One game left this season but can we hang on to a playoff spot?

I really hope you can grab a playoff spot mate...you deserve it this season I think! Who's your last game against?

LOCAL LAD SAVES COUNTY

HARROGATE TOWN 1
STOCKPORT COUNTY 4

Local boy Andy Brookes popped up in the 87th minute at Wetherby Road to save Stockport County's playoff hopes, with the teenager's late strike securing County's playoff place at Blyth Spartans' expense

Stockport needed to better Blyth's result to be sure of a playoff place and Stockport started well, going 2-0 up in 34 minutes through 2 Eoghan Stokes goals. County walked in 3-1 up at half-time and left fairly assured of a playoff spot with Blyth only 1-0 up at home to Stafford Rangers

Blyth, however, soon raced into a 4-0 lead and County's hopes seemed dead as the clock ticked on to the 90th minute, only for the local boy Andy Brookes to strike Stockport's 4th and secure Stockport's playoff spot by only one goal

Stockport County will play Spennymoor Town in the Vanarama North Playoff First Round on the 8th of May 2019

Wow. Wow, wow, wow. I gave the boys the mother of all bollockings at half-time and boy did they turn it around! We battered them second half and Andy Brookes, Michael Clarke and Freddy Yao sent the 2,800 travelling Stockport fans into delirium!

Following our playoff heartbreak, I took some time off to "rest before the coming season". Screw that, I sent my cv off to every club with a vacancy. I knew my stock wouldn't be as high as this, we were lucky to get into the playoffs with a team who shouldn't have been finishing higher than mid table, and I knew it would be hard trying to replicate this next season. So off went the cv.

Rochdale had just been relegated from League 1 and couldn't afford me, is that good or bad?

View attachment 70307
Meanwhile Grimsby, who'd just been relegated to the Vanarama National could afford me, what is this nonsense?

View attachment 70306
And finally the beautiful club that is Crewe Alexandra came in with an interview, they finished one spot above Grimsby and are a league club.

View attachment 70304
And they offered me the job.

Like I said, Stockport's team isn't that great, but the finances are absolutely fantastic for this level of football. I'm a fiscal genius

View attachment 70303
Buuuuuuuuuuut Crewe are a Football League club with some pedigree and are two divisions higher than County. I swindled them up to £1,000 per week on a one year deal. Did I sign it though?

View attachment 70302
Of course I ****** did

Welcome to Crewe. The town of 72,000 people in deepest, darkest Peru, sorry Cheshire. Crewe are a fairly famous club for their standing, famed for their youth setup but have fallen on hard times as of late. Only staying up by three points last season

My job is keeping this lot in the Football League.
View attachment 69808

There's a solid squad of youngsters here. A lot of the big earners have their contracts expiring in June and I won't be renewing most of them so Ill have young core that only requires a few signings

I want to bring in my 4-1-2-3 that worked at Stockport, we'll counter attack with pace on the wings. I'm full of optimism, especially if we keep our best players...

Oh wait, George Cooper isn't signing a new contract. And he's our best player. Bollocks.

Harsh that your "moment of the season" was your 7-0 thrashing!

TRANSFER SHENANIGANS

So this is Crewe, and what have we done? Another year over, a new one just begun.... from the single Crewe Alexandra (Stockport is Over). I'll let myself out

At Stockport I was very much part of the Warnockian School of Thought. "Lump it" and "When in doubt, get it out" were sprayed on the walls at Stockport County and the players adhered to my "philosophy" of quick, aggressive, direct football

But now, I have Football League players at my disposal. Time to implement "possession football", whatever that is...

But first, we needed players.

AWFUL START FORCES TACTICAL RETHINK
View attachment 69211

New boss Matthew Hawkins' awful start to life at Crewe Alexandra has led to a tactical rethink, with the Welshman admitting that "changes have to be made" following a run of 0 wins in 6 games

This run has led to the Railwaymen sitting 23rd in League 2

Hawkins started his tenure with a 2-1 away loss against Bristol Rovers before an embarrassing 5-1 thumping against Sheffield Wednesday in the League Cup followed

Crewe then conceded back-to-back two goal leads to draw against Notts County and Wycombe Wanderers, before rounding out the month with losses against Newport County and Crawley Town

The Welsh boss has admitted he was wrong to try implementing his counter attacking style from Stockport County and has promised radical changes in the coming weeks
