Defensive Tactics

I've always wondered if you could have such a thing as a 'defensive tactic' for a team in FM, though I did think that there are certain aspects that can make a tactic defensive. Playing as a weaker team in most leagues and when you go into Europe, there are some games where you will be defending for most of it and then catching them on the counter. The things that I would have thought would be in a defensive tactic would be playing the ball long a lot of the time, playing narrowly, things like that. I've been trying to make a defensive tactic but with little luck so if anyone can give me some advice on what to put in the tactic that would be great.
