Duncan adamint Coventry aren't out of their depth in the Champions League
Coventry City FC manager Kris Duncan today hit out at rumors that the Sky Blues are out of their depth in the UEFA Champions League. 'No we aren't, we qualified fairly by beating all but 3 teams in the English Premier League, anyone who thinks we don't deserve this deserves a slap'. 'We don't expect to compete and win the thing, but it will be a great experience for our whole team and will aid in their development.' Coventry qualified for the Best Played Playoff by finishing behind Chelsea, Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur in the 2011/2012 English Premier League season. The club has had a meteroic rise since Kris Duncan took over from Chris Coleman in July 2009, winning the then Coca-Cola Championship to earn promotion to the EPL where they finished 10th in the return to the top flight before ending up 4th last season.

Just days before the new season Coventry City have added a quarter of players to their ranks, presumably to strengthen the squad for their Champions League experience. 24 year-old Swedish international Martin Olsson was the first to sign for the club for a fee of £2.5 million from Manchester United after earning just 8 league starts in one and a half seasons at Old Trafford before joining Wolves on loan for the second half of last season. Olsson was said to be relieved to be at a club where he will get regular first team football at the highest level. The second to join was loanee Mathias Jorgensen for a loan fee of £2.3 million with an option to buy for an additional £2.5 million. After the deal was confirmed City striker hit out at manager Roberto Mancini for allowing a player, who made over 30 first team apperances in his debut season at the club, out on loan again. Jorgensen had actually rejected Coventry when he signed for City. The third man to sign was Brazillian defender Sidnei on a fee of £4.6 from Portugese club Benfica, Coventry manager Kris Duncan was very happy to get a defender of Sidnei's quality to play alongside Jan Simunek, 'It's a brilliant capture for us, to have two defenders of that quality at the back will give the whole team a boost.' The final player to join the club was Croatian internation midfielder Milan Badelj for a fee of £11 million from Rapid Wien, Badelj has been a target of Duncan's for some time and the Blues manager was happy to finally have his man, 'I feel Milan will just complete the puzzle in the middle of the park for us, we may of had to wait a few years for him but I'm very glad he has joined us'. The new signings will have a chance to strut their stuff for Coventry in the season opener against Sunderland at the Ricoh Arena in a week.

Gary Medel

The Chilean who tends to prefer the defensive side of the game, continued to show that he can play an attacking game as well as he is continued to be utilised in a central midfielder role. Medel has not only provided goals for his teammates but also scored the winner against Wolves.
