Hi, this is my first attempt at a guide... so please forgive me if it does not look pretty or anything... This guide is how I recommend you play to earn promotion... then its up to you.

Following what I did, I earned promotion after 3 seasons ( I know it sounds like a long time) but I didn't think about what I was doing until then.. well intro over.. here goes

the club: introduction -

Coventry-City.png

(from wikipedia)
Coventry City Football Club, otherwise known as the Sky Blues owing to the traditional colour of their strip, are an association football club based in Coventry, central England. Coventry City were founding members of the Premier League in 1992.
They currently play in the Football League Championship, the second-highest tier of the English league system, having spent 34 consecutive seasons in the top flight First Division / Premier League between 1967 and 2001. Their only major trophy was won in 1987 when they beat Tottenham Hotspur 3–2 to win the FA Cup, a game often cited as possibly the greatest FA Cup Final of all time.[2] They also reached two League Cup semi-finals in 1981 and 1990.
From 1899 to 2005, Coventry City played at the Highfield Road stadium. During the early-1980s it became the first all-seater stadium in English football, but by the end of the following decade the club's directors decided it was time to construct a larger stadium and chose a site in the Rowley's Green area of the city. The 32,609 capacity Ricoh Arena was opened in August 2005.

the stadium:
(from wikipedia)
The Ricoh Arena, home to Coventry City F.C., is a stadium complex situated in the Rowleys Green district of the city of Coventry, England containing a 32,609 seater football stadium, a 6,000 square-metre exhibition hall, a hotel, a leisure club and a casino. The site is also home to Arena Park Shopping Centre containing one of the UK's largest Tesco Extra hypermarkets. The site was previously home to the Foleshill gasworks. It is named after its sponsor, Japanese company Ricoh who paid £10million deal for that privilege over ten years.[3] For the 2012 Summer Olympic Games, where stadium naming sponsorship is forbidden, the stadium will be known as the City of Coventry Stadium.[4][5]
The arena was opened officially by Dame Kelly Holmes and Sports Minister Richard Caborn on 24 February 2007. This was after the arena had been open for a year which included hosting a sell out England under 21 football match against Germany and a full season of Coventry City Football.

Finances:
As I am sure you are all aware.. Coventry are a team that operate on loses, meaning that you only have limited fund for players (UTALIZE the interact with board option for players, see screenshot below)

here is the screen shots for the first day of taking charge of the club

Objectives

as you can see, the club is not a healthy club financially, meaning you need to sell players to get money(which the board will take most of anyway)

the squad:

GK:
Keiran Westwood
Danny Irelend

Well you clearly need new keepers (seen as Ireland will not stand a chance against Championship keepers) and Westy wants to leave. Westwood is good to keep for the first season, but after that... (if he doesn't sign a new contract then forget him)

recommended targets:
alex smithies – Huddersfield (either interact with board – or £500k - £700k
Luke Steele (Barnsley (£400k - £500k)

DEF:
Richard keogh
Martin Cranie
Ben Turner
James McPake
Richard Wood

You will need to bolster the back line up, and sell Wood – he is worthless to us in this team, Turner can cover the hole that you get through selling him.
recommended back 4 (to begin with)
LB: Cranie
LCB: McPake
RCB: Turner
RB: Keogh

recommended signings
Michael ball (free transfer)
Mohamed Barakat (Al-Ahly £500k – interact with board)

these will provide cover for the wing backs, allowing Cranie to play in centre if you do not like Turner, And Barakat I personally did not sign, but I was recommended him by Harrison (So I took a look and he looks decent enough)

MID:
Lee Carsley
Gary McSheffrey
Michael Mcindoe
Michael Doyle
David Bell
Carl Baker
Aron Gunnarson
Gary Deegan
Danny Ward
Sammy Clingan

We can cut back here, sell Baker, Bell, And Mcindoe (if not needed also sell Deegan) these should easily fill your pockets with £1mill - £1.5mill, with that you can then improve the midfield.
Recommended Line up:
RM: Gunnarson
LCM: Carsley
RCM: Clingan
LM: Danny ward

this will provide with battlers (Gunnarson and Carsley) and finesse in Ward and Clingan, also have Clingan as a set piece taker (as he can cross a nice corner in and set up from free kicks)

recommended Targets:
Ahmed Fathi (Al-Ahly, £825k (or interact with board)
Richard Hughes (Portsmouth - £500k) great cover for Carsley, if not use him instead of Carsley and have Carsley as first choice.

ST:
Freddy Eastwood
Lukas Jutkiewicz
Marlon King
Clive Platt

With the forwards, we do not have a prolific goal scorer, so unfortunately we are going to be struggling with the goals... although we have King, he is useless so there is no point playing him unless struggling for cover

recommended line up:
ST: Eastwood
ST: Jutkiewicz

This is the only logical line up, as Platt cannot score to save his life, and King is poor up front, I would recommend playing Eastwood as a target man and Jutkiewicz as either a poacher or deep lying forward.

Recommended targets:
Fredirico Macheda (Man Utd Loan)
sylvain wiltord (free transfer, normally blitzes the league)

Unfortunately we cannot sell or release Platt or King as they have only just joined.

training: I personally use Dunc's Medium training work load (sorry I cant help here)

Staff recomendations:
Andrew Cole coach (free transfer)
simon hunt scout (free transfer)

Warning: Coventry are not an easy team to play as, they struggle and wont produce much in the first season (trust me on this)... this will get you going, but it wont provide miricles.

Thankyou for reading! (feedback is always nice, especially on how I can improve (but take it easy, this is my first attempt))

I really don't think a Coventry guide is in demand, but a good guide anyhow, but you should probably only make them for teams that are common.

thanks for the comment :)

A pretty good guide, just not set out the best.

decent enough guide, although u can still look into making it more in-depth but a good read nevertheless

Any ideas on how i can improve? i saw some other guides and it like reading a wall of writing so i tried to go in the oposite direction

Alcaraz - i didnt want a block of writing, so i tried to keep it short and sweet while getting the basics down... thanks for the advice though :)

Not a bad guide - but could do with some more information on tactics (try downloading some and using them, and building a team that can be used with that tactic for example) but other than it covers the basics which a guide is supposed to do.

I for one think you did a really good job. Simple and straightforward.

Although this would be quite enough for someone who likes to experiment and wants to basically only know where to start.
But like folks here suggested, some tactics explanation, and possibly a few more transfer market tips would make a large difference, making this even better.

im thinking about doing a v.2 of it... this was my first ever attempt at a guide, and seen as the feedback is generally positive i might make a better, more detailed one and replace the one above :)

thanks for the comment

I like the bits where you tell us who to play and where

thanks :)

i know coventry are not a "fashionable (cant spell) team"... but its up now so if people want a hard game then there it is :D lol

---------- Post added at 07:57 PM ---------- Previous post was yesterday at 10:32 PM ----------
