I was Just thinking about cover songs in general, and how many are better than the original, but people sometimes dismiss some covers as a better sounding version of the song based on the fact its a cover.
I can think of a few cover songs that are certainly better than the orignal.

Gary Jewels - Madworld better than Tears for Fears Version

Death - Painkiller better than Judas Priest Version

Metallica Turn the Page better than Bob Segers Version

Triviums Master Of Puppets better than Metallicas version

Limp Bizkit Behind Blue Eyes Better than The Who's Version

Big Mountains Baby I love your way better than Peter Fraptons Version

Scary kids Scaring kids version of losing my religion better than Rems
version.

The list goes on and on, can anyone think of anymore great cover songs ?

im not sure about all the covers but when eer your on youtube search for hottlikefire03 he does a fantastic job of making covers of up to date songs.

Another good thread mate.

I like the idea of covers. Some can be better but then if it's your all time fav song you may not welcome it.

I like Metallica's Whiskey in the Jar better than Thin Lizzy's
like you said Fredd Durst and Behind blue eyes owns the Who

My Fav band Sonata Arctica have had a few over the years

Out in the fields-Gary Moore
i want out-Helloween
die with your boots on-Iron Maiden
still loving you-Scorpains
Fade to Black-Metallica
the wind beneath my wings-some bird lol but im sure you all know it
World in my eyes-depeshe mode
two minds, one soul-Vasnishing Point

Prefer Rise Against's version of "Anyway You Want It" by Journey

Prefer The Unseen's version of "Paint It Black" by Rolling Stones

Dead Kennedys' version of Viva Las Vegas FTW.

this cover owns Abbas original [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XseLGzmqa7c"]YouTube- Lay all your love on me - Helloween[/ame]

Metallica's version of Turn the Page is . They played it when I saw them in Feb and the hairs on the back of my neck stood up, even though I was sweating like a *****. It was epic and so unbelievable, I was almost hysterical when the first few chords were played.

Their Whiskey in the Jar is pretty sweet too, although they've got a whole album of covers (Garage.Inc) which is swish :D. Dream Theater have covered a few Tallica songs and their version of Orion is v good.

Also agree about Limp Bizkit (pretty much durst by himself) doing Behind Blue Eyes

I like that version of Paint it Black Ad, the screaming isn't that bad. I once had a punk covers album of Metallica, I duno if you'd like it or hate it :p

Honourable mentions go to Fallout Boy's Beat It and Leona Lewis's version of Run :D

Trivium do a good version of Master Of puppets, Really good, and Bullet do a surprisingly good job of creeping death

SHAME ON YOU

Point/Counterpoint I agree with you about Rise Against Cover, there lead singer has an awesome voice. Have heard there latest album its good, not metal its punk I think buts a good album

lol sorry Kris :p. FOB's Beat It aint as good as the original but I liked it!

I've heard Trivium's For Whom the Bell Tolls, will check out MOP. Will look for Bullets' Creeping Death too.

People heard of Apocalyptica? They do some swish metal covers, with lots of Tallica again. Their version of 'One', solo included, is awesome and you should check it out.

fixed. was wondering what cove was :p

whole site has been dodgy as.

Tim has a great voice and is quite diverse, but the new album is definitley their worst. It's too over-produced and samey. However, that doesn't mean it's not bad musically, it sounds more like hard rock than hardcore punk nowadays. Got to admit though, they have written some great melodies on it. Best album is by far either The Unraveling or Revolutions Per Minute.

will delve into there older stuff soon, it seems like the latest album is more mainstream than older tracks I've listened to
