I don't understand. Why wouldn't YOU want YOUR players to do what YOU want and try to make YOUR system on YOUR game work?

INB4 ''Not everyone is good at the game''. You have to start somewhere. I was terrible when i was 7 years old, but a year later i was pretty good.

Not a call-out thread, just discussing.

Sometimes i do,not very often though to be honest, like to try chop&change a few things here and there to find the right balance.Personally dont see the point in d/loaded tactics.

You don't see the point in someone making something for someone who can't or doesn't want to?

I've tried to use downloaded tactics but for ME its just makes the game less interesting. I can understand why some people would use them though.

Only when i want to get inspiration for a new tactic i'd look at tactics posted at here.
Like i'm not used to make 4-4-2 tactics or a 3 or 5 men defence tactic. So I'd look on here see what roles the most popular tactics they use and i'll tweek so they'll fit my players.
But that doesn't happen very often.

I always use downloaded tactics. I like to just switch on and play a dozen games when I get the chance so don't want to spend what limited time I have playing FM making and testing my own. I have nothing but respect for the guys who upload their tactics for people like me to use. Fair play if you prefer to use your own.

I usually download a tactic I like the look off, tweak it to my club and my way of playing and go from there.

Watch real life football or go on Zonalmarking.net for inspiration.

Similar for me, I like the player and finance management rather than the tactic managerment. I've used various over the years but the 4-1-4-1 is how I actually like my teams to play now and it's my preferred formation due to the numerous tactics. Because of this, if I were to build my own tactic that's how I would run it. I'm now running Callamity's tactic which is exactly this so it just cuts the frustration (well, some of it) and time consumption out of the equation and lets me get to building an empire and youth recruitment.

Since I'm doing a lower league, long term game now aswell I just don't have the time or energy to mess around making my own tactic, so it's nice to plug and play. And like someone said, the day FM destroys plug and play tactics is the day I stop buying FM too, which will be a sad day for me.

Problem with that is firstly it takes much more work to go find out anything on there than it would to simply find a reliable tactic on here to use as a base. Secondly no amount of watching real life football or looking on zonalmarking will tell if it actually works on FM.

I've downloaded tactics that use an approach I'd like to try out, I use them and see how they work and if I like them. I'll then work from there to create something more suited to my team and how I'd like it to be.

People are entitled to look at, be inspired and download tactics if they want. They paid for the game so they can play it in whatever way they choose. Contrary to popular belief, there is no correct way to play a game: If they enjoy it and they are being entertained then they are getting their monies worth out of it.

Not all of FM players want to be (or can be) tactical geniuses.
There are people who love football but don't have the time to study in depth how formations work and how to interlink the lines to make both wide and advanced players work efficiently together: They shouldn't have to suffer because of this so I like that you can download tactics.

As long as there are people who are happy to create and share their tactics, I don't think anyone should complain about people downloading them.

My own background is in playing (as a Goalkeeper) and then I went into Goalkeeping coaching. I hated people telling me what to do and always tried to find my own systems (my coaches hated me since I'd tell them if I didn't like their training routines :P ) and that carried over into FM. I've never downloaded a tactic since I prefer to fiddle around with things myself and I don' feel satisfied unless I've had to work for my success: I hate being given a winning formula.

But this is MY personality and this is unique to ME!I'd never dream of telling another player how to play the game.

I see downloading tactics as almost the same as downloading shortlists of wonderkids or everyone signing the same players every time. Nothing wrong in doing that, it just isn't for me.

One of my minor gripes about the series of games is how it used to be such that you can start with virtually any team, sign the same awesome players, play the same tactic and just win everything. I am really struggling with FM14 at the moment, but I really like the fact that every time I start a new save, there is almost nothing in common with a previous save. The individual qualities of the players can really make a difference to the success of a tactic now, so there are less plug and play options. As someone who likes the challenge (and reward) of instilling my own personal stamp on a team, this makes it much more interesting.

As a Jose Mourinho fan, I play every game with specific tactical details, I at times watch full games and analyse and tweak my tactics, I keep a check on opposition's players, their weakness and their strengths, I go into every match with a strategy, not just same tactic. I'm not afraid to make an impact sub and change formation/the way we're playing. I always have 2 tactics going on. (I think 3 is too much, Whenever I introduce a third, I remove one of the former two). Of course this method takes time and most people just want to skip to the conclusion of the season, I enjoy the ride. I grow affection to some players and at times even favor them when they're performing horribly. :P
My tactics are never based on what Board asks me to do. Board asked me to play attacking and possession football, I told them to shove it, they said no. I still play high pressing Counter-attacking, I keep winning, board can't sack me. Although it's Chelsea, IDK if they will. xD

It comes down to whether tactics actually work in the game though...I, for instance, watch a lot of football and consider myself to be tactically astute. I made a fantastic tactic for FM13 that was practically unbeatable, yet most of my efforts on the FM14 match engine have been utter failures.

So yeah, there's understanding tactics; there's also understanding how to implement tactics to accommodate for the match engine - many people frankly can't get over this hurdle...Hopefully this hurdle will be reduced somewhat with the winter ME update which I eagerly await.

I love reading the insight that you guys provide on here in relation to tactics and the intrinsic principles that are applied. I also think it is great they upload them for others to use, it is a game after all and everyone just wants to enjoy it.
I have always made my own tactics and have enjoyed reasonable success over the years but am not good enough to work out the finer details. Thankfully I think the removal of sliders has made it easier to come up with a decent tactic although I appreciate some don't like they were removed.
Ultimately I think it is good that we have a choice depending on what we want from the game.

Any system can work if you use it correctly.

If only that were true, have fun playing some of the formations and styles they did back in the 30s.
2-3-5, 3-3-4, 2-3-2-3, plus a fair few others, doesn't matter how much reading you do about them you're still very very likely to fail to do anything with them in game.

Anyway you said use it correctly, which is why people often download one and use that as a base for their own. Something they know is working on the game and something they can work from.
No amount of watching football on TV will allow you to know if it will work in game unless you or someone else has tested it.

i download them but don't really enjoy the game as much compared to making my own tactics.
i check out what are the settings others used and try to merge various setups when creating my own.
Work or not, the game is more enjoyable to me with my own tactics.

Same here. I prefer and enjoy the game more when I do my own tactics.
