, at the end of the day trophies is what matters most. You can play sexy football and end up winning nothing, then no one remembers the team. Only champions are remembered and Jose will be remembered forever..

What Jose did was unacceptable.. How can he not let The Best team in the history not win the title. How dare he. He should bend over to Barca. He should play to their strengths, he should play to Barca's strengths..

As a figure in football, I like Valdano more than Mourinho, even though he doesn't have enough patience with football.

Real Madrid's strength is their incredible amount of talent. They could win by playing offensively if they wanted to, and if they hired Marcelo Bielsa, or if they held on to Pellegrini for another year, that's what would have happened.

The game was exciting due to its intensity but I thought Real Madrid was a boring team to watch.

Tiki-taka refers to how the Spanish national team plays, so I don't think a true Spaniard would celebrate beating that style with good defensive football. Are you from Spain?

Barca wasn't outclassed, it was a good game. You can beat them by defending and countering, as we saw Inter do, but we all wanted to see Madrid come out swinging, and had they won doing that it would have been great.

Not true. The Dutch of the 70's didn't win anything, and we'll remember them much more than the '06 Italy team. There have been plenty of successful teams in history, the reason Barca will go down in history is because they're great to watch.

Also, it was fairly even in the first half, but you're biased if you don't think Barca was much better after that. It looked like it was only a matter of time before they would win (and the Spanish commentators I was listening to said the same thing). Then Real Madrid gets one on the counter in extra time and it's over.

He has the most talented team in the world full of great attacking players. He could have approached the game very differently. I never said they were the best team in history, I said they were an historic team because they set a record for points. I don't see how that's so controversial.

Jose won a trophy with good defense and tactics and by parking the bus. Real Madrid used to fire coaches for that.

Real fire coaches because Real are idiots, they drove out one of their most successful managers in recent times becuase he preferred teamwork over galacticos, he's now turned spain into the number side in the world

Del Bosque was fired because he won the league and not the Champions League. Capello was fired because they played a boring brand of football (to be fair to him though, this was after Zidane and Figo left, and Ronaldo wasn't fit). I think they were stupid and impatient for firing Del Bosque. I am just pointing out though that had Mourinho been in charge during that era, he would have been fired just like Del Bosque and Capello. Luxemburgo was fired for losing to Barca 3-0 (not 5-0), Del Bosque was fired for not winning trophies (they didn't do as well as they wanted to in La Liga this year, and if they don't win the Champions League, this season will have been a disappointment), and Capello was fired for being too defensive (and definitely not as defensive as RM has been the last two games). Love them or hate them, Real Madrid have a way of doing things, but they are changing, and now all they are focused on is trophies. Even if Mourinho won no trophies (along with boring football), they wouldn't have fired him this season. Too bad they weren't that lax with Pellegrini.

pellegrini was fired becuase he didnt "fit in" he was doomed before he started, he could have won la liga and still be fired

Right, now from a neutral point of view:

Barca might be the best team there is right now, but tactically everyone knows how they'll play. They NEVER change tactics. Mourinho is known for his tactical ability, so he must've watched hundreds of hours of Barcelona footage. Together with the experience he had with his RM team against Barca he exploited their one weak point: strength. On average the RM players are about a foot taller (maybe a bit less) than the Barca players. And although they aren't as technical, with the exception of Ozil, they are far stronger. They just outmuscled Barca fair and square. Also, I don't think any other team can do that, since Barca is just too fast.

You can say about Mourinho what you want. Yes he's full of himself and yes he's got a bigger ego than C.Ronaldo. Fact of the matter is, he knows now how to beat Barca. And he'll do it again if Barca don't spring up a tactical surprise.
