When playing a 4-4-2 how can a DM player perform his best when hesw not actually playing him in his favoured position? oO) Also does playing a DM mean you can play 2 attacking midfielders without worrying bout their defensive duities as much?

go to his profile , first check thje postions page and check wether he can play as CM or AM(whichever position u want him to play as)
if the icon on tht position is green(light or dark) tht means he can play there.
u can train him to be the position u want by training him

As long as you have him playing as a DMC would be playing, using him in the CM position, whilst training him for MC, he will be fine, he will pick the role up very quickly.
Some DMC's fortunately are equally as good in both.
