i seen this this morning on the bbc website gotta sayy im sad whenever i think about it because only 26 he had another few years in him at least.............gutted for him
 
Sorry Jack I have to disagree. Even Arsene Wenger has said now that he considered signing him. Ashton was very intelligent off the ball and was very strong yet he could finish superbly. His premier league record for West Ham was 19 goals in 56 games, which is not bad at all because he wasn't able to get a proper run. And his total goal scoring record was 111 goals in 280 games. He was a very good player, different to a lot of other centre forwards.

He is certainly another good product of the Crewe Academy, you can never really tell if he would of made it on an international stage but I agree that if he didn't get such bad injuries, imagine how lethal the partnership of Carlton Cole and Ashton could of been by now, just seen what Wenger said on SSN, I would on never had him down as a Wenger sort of player but that man is full of surprises.
 
i thought he was decent- nothing special, but not bad. Shame he retired though
