Derby County appoint Ashton as new boss

View attachment 119370 View attachment 119374
There was surprise and excitement today as Derby County appointed former England and West Ham star Dean Ashton as their new manager- making him the youngest ever football league manager at the age of 26. He replaces Nigel Clough, who was unable to live up to his legendary fathers achievements at the club. He joins on a two year contract.

Ashton was forced to retire from playing prematurely after failing to recover from a long term ankle injury. He played a total of 248 club games, scoring 93 goals.

It is believed that former Middlesbrough defender Colin Cooper will join as his assistant. Speaking outside Pride Park, County chairman Tom Glick briefly spoke to Sky Sports journalist Chris Hughes-

The club is delighted to hire Dean. He was a great player and we are sure his enthusiasm will rub off on the players. He definitely has something to prove, and we are 100% behind him. There will be a press conference tomorrow morning to officially introduce him.
