BAGGIES FALTER IN EURO BID
WBA.jpg

A dodgy December has seen West Bromwich Albion's European ambitions tempered somewhat as the Baggies succumbed to 3 defeats from 6 Premier League games

West Brom began the month poorly, losing to Manchester United and Middlesbrough 2-1 and 2-0 respectively before edging past Southampton 1-0 through a late Tomas Kalas strike

Albion then lost 1-0 to Chelsea before struggling to overcome struggling Reading, only confirming their 3-1 win late on through Nacer Chadli. This was followed up by a 1-1 home draw against Liverpool

Fortunately for the Baggies their poor league form hasn't been carried into cup competitions as they put Newcastle United to the sword in the League Cup Quarter Finals, thumping the Magpies in a resounding 5-0 victory at St James' Park

West Brom will play Manchester City in the semi final

LEAGUE CUP SEMI FINAL SECOND LEG
WEST BROMWICH ALBION 3 [6]
Burke 29, Sierhuis 29, 45+4
MANCHESTER CITY 0 [0]

West Bromwich Albion have left behind any murmurs of discontent following the disappointing FA Cup defeat to MK Dons by wowing the country with two incredible displays against Manchester City

Two 3-0 wins in the League Cup semi finals have left West Brom just 90 minutes away from ending their 55 year trophy drought

An amazing first half performance won the game for the Baggies, with Oliver Burke capitalising on a defensive error and Kaj Sierhuis dispelling his doubters with an important brace

West Brom, who sit 10th in the Premier League following another poor month, turned on the style under the floodlights at The Hawthorns with arena packed yet again this season

They will play Chelsea in the final

JANUARY TRANSFERS
1200px-West_Bromwich_Albion.svg.png

We've been busy

First off we sold Nacer Chadli to Bournemouth £2m, Cenk Tosun to Sampdoria for £10m, Douglas Santos to Fiorentina for £10m and Joao Virginia to Cardiff for £190,000

But who came in?

AARON RAMSEY - FREE TRANSFER

One of my favourite players of all time left Arsenal last season after making 324 league appearances for the Gunners. Instrumental in the Wales team that reached the Euro 2016 semi finals and criminally underrated by Arsenal fans. I won't have a bad word said about him.

JAMES McCARTHY - WEST HAM UNITED - £1.4M

Cheap backup

GRAHAM SPILLANE - CREWE ALEXANDRA - £1.9M
View attachment 63222
I signed him for Crewe in the summer, nicked him off them in January

BRENDAN GALLOWAY - READING - £2.6M

More cheap backup

EGNALDO - SANTOS - £15M

That's right. He's back! After 10 goals in 22 games for Santos I swooped for my old mate from Crewe (I'm on his favoured personnel). We needed a proper striker and hopefully Eggy fits the bill

Got to rate Ramsey, even at 31 he will be a very good player for you and can tutor younger players also.

Couldn't believe he hadn't been picked up, only noticed he was without a club around October when I looked at the Wales squad

WEST BROMWICH ALBION 2

Lozano 39, Egnaldo 76

A final day game against already relegated Reading gave West Bromwich Albion manager Matthew Hawkins ample opportunity to give Baggies fans a look at the potential future of the side

Hawkins gave debuts to January signing Graham Spillane and academy prospects Alex Booth and Dave Pierpoint, who became the youngest player ever to appear for the club at just 15.

This win cemented West Brom's place in 6th

What a season....top 6 finish! Get in!
Our insane Pardew-esque run helped massively

On a sidenote, Aaron Ramsey should have won signing of the season (he didn't), he's the dressing room enforcer now, anyone complains, Aaron "has a word"

Good season and have to be happy with 6th and a place in Europe. Bit of a gap to bridge to the teams above but I'm sure you'll work your magic for next season.

Cheers mate, the gap is massive and this squad needs a lot more depth for a European campaign
