It's true but when you look at our backline we have to play deep. With a higher line we'd be torn even more, we are relying on the determination and dedication of St. Ledger and Dunne, who depite some mistakes can definitely walk with their heads held high.

I still expected better defending from Ireland. But then Spain are not just Barcelona, they can be more direct, and when they are, they are devastating.

best fans in the world us irish 20000 of us turn up from a country with no money an i noticed people taking the mikey we counter a sub with paul green we might not be the best footballing nation in the world but we play with pride passion for our country when we qualify for a tournament our nation gets behind our team not find ways in the press to bring them down like the english press and tv do how many english fans were at the france game 5000 you were lucky theres going to be around 18000 swedish fans against england where are all your fans? so for all of you taking the **** when your country plays with the same pride passion and loyalty to tthe badge on the shirt and not the pay packet the type things in here but you dont when we play italy on monday the irish will be there again in force doing the country proud!

All the England players match fee's go straight to charity mate.

No one is slating your fans for singing etc, we are slating your side and praising Spain. Just because your fans chanted loud does not mean you deserve credit, it never helped the side in any way did it.

Convincing performance by Spain, totally out played Ireland through their football style. Nice to see Torres grabbing goals once more. And Cesc, **** what a goal right there. Goal of the tournament contender.

Really pleased for Torres. Hopefully he can continue having a good tournament which could do him the world of good going into the new BPL season :)

Also, funnily enough, second edition of "they are playing without striker, Del Bosque must have gone insane", and once again Cesc scores.

They were 3-0 up when they stopped playing with a striker, Spain played much better with striker thank without it.

well at least our fans turned up to see our side get spanked like i said where are the english fans ?we are a poor nation we aint that great at football but we try and us fans love that because we try! and if england get to semis or final(which i hope you do) there will be loads of you out there that aint loyalty!

Not being disrespectful to the Irish football, but seriously the Spain game is over reacting. They met a very poor side, perhaps a side that can not even defend and perhaps the worst team in this tournament. I am tired of hearing stuff like Torres and Silva are class... I ve heard that Modric > Pirlo yesterday and I was shocked. Where was Modric today? Was he playing?

What are your toughs on Italy-Croatia game? I would say that the refereeing was bad. If Maggio was 2 times offside then the Croatia goal was offside too. I think that Srna should have been red carded for his elbow hit against Motta, but the referee refused to book, just because he stopped the game for a foul earlier. You, guys know that I am biased when it comes for Italy, so I would like to hear if you think Croatia with their only 1 chance deserved to get the point. Now Italy should win with more than 3-1 in their game against Ireland and with these poor strikers I doubt that they can score 3.

@De Rossi. De Rossi played like 2-3 games as CB last season and might be in 2-3 games more the last 20 minutes acted as CB. He is actually really pulling some Beckenbauer in this tournament. I am glad that a Roma player has shown some class and quality and that Italy is showing that the Libero is back. As far as I remember Germany and Zammer were the last team using Libero.

Don't worry Italy will pass the stage, the GD only counts between the tied teams so the goals against Ireland don't count so unless Spain draws by 2-2 or more goals Italy will pass.
You know I'm also biased but I do think that Xavi, Iniesta and Silva are better than anyone in the italian team although I do partucularly like giovinico.

Stop trying to bait england fans, and grow up. No one criticised the fans, but rightly pointed out that Ireland were torn to shreds.

It's a little sad that rather than talk about your own side, you need to try and turn on someone else.

Croatia deserved their point. They were creating plenty down the flanks, with plenty of good crosses and Jelavic should have gambled much more in the 6 yard box, could have poached a winner like he has done for Everton.

Ireland are better than they have been in this tournament. Usually very defensively solid. They did not play to their best in the last two games at all

My god i ******* hate Alan Hansen, Torres's general performance was not that good apparently. Does he have to be such a bell?

Torres was very good, simply because he is a mobile centre forward who runs the channels. Stretches the play and gives Spain a focal point.

Italy is going down on monday, the only time italians beat Croatians was in 1942, and in that match Croatia had to lose because we had puppet government and the game was organized to boost moral of crapy italian army. Although Croatia did not give the performance it could have given we deserved a point since it was a classic game of two halves. The ref was awfull imo, he had many mistakes, not awarding penalty kick on Jelavic in opening minutes was just one of those..

Then he is so bitter about him leaving Liverpool still or he is just a really **** pundict?

It was good, but not on a world class striker level, there were a couple chances he should have scored. Anyway, it was a good match, he didn't only score but he opened spaces perfectly for silva & CO to occupy.

That's what im trying to say, his performance was very good and was involved in most good things that came Spain's way.

To be fair i also have trouble deciding whether it was Torres playing very good, or just defending was that terrible. :P

The Irish did impress me with size of their balls, they did keep trying, while i think 9 out of 10 teams would just back down and defend with 10 man when outclassed like that. But it still doesn't change the fact the defending was awful, particularily Silva goal. 3 man standing in front of him and he gets to score?

Has to be a bit of both surely, their defence could have played poor and so could have Torres.

Torres did his job well, but Ireland were also poor. I think he can still play better, but this will have spurred him on.
