Except that isnt the role required on the outside. Podolski is quick, creates well, tracks back hard. There is a reason he is always there. He is the second forward in the side. Playmaker through the middle, hard working winger forward on the right, its pretty much how Germany always line up. Gotze is a 10, and his place is occupied by Ozil.

He can play on the flanks though, maybe even give him a try instead of Muller then. I seriously think he would be a huge threat to any defence and he is far too good to be left on the bench.

Podolski and Muller both have a very good goal scoring record for Germany considering that they play very wide so that Ozil and Schweinsteiger have space in the middle to supply Gomez. If Gotze played he would want to move into that space so there would be less space to create chances.

Exactly, Muller and Podolski are there to keep the width, score, create a bit, track back hard. Which they do brilliantly for the most part.

But he isnt a finisher who tracks back hard. That is how the the flanks are utilised.

Think the Germany vs Greece match will be very similar to the Champions League Final in terms of who dominates the game

One of the Greece CMs will have to keep a tight watch on Oezil and track him because Ozil loves to overload the flanks and cause problems to the defence. Sitting deep wont work either because Ozil is a fantastic player who can easily unlock defences and if he has a bad day, excellent alternatives in Kroos and Gotze are availiable on the bench

One of the Greek CMs will also have to track the runs of Schwientieger and Khedeira. Where they are particulalry dangerous is that either one of them can make the run thus making it harder to contain them. It was a similar situation in the CL Finals-

Di Matteo had asked Juan Mata to track the runs of the players in Bayern's double pivot who were Schwienstieger and Kroos in this case. Problem was that he got confused on who he should track. Kroos would make the run and Juan Mata would track him and then Schwienstieger would make a similar run at the same time overloading our midfield

This was obviously helped by the fact that Chelsea were playing very poorly and were unable to exploit the space the Bayern CMs would leave behind on the counter. Can see a similar situation for the Greeks here particularly as their attack seems to be so poor

Best bet for Greece would be to sit tight and defend for their lives. Pray they do not concede early. Try to snag a goal on a set-piece otherwise hold out till penalties and hope for the best

Apparently Klose, Reus and Schurrle will start.

Its a good idea. Klose will be able to confuse the defence with his fluid movement along with Reus and Schurrle. Gomez is pretty immobile despite having the ability to knock in the goals. He can provide a more direct option from the bench if needed

Not sure why Schurrle/Reus are starting though. I recall reading somewhere that Klose has excellent understanding with Podolski and Mueller

Klose I understand, more rounded than Gomez, and Greece will sit very deep, Klose will be more useful at unlocking them. The latter two are very good, but I agree I dont see the real need to bring them in, unless he wants to make sure they are match fit. Dont know if either Muller or Podolski are carrying yellows.

Still no reason to upset a winning combination particularly in a knock-out game. Greeks will defend deeply and bravely and familiarity between the players in the attacking unit will be key which is pretty much non-existent between Klose, Reus and Schurrle

Think Ozil will be key in this game. He has the ability to unlock defences that sit very deep likes Greece's and if he is on form, Germany will knock in the goals. If he has a bad day then Germany must struggle to initiate cohesive attacks on the Greek defence

Also while Gotze is a fantastic player, he has suffered a injury that kept him out for half a season so he will probably be rusty if he is forced to replace Ozil. Kroos is a option as well although Loewe likes to play him in the double pivot if I am not wrong

Not really, these 3 have serious firepower. And Klose is no stranger to tournament football

I know they are good players But changing them to me, is a serious amount of confidence in resting players for the Semi-Final

If it comes to backfire ( Which is still unlikely ) serious questions will be raised...

TBH, I dont see why they would be, Klose is a better option than Gomez against a very deep defense. And Reus and Schurrle are no slouches.

Call me crazy but I believe in a greek miracle.

Your completely mad, the germans are going to roll over the greeks and crush them like insects, possiblely a 3 or 4 nil score line easily, the greeks are finished in this euro's tonight, sent back to there debt ridden country by THE GERMANS lol.

Not sure if trolling.

Or just stupid.

When one gives more importance than money than to knowledge then we are doomed, screw Greece, what do they do? That pansy thing called democracy? Who needs that ****.
Oh well, it's the possible comment to that.

Greece i still think look the worse team in the Euro's yet they are in the Quarters,

I think Germany will win but it wont be an 'easy' result... Greece will put every man behind the ball and look for a counter opportunity... Its weather the Germans can break them down

Not the worst, Republic Of Ireland hold that card. Greeks beat Russia.

Republic did perform really badly but they had a very very hard group..

Russia if they could actualy finish would have embarrased Greece That day,

Everytime i have watched them they have looked awful, BUT qualified, so i suppose thats all that matters to most..
