Nice post. Will try it, although, after Englands recent performances at the WC, I am kinda curious...

You should move away from the Cappello 442. its dated at the top level as seen tonight.

Try the Mike Bassett Christmas Pudding.

After watching the match i could have punched roony in the gob ( little ****)
Ok he played badly but it wasnt for the wont of trying
capello needs to change what hes doing in the last match or we are out . and completly deseved to allso
I am even thinking of not watching the last game as it was the worst match in WC i have seen
As for your tactic i am starting a england game so gonna give it a shot

Talking to my brother this morning, he said he didn't think he could remember a single incident of note in the match, though admittedly he was ******.. still, i don't even know how to analyse last night's game it was just really really lacklustre, they all looked bored, and played just like France, we're extremely lucky it was Algeria and not Mexico, or we'd be screwed. In terms of Rooney, he just can't play under pressure, perhaps if we're 2/3-0 up vs Slovenia or anyone else, he might grab a goal, although i doubt that situation will arise.

Rant over. Btw, this is a tactic thread, and not one about England vs Algeria, there's one HERE so I'd rather not go off topic again.. Back on topic for me now:
The problems i'm facing with this tactic are:
---Whether to play a flat 4-4-2, or work towards a narrower formation, with Walcott and Gerrard pushed forward, allowing the latter to come inside more, without causing congestion.
---Whether to now play Rooney further forward than Heskey, as he did against USA, or dropping deep, and if so how deep, for example against Algeria, he spent a lot of the time on the halfway line, though i think this was because of the lack of delivery to him, and his inability to touch the ball.
---Whether to play Glen Johnson as a 'wing back' with probably support duty, or as a 'full back' which will almost certainly limit his runs forward.
---In the new 4-2-3-1 how to play Gerrard.. Attacking Mid? Advanced Play-maker?
---Whether to have the starting strategy of attacking, or control or whether the element of "control" vs Algeria was just our failure to move around the pitch in general and their inability to get forward at any point..
--- Finally, whether to play short or direct passing, as the England team looked shaken by Beckenbauer's comments

My 'long awaited' Fabio Capello/England emulation tactic v1.2 is now released.

Changes made:

- More Direct passing style
- Narrower width
- Gerrard pushed forward as an Inside Fwd - Attack, and RW pushed up, but remaining as Winger - Attack.
- Rooney made Complete Forward - Support, and running with the ball sometimes, rather than often.
- Crouch/Heskey made Target Man - Attack and told to move into channels off the ball.
- Starting philosophy - Rigid.
- Crosses drilled into near post, not floated into far. (Mainly for the purposes of Walcott/Lennon/SWP's inability to cross, and their instructions to play it into space instead of looking for a specific man. (Told to them by David Beckham apparently).
- Ashley Cole/LB made to hug touchline, to make him wider, and get forward more on the overlap.

Footnote:
I started my England save again, mainly because i was bored of having to wait so long for a major competition, but also because with the introduction of a new tactic, i thought it best to not confuse my players with regular changes in Euro 2012, JT in particular wasn't too happy about the constant changes and wasn't playing well, despite me giving him the exact same instructions as now, when he plays fine. I think he just didn't like me!

Success:
I beat Holland 2-0, with the Dutch dominating posession, though only just, as expected but a good finish from Crouch, after Lampard and Gerrard realised they could actually pass to one another inside the box. Gerrard was exactly where i wanted him to be and cut a nice pass back from the byline after Lampard's cushioned header, to find Crouch, who promptly scored. Gerrard made it two after he found himself on the edge of the box, unmarked/unchallenged and smacked the ball into the top corner.

I'm starting a new game to test the new version too, in my last save I reached the last 16 in the World Cup but I did lose to Brazil.

After the way england played, why would you want to emulate the tactic:P.

Seriously, good tactic, seems to do the job.

I started it before the Algeria game 8-|.
Besides, my tactic is based on the theory that England aren't *****

Awesome, gonna start a new World Cup and try it out :)

Great start against the Netherlands

Nice result Steadinator.

:Pwhy wud you want your team to play so bad

@"flubber" and "the shots" this really isn't a complaints thread so please don't post off topic - this is a football manager tactic, aiming to replicate those used by Fabio Capello in his very successful qualification campaign, and less successful games against Algeria and USA, if you don't want to download it and post something constructive, then don't bother posting. There are threads for your complaints concerning the Algeria game.

EDIT: @ Steadinator, which tactic were you using?
EDIT: Does anyone know how i can get the green download box next to the thread?

Good good, hmm... good to see Rooney on the scoresheet, although, if i'm not very much mistaken, i believe in that tactic he is playing complete forward? I've now made a couple of changes which will be updated to the tactic and released properly when the next tactic for 4-3-2-1 is.

Problems:
- Rooney in 4-2-3-1 = Adv. Forward or Complete Fwd?
- Rooney in 4-2-3-1 + move into channels or just stay normal?
- LW = Inside Fwd + Support or Attack duty?
- Tempo

As always constructive criticism welcome if it's to do with the tactic and/or the way England do/will play tactically and formation wise, this doesn't mean you should post saying "Fabio should play 4-2-3-1 for England" without going into tactical detail, if it's not helpful or constructive, don't bother posting and don't go off topic.

Thankyou to Steadinator, who has consistently been back on the page to show me his updates of matches and results as i relase/update tactics, that is very helpful as it also gives me a jist as to who may need looking at to get better performances from etc.

I play 4-4-1-1 with Gerrard/Wilshere off Rooney (Advanced Forward) with Rooney moving into channels but not found the best way to play Gerrard/Wilshere. I have both my wingers just as normal wingers with attack duty. Young moving into channels and Lennon hugging the touchline. Seems to be working well so far but ain't had much time to try stuff out.

What do you reckon is the best way to play Gerrard considering its now 2014 and hes like 34 haha. Got Wilshere as back up though and hes quality. Also don't you think it would be better to drill crosses cause Rooneys heading stats aren't very good on the game and hes not going to win as many floated crosses.

rooney, complete forward, moves into channels to play in gerrard.

LW, depends on whos there, if joe cole, advanced playmaker. milner, winger support (dont underestimate the ability of that role to get you goals). set your tempo through the shouts. get the ball forwards/retain possession
