CULLEN JOINS PROMOTION PUSH
C19aI5i7.jpg

Swansea striker Liam Cullen has joined Crewe Alexandra on loan until the end of the season as the Alex attempt to regain their status in League 1 after 3 seasons in League 2

Cullen has joined following the departures of Daniel Udoh and Michael Raynes, who left for Mansfield and Stevenage respectively, garnering £32,000 in transfer fees

Cullen has joined following a testing month for Crewe, where they overcame League 1 Peterborough United in the FA Cup Third Round but fell to Scunthorpe United in the Checkatrade Trophy

They have also had an eventful month in the league. Beating Newport County, Crawley Town and Cheltenham Town, drawing with Notts County and Lincoln City before losing to Bury 3-0.

Cullen has been brought in due to what manager Matthew Hawkins sees as a "lack of goalscorers" in his side, with his top scorers being wingers George Cooper and Ryan Wintle, who have an impressive 31 goals between them

The strikers, however, are lagging behind. With Mikhail Kennedy bagging just 9 goals this term and Colm Nolan just three with Owen Dale scoring just one Jermaine Beckford yet to find the back of the net

Not a good month

Unlucky in the FA Cup! I bet 10 minutes into the game against West Brom you were wondering who you were going to get in the quarter finals. And despite the bad month hopefully you can do enough in the remaining games to get top 3.

9 MAN CREWE BATTLE ON TO REMAIN IN POLE POSITION

The nine men of Crewe Alexandra battled on to gain a valuable point at Plough Lane

The Railymen, left short-handed following Ruben Sammutt's early red card and an injury to Jack Elliott in the 70th minute, battled hard to recover an irretrievable position as they aim to regain their status as a League 1 club

Crewe started brightly before Sammutt' dismissal shifted things massively into Wimbledon's favour, with a makeshift backline of George Cooper, Brandon Haunstrup, Michele Di Pietro and Matt Penney keeping the Wombles at bay

A performance of steel backs up Hawkins' assertion that the Alex aren't feeling the nerves as they have extended their unbeaten run to 8 games following their 0-0 draw with Dagenham & Redbridge and a 1-0 win away at Cambridge United

These results have left Crewe in pole position going into the final four games of the season

PREMIER TRIO ARRIVE AT ALEX
C2Y83odXAAEtb1k.jpg

Crewe Alexandra have kicked off the transfer window in style, signing a trio of players all from Premier League clubs

First to sign were a duo from Chelsea who have signed permanent deals on free transfers.

First of the duo was Craig Laycock who's signed a one year deal following his release from Chelsea

Laycock, 18, came through the ranks at Stamford Bridge but was deemed surplus to requirements by the Blues

Hawkins had this to say on the youngster: "He has all the attributes required, he just has to get his head down and kick on"

The second to join was also a free from Chelsea, as Alexandra brought in Junior Hall from the 6 time Premier League champions

Hall, also 18, came through the Chelsea youth system much like Laycock

Hall, like Laycock, was touted for greatness at one point in his career but is yet to make the grade following years at Chelsea

Last but not least is the real coup, the capture of Welsh Under 21 international Neil Nicholas on a season long loan

Manchester United product Nicholas, born in Newport, has drawn comparisons to countrymen Ian Rush and Mark Hughes since becoming Manchester United's youngest ever player when he came on against Tottenham Hotspur in the FA Cup Sixth Round at the age of just 15 and 348 days

The teenager has also had success on the international scene, scoring 5 goals in 12 games for Wales Under 21s as they impressed in the 2019 Euros

Fulham wouldn't let us have Sessegnon on loan again so we needed a right back. Luke fills that mould perfectly

MATT PENNEY - SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY - FREE TRANSFER

LOANEES SIGNED FOLLOWING CREWE'S SOLID START
Scott-McTominay-656715.jpg
pe_00637798.jpg

Manchester United youngsters Scott McTominay and Ethan Galbraith have today secured loan deals with Crewe Alexandra following the Railwaymen's solid start to the League 1 season

Midfielders McTominay and Galbraith will link up with a familiar face in Neil Nicholas, who has scored 3 goals in 3 games so far this campaign

Scottish Under 21 international McTominay, 23, and Northern Irish Under 21 international Galbraith, 19, have been brought to the club following the departures of Tom Plezier (Crawley £10,000), Tom Burridge (Wrexham £10,000), Charlie Kirk (AFC Wimbledon £15,000) and Ruben Sammutt (Falkirk £15,00)
View attachment 67332 View attachment 67331

The duo have been brought in to bolster Crewe's squad following a solid start to the season which has seen them sitting in 6th at the end of August

An opening day 3-1 win at Milton Keynes Dons was followed up by a disappointing 4-2 defeat at Bolton Wanderers in the League Cup

Crewe's next win, 2-1 away at Mansfield, was sandwiched by home draws against Walsall (1-1) and Scunthorpe (2-2)

Crewe's unbeaten start to the season, however, ended with a 1-0 defeat to Barnsley at Oakwell
