From Rags To Riches

So for my first ever story on FM Base, I decided to take on a very difficult challenge of taking the rags of newly promoted Curzon Ashton to the riches of the world heavyweights. I have been an avid fan of FM for a number of years now but never had the time to do one, so any tips would be very much appreciated (such as I wanted the banner to be bigger, but couldn't figure out how to do it). Anyway, heres a quick overview of how this story will work:

1) I will try to make it as realistic as possible, like news articles etc.
2) There will be an update on every event or game that happens in game
3) If this dosent gain as much popularity, I may have to stop because these things take a lot of time and effort
4) I wont be cheating or using the in game editor (obviously)
5) PLEASE feel free to give me any tips or feedback

So stay tuned and COME ON YOU NASHERS!!!

THE CLUB

Curzon Ashton F.C.are a football club based in Ashton-under-Lyme. They play in the National League North and are members of the Manchester County Football Association. Nicknamed "The Nash", the club play their home games at the Tameside Stadium in Ashton-under-Lyme Curzon won the 2013–14 NPL Division One North and won the playoffs in the 2014–15 Northern Premier League Premier Division.
Curzon Ashton was formed in 1963 after the merger of two clubs, Curzon Road Methodists F.C. and Ashton Amateurs F.C., who played in the Manchester Amateur Football League. The amalgamated club's name was originally Curzon Amateurs before being changed to the current name.
Curzonjoined the Manchester League and once they had found their feet in the higher competition, there was no stopping The Nash, taking a string of honours in the early 1970s. In 1970–71 they were Manchester Intermediate Cup runner-up and they followed that with a hat trick of wins in the competition. In 1973–74 they were runners-up in Division One of the Manchester League and then runners-up in the premier division, a feat they matched the following season. The reserve team then won four championships in a row and in 1977–78 won the league and cup double.
Season 1978–79 saw Curzon become founder members of the Cheshire League Division Two and they won promotion at the first attempt, missing the title by just two points. The first season inthe top flight was celebrated with the club's finest moment when they became the first North West club to reach the semi-final of the FA Vase. They lost both legs 2–0 to Stamford, the home leg producing the club's record home attendance of 1800, and a record that still stands.
In the 1980s the Manchester Premier Cup was won five times. In 1983–84 Curzon became founder members of the North West Counties League when the MWCL Cheshire League and Lancashire Combination merged as part of the non-league pyramid. The club was placed in the first division and floodlights were purchased in 1986 as Curzon prepared for an assault on the title and possible promotion to the Northern Premier League. Promotion was not attained and manager Peter Mayo resigned due to work commitments during the 1986 season. His successor Les Sutton failed to win a single league game; although the club won the Manchester Premier Cup. He was sacked at the end of the season.
Despite finishing in a relegation position, Curzon became founder members of theNorthern Premier League First Division the following year. A disastrous startresulted in the manager David Noble being sacked and Steve Waywell became the club's fourth manager in less than twelve months when he was appointed in October, 1987. Relegation was only avoided when the division was expanded from 19 to 22 clubs.
Waywell was relieved of his duties in February, 1993, and after Alan Zelem briefly held the reins, Winsford United assistant manager David "Taffy" Jones was appointed following which Curzon recorded their best ever win against local rivals Ashton United, beating them 7–0 on Easter Monday.

THE STADIUM

Curzon Ashton have played at the Tameside Stadium in Ashton-under-Lyne since 2005, which has a capacity of 4,000 (524 seats). It meets the standards for the National League.
The stadium was officially opened by Sir Alex Ferguson. For the first game at the new ground, Curzon played a Manchester United XI, which included Fraizer Campbell and Jonny Evans. Outside the stadium, a statue stands commemorating three locally born footballers associated with the World Cup; Geoff Hurst (born in Ashton), Jimmy Armfield(Denton), and Simone Perrotta (also born in Ashton).

New Director Unveiled At Curzon Press Conference

Newly promoted, Curzon Ashton, have surprisingly unveiled local businessman, John Charles, as there new director, which looks to be the first of a series of changes for the new look club, as they venture into the National League North for the first time in there history.

Curzon Ashton fans have known that a special announcement was set to be made but may have been suprised that the "Nash Supporters Group" have decided to pass the club on to a businessman, starting out in the football world.
Lea Logan, chairman of the supporters trust, released a statement earlier reading:
"Regarding the recent decision to sell on the club to a permanent business man, we as supporters believe this is the correct decision due to our recent footballing position. For the many years we have been running the club, we have all endured the ups and downs of the lower levels of the English football pyramid, however as we enter the 6th tier of English football for the first time in history we believe we need more structure, stability and experience financially, commercially etc. We don't want to just be known as part-timers in this league, we want to this club to create a new legacy which will live long in the memory of the current generation and hopefully make an impact on the English game. When we took over the club, our target was to get us into the National League and with this target being met, we believe our powers have took us as far as what we can realistically go. We have took months and months choosing the correct director to take us forward and have worked endless hours in working with them to figure out whats best for the club. Even though, we don't have complete control of the club WE WILL be still a major part of building this club. The new board will be unveiled in a press conference later today. If there's any concerns please email us or visit the club at any time."

Curzon were recently promoted to the National League North

Supporters have welcomed the idea of the change and have also been very much involved in the decision. However, they haven't been aware of the new board until today's press conference.

Local business-man, John Charles, was unveiled as the new director and is set to have an open meeting with supporters this week but was asked to give a short summary about him and his plans about the club:
"I have lived in Ashton all my life and my ultimate dream is to be involved in a football club. I care, I am passionate and I will do all I can in my strength to get this club up the football ladder. I may not be a Curzon supporter, but I bet many people who turn up to our games on a Saturday are really City or United supporters. The dream? To make Curzon the club of preference around Manchester. And I hope to make it happen in the most special way possible. Come on the Nash!"

MY FIRST IMPRESSIONS

My First Impressions

So after meetings with the board and my assistant, I took my first session and had a think at how things are going to work and I'm quite excited at the prospects. There's good youth facilities and some good players coming through it for starters. I plan to tie these under some contract in the near future, as many clubs are sniffing around. I also plan to make some new additions to the squad and coaching team before the league starts.

I chose my tactics based on the league and the players. I have used both these tactics before and they seem to work well in lower leagues. I hope to be able to control the league with a balance of control and pace. Both these tactics will help that but I hope to train and buy players to specialise in particular positions.

Key Players-

Warburton looks like a solid, all round reliable striker for this level and defiantly could make a good impact on the scoring charts in the league. I'm just worried about the 4-4-2 formation as at the moment, I don't really have another decent striker to go up with him, so that's something I will look into.

When Darius came to his first trial with us, I was a bit concerned that he was only here because he was the directors son. However, this is very much opposite as I am extremely impressed with him, especially at this age. He is very passionate about the club and can play almost every position. He keeps his head down and I think he can be the engine room in this league. I've heard some top clubs are sniffing around him so I'll be sure to try and get him signed up ASAP.

Liams also a young lad who I expect to make an impact in the long run. He cares alot about the club and his football, he has alot of mates at the club and I think we will get a long very well. He's got a good range of skills and think he can form a good relationship with Darius in the middle of the park. My tactic is very much based around how strong the midfield is and I think the midfielders here are some of the best in the league.
