INTRODUCTION
Detroit City are a professional club representing the metropolitan area of Detroit, Michigan. Additionally, they field a u23 side, a pro-am ladies side, and run various youth soccer programs throughout the Detroit area that promote active lifestyles and a love of the game. In real life, they've been one of the most successful lower-league American clubs in recent memory, winning their division of the National Premier Soccer League (NPSL) twice and hoisting the National Independent Soccer Association (NISA) league trophy twice in a row. Other trophies in their cabinet include the 2019 NPSL Members Cup, the 2021 NISA Legends Cup and two consecutive NISA Independent Cups starting in 2020. Their recent successes have seen them promoted to the United Soccer League (USL) Championship, the second tier of the pro/rel-free USA pyramid and directly below Major League Soccer, our premiership.

This save is being played on a mod that adds pro/rel to the US pyramid, as well as adding a number of independent and amateur/non-league sides not available in other mods. DCFC will start in the USA Third Division, equivalent to starting at the very upper echelons of the NPSL.

Starting in the USA Third Division, DCFC's aspirations are toward continued success and eventual promotion to the premiership.

Media pundits and bookmakers give them an outside chance of winning the league, sitting in 4th in that race behind auto-promotion favorites the Los Angeles Force and the Oakland Roots, but approximately even with fellow dark horses North Texas SC.

To help them stay on the right track, DCFC have recently hired the granddaughter of legendary B-movie director Ed Wood, US women's national team midfielder Olivia Wood. Though Wood is the first woman to manage a major American professional mens side, the perception among DCFC staff is that her mix of soccer knowledge and quirky sensibilities is a perfect fit for the Detroit fans.

Though a recent memo leaked to the American sports media suggests "high turnover" can be expected with regards to the roster, a number of supporter favorites have already been approached with longer-term extensions.

In terms of tactics, under Wood DCFC will employ a 4-2-1-3 with a tall pyramid shape in the midfield and the defenders playing deep back into the defensive third. This tactic suits DCFC's overabundance of pacey strikers and creative midfielders. The midfielders are free to play further up without worrying about immediately conceding on any sort of counter attack.

And finally, the initial captains for DCFC's inaugural season in the pro/rel format will be fullback Richard Bryan as captain and midfielder George Chomakov as vice-captain, with young midfielder Maxi Rodriguez acting as stand-in captain.
