I am having major problem with my central defenders rushing out to close down and leaving gaps i have tried all types of things but nothing stops it :(

easy, Set to ZONAL MARKING and have a LOWER CLOSING DOWN.

If you tell me it doesnt work you must be silly..

I have just done that and reduced the width slightly will let u kno what happens as conceed way to many this way

Still does not work and i have tried different strategies, philosophy, defensive line, closing down (team),tackling, creative freedom its doing my head in now would rip my hair out if i had any to rip out.

This may sound weird but put both your centre backs to "cover"

what philosophy should i use as i have them both on cental defenders and my defenders are sonko and kompany and play a 4-4-2

are they set on tight marking? it seams to be a defult seting on dc's and my explain why they do like you discribe

which players make up your full first chose back 4? do they have any ppm's? is sonko the one that starts at Pompey?

No he starts at stoke city and i have taking tight marking off and my back four are crainey, kompany, sonko, hutton and my record is 246 for 196 against.

this works for me..

1. set the back 4 to the same level of defensive mentality. 4 or 5 clicks up. (very defensive)
2. set the back 4 to zonal marking (untick tight marking)
3. have 1 CB set to central defender stopper, and the other to cover.
4. change the CB closing down to very low, in own area. again 4-5 clicks or so.

dont forget your whole team and tactics contribute to a good defence. if you can keep the ball in midfield and upfront your defence wont have much to worry about. if you cant keep possession and your under attack constantly, then of course you'll concede lots of goals.

hope this helps
