Argentine press gather to welcome shock change

Today marked a turning point in the history of Argentine side Velez Sarsfield history. They have announced the immediate removal of manager Ricardo Gareca without publicly announcing the official reasons for doing so.

It comes as a shock to many as Gareca has played 118 times for El Fortin and also managed them for nearly 4 years. It would appear though that he has managed toanger the board in some way to prompt his immediate removal.

However, the interesting part of the story is that club owner Miguel Callelo has took no time at all in annoucning who the replacement will be. He has chosen 25 year old Craig Todd to take the helm. With no managerial experience and can only speak very basic Spanish it would appear that Miguel has taken a huge gamble here. But speaking briefly he stated;

'I fully trust Craig with the reins of my club. What he lacks in experience he excels in enthusiasm and determination. He has a plan for this club and his plan is something that matched my own. Sadly Ricardo (Gareca) has had to leave but we needed to take a fresh start for the 2012/2013 league season. He will find more work I am certain of that.'

Speaking very broken Spainish Craig Todd managed to say;

'I look forward to moving to Buenos Aires and working hard for Velez. I hope to have a successful spell here.'

So far feelings are mixed on the new manager with many feeling that their new man simply doesn't bring enough to the table. It can only prove interesting to see what else will unfold during his tenure of the club.

No mention of tactics that will be used and thus far no transfers specified. ESPN will try and be the firs to supply these to you when we find out more.

Velez Sarsfield confirm signing of Juan Ignacio Duma

Duma playing for Universidad de Chile

ESPN are the first to reveal that Argentine side Velez Sarsfield have managed to snap up Argentine wonderkid Juan Ignacio Duma from Universidad de Chile for £3.5million. He signs a 4 year contract for the Buenos Aires outfit.

The 5'10 attacking midfielder has been described as a future star. He's 18 and can play anywhere across the midfield and as a striker. After coming through the ranks in Chile he had a very impressive first season at 17 and scored 9 goals in 28 games.

It was this that prompted scouts and quick action from Velez Sarsfield and El Fortin quickly made a bid to sign him up. It is believed that Craig Todd's plan is to try and train him to play in a similar role to his current playmaker, Federico Insua.

Todd also confirmed on his official Twitter page (@toddzy1) that he would not be signing anymore players during the window.

Velez Sarsfield 4-2 Tottenham

Facundo Ferreyra impresses

In a very warm evening within Buenos Aires it was an in-form Velez Sarsfield side that shone. In a highly anticipated game against a strong Tottenaham side El Fortin managed to triumph 4-2.

The game started very quickly and it didn’t take long for Velez to show AVB’s side that they were by no mean pushovers. They started with a 4-1-2-1-2 diamond formation with Insua just behind the strikers, Pratto and Ferreyra. However, it was bulldog midfielder Francisco Cerro who started very well as he made a defence crippling pass to find young Ferreyra. The new Argentine striker made no mistake and slotted the ball home under a hapless Brad Friedel.

Ferreyra was just getting started though. Picking the ball up on the left he dribbled past Kyle Naughton with ease before playing the ball to Insua. The Attacking midfielder quickly analysed the situation and returned the ball to Ferreyra beautifully. Once again Ferreyra left Tottenham’s big American with no chance burying it into the net.

But Tottenham weren’t down and out just yet, certainly not with Gareth Bale on the pitch. The Welshman grabbed the game by the scruff of the neck and scored 2 quick and easy goals, both set up by Dembele. 2-2 was how it was at HT.

Most of the Velez fans must have pondered whether or not Tottenham would now come out and dominate. Not the case. Ferreyra wanted the headlines and boy of boy did he grab them. 25 yards from goal he quick jinks past Scott Parker who is playing holding midfield before rifling a shot goalwards. The fresh hands of Hugo Lloris could only observe as the ball seductively found the the top left hand corner of the net.

Ferreyra put the icing on the cake with his 4 goal. The RB Peruzzi bombing down the sideline before effortlessly hanging the ball up to the back post. Greeting it was no other than Ferreyra who power the ball home with his head.

Ferreyra’s display will no doubt leave several European suitors purring, AVB himself admitting that he could be on the phone to Todd soon.

Craig Todd was quick to say on his official twitter (@toddzy1) that no bids at any cost would be accepted for Ferreyra.
