The Evening Chronicle can exclusively reveal Newcastle United top 2 targets on their January wishlist, Junior Hoilett and Wilfried Zaha. Of course there are said to be another 5-6 names on the Toons radar but we respectfully keep them under wraps. The Magpies have already made an approach to Blackburn over the availability of Hoilett as he is available on a Bosman in the summer and has already declared his intention to either be sold or leave in the summer, this is down to hearing about NUFC's interest.
Wilfried Zaha is currently impressing in the npower Championship with Crystal Palace, so much so he has recently been awarded a new 5-year deal, this does not fend of Newcastle's interest however. The 19-year-old has put in some qaulity performances from either wing this season and has a return of 3 goals in 24 games, this is seen as a transfer for the future. So just to clear up, Hoilett is the top target.

Newcastle would not reveal who they were looking to sell but it is believed James Perch and Leon Best will move this month, as well as Danny Guthrie and Mike Williamson already have agreed deals with Leicester. Jores Okore will join the Toon in the next few days as a deal was struck back in late November for the 19-year-old Danish defender.

Newcastle show no signs of a Christmas and New Year hangover as it returned to business as usual with another stylish display at The Sports Direct Arena. Papiss Demba Cisse has really settled into Tyneside and the Premier League as his two goals today take him to 8 in 16 in the league. Danny Simpson also grabbed a goal against his former club. Jonas Gutierrez was left out today for no official reason.

Demba Ba and Tim Krul
Newcastle moved quickly to tie up key players as Demba Ba and Tim Krul were both handed new contracts up until 2016. This comes in the aftermath of both Barcelona and Real Madrid tabling enquiries for Newcastles Senegalese number 19. Tim Krul has been catching the eye of Man City and Arsenal with consistent displays this season.

Jonas Gutierrez
A rather shock depature as no rumours or speculation preceded it, also the fact he's had a fantastic season, but nevertheless, Jonas Gutierrez has left Tyneside today after Newcastle yesterday accepted an £8m bid from Atletico Madrid for the Argentinian winger, who then accepted terms over the phone and has jetted out to the Spanish capital to sign his contract and take his medical. Definitely a clear indication that Newcastle have somebody lined up as a like-for-like replacement.

Newcastle are through to the 4th round of the FA cup as a weakened team fought past a defiant Ipswich at St James' Park. Newcastle's succes just seems to keep going and going. The fourth round draw emerged that Newcastle will travel to Villa Park, it will be the first time that Newcastle have played a cup tie outside of Newcastle.

Newcastle Celebrate after Cisse goalView attachment 231025
This was a competition in which Newcastle hoped to qualify for Europe at the start of the season, but its transpired that they would like this to hopefully accompany a Barclays Premier League trophy come May. Impressive as usual, the Toon pulled out a semi-weakened side which Liverpool were no match for. If reports are to be belived then this will be Mike Williamson' and James Perch's last game for the club as they head to the npower Championship

Papiss Demba Cisse has took his tally to 9 for this season after scoring his 8th and 9th goals against QPR today. The other two goals coming from key men Yohan Cabaye and Fabricio Coloccini, Newcaslte are considered serious title contenders and fans are starting to believe that. Some nay-sayers are still hoping there is still time for it to crumble
