Mikel was 'forced' into signing for utd, he really wanted to go to chelsea and Chelsea paid utd 10 mil, so I don't get your point with Mikel!
Like Mike said all the top clubs do it because they want to beat off any competitors for the player's signature.
As for this case it's not Chelsea's fault at all! It's the player or agents fault (most likely the agent).
Mikel Signed a deal with utd.. Signed a Contract, then Chelsea got him to sign a deal when already under contract, hence why they paid Utd 10million, not a clean deal is it.
It's not Chelsea's fault he originally signed a contract, surely Mikel and his agent should be punished for that then for signing two contracts...
Jon Obi Mikel has stated that he was pressured into signing for Man Utd while his advisors where not present. He asked Lyn for a week to think about the two offers one from Utd and one from Chelsea but they rejected this. If these claims by Mikel were true then Man Utd had acted in breach or Fifa and FA rules.
Now here is the main FACT, Man Utd made an official complaint to Fifa about Chelsea and the Mikels agent. The case was dismissed in August 2005 stating there was insufficent evidence to bring a case against Chelsea

Chelse and Utd were not to blame. Man Utd signed Mikel but Mikel didnt want to sign for Utd, he was forced into signing for them. Like i say no charges were issued. Im not saying Chelsea are squeaky clean because its obvious we are not but on that occasion we were.
