I've always had great success defensively we have tight marking, get stuck in, play offside trap and hassle oppenents. Make sure your defenders are very good at marking and anticipation. Also have your supporting midfielders set to mark tighter and close down often. after you gain a lead, switch approach to drop deeper, turn off offside trap. Lower the tempo and retain possession. if you start giving away fouls turn off the get stuck in option.
