Yes, a poor month in comparison to others. However, the result against Bremen pleased me as the performance was poor yet we still picked up the three points.
To still be in and around the spots for European football after some poor results is good news and shows we're genuine contenders!
Following the disappointment of October, Thomas Tuchel's team reacted well to pick up 7 points from a possible 9. Title challengers Borussia Dortmund were the only team to keep Frankfurt's attack quiet, albeit at the expense of their own attacking threats.
In the first Bundesliga match of the month, high-flying Frankfurt travelled to bottom of the table SC Paderborn in expectant mood. The hosts, however, had different ideas in mind as they started brightly and took an early 3-0 lead. Despite the disappointment of the first-half, Tuchel sent his troops out firing on all cylinders as they propelled themselves to take all three points thanks to a late Vaclav Kadlec goal.
Title challengers Borussia Dortmund arrived at the Commerzbank-Arena for the second game of the month on the back of a 10 game unbeaten run - which includes an 8-1 victory at Stuttgart, a 1-0 win over Chelsea and a 3-0 victory over rivals Schalke. A stubborn Frankfurt defence limited Dortmund to few chances and earned their team a 0-0 draw. For the final game of the month, Die Adler travelled to newly-promoted Koln who boasted an excellent home record - having only dropped points to leaders Bayern Munich. A dominant Frankfurt performance, however, put another dent in Koln's record as a brace from in-form Vaclav Kadlec secured all three points for the visitors.
Eintracht Frankfurt's Bundesliga form suffered in the run-up to the Winter Break, although cup progression against club rivals Kaiserslautern prevented Die Adler supporters from being too disgruntled.
Borussia Monchengladbach visited the Commerzbank-Arena in the first Bundesliga game of the month boasting a very similar record and league position to their hosts. An early goal from defender Marco Russ put Frankfurt into the lead. Any hopes Tuchel's team had of taking all three points were destroyed as youngster Julian Korb headed an equaliser for Gladbach at the game's death. Big rivals FC Kaiserslautern then played host to Eintracht Frankfurt in the 3rd Round of the DFB-Pokal. Goals from man-of-the-match Bastian Oczipka and forward Jan Rosenthal ensured a safe passage for Die Adler into the quarter final where they will host Aalen.
A trip to Hoffenheim was next for Tuchel and his team as they faced a side who have lingered in the bottom half of the table for much of the season so far. A dominant performance from Die Adler wasn't enough to prevent them from scuppering to a loss despite Canadian striker Olivier Occean offering late hope. A faltering Wolfsburg then travelled to face Eintracht Frankfurt and were easily despatched despite the constant threat provided by Kevin De Bruyne. Frankfurt visited high-flying Stuttgart in the final game of the month and were easily despatched by their hosts. Left-back Oczipka scored a late consolation for Die Adler.
