It's official, the Winter break is here..That means one thing, transfers! But who will be leaving Fortuna Duesseldorf, and who will be staying?
The Winter break itself went well, wins against Luebeck, Jura-Sud and Slovan while picking up a home draw against top tier side Freiburg. An excellent set of results.
Transfers - The ins and outs...
Incoming Players
4 players have been brought in during the Winter window, Serge Gnabry and Khouma Babacar have joined on loan while Fredrik Ulvestad joins us on a free transfer. The only cash deal of the Winter is the 500,000 euro signing of Samed Yesil from Liverpool.
But let me show you the reasons behind these deals.
Fredrik Ulvestad - Central Midfielder
I was advancing through the window when Ulvestad was recommended to me by my scouts, the Norwegian has some very rounded stats and I'm sure he'll do a very capable job for us over the course of the season. The good thing about this transfer is that is was a free one so the risk is very minimal.
Serge Gnabry - Winger
Well I'm sure you all know who Gnabry is, the German youngster has some very good potential and is more than capable of providing some pace and flair for us out wide. I'm extremely delighted with the deal, especially for the £0 per month wage cost.
Samed Yesil - Striker
A bit of an overspend but Samed Yesil has some good potential and can provide capable back-up to our strikers, I'm a big fan of the Turkish youngster and look forward to working with him over the years.
Khouma Babacar - Striker
The Fiorentina youngster has some good attributes for a Striker and can provide some healthy competition with Pohjanpalo as we look to secure a return to the top flight. Another free loan deal means there's very little risk to this transfer.
Outgoing Transfers
Not too much activity, we've loaned our Erat and Bebou to gain some first-team experience while Dutch striker Benschop has moved to Gladbach for 2.5 million, a healthy deal for the club overall and hopefully one we won't come to regret. All the income we can get will benefit the club.
Other News
Our star goalkeeper has been tied to a new deal until 2017, his wages have bee doubled but I'm confident that this is a good deal for everyone involved, he's been fantastic all season.
The return to the 2. Bundesliga isn't an easy one, we take on high flying Union Berlin, Nuernburg and Braunschweig but hopefully we can secure the points as we look to extend the gap at the top.
