Hi,

I've just completed the season and got 4th place. It's been a successful season, also getting beat 1-0 in the FA Cup Final. However, I had a real chance of winning the title, even leading for the best part of the season, until the end of February where it all went downhill.

It isn't a case of the opposition getting used to my tactics, as I saved three different tactics. However, I don't have complete faith in these tactics. Furthermore, I feel my counter tactic against the big teams isn't too great.

I'm needing to strengthen my tactics for the coming season, especially as I'll be in Europe. I'll be without Lukaku, Deulofeu, Traore and most likely Barry.

I have a budget of ?17.2m. Who do I sign, and what tactics shall I employ?

Cheers
Aidan

Maybe for the counter attacking tactic you should stand off opponents as you play deeper? Hassling the opposition deep in your own half is too risky.

I'd look at Michy Batshuayi for a striker, he has a 6.75 mil release clause, I signed him for Liverpool and he scored 26 goals in 34 apps in his first season. He works well as a DLF or False 9 when you play with inside forwards.

You might be able to get Danny Ings for around 6 mil, although I didn't have much luck with him and sold him the following season to Tottenham for 16 mil.

Other players that might be available for cheap are: Maxi Moralez, Luca Antonelli, Lucas Ocampos (Signed him 3.6mil but was in season 4), Dorin Rotariu, Kasper Kusk (550k release clause) and Gaston Gil Romero.

I would suggest using a treq as your AMC, and DM support instead of defend role. Maybe even push him further up and make him a box to box midfielder. Team instructions are good except you rely to much on counter attacks. I would suggest changing tempo to lower or much lower, and using shorter passing and retain possession. Direct balls will bypass your AMC so he is useless.

Thanks for your player suggestions! A lot of those players are in with a great shout of being signed. Especially Michy Batshuayi.

Appreciate the advice. I am going to make changes. However, I feel like a radical change is needed - changing my whole approach, from direct and fast to short and slow. Is it too risky to change so drastically for pre-season?

No worries mate. Forgot to mention Sadio Mane as well, decent winger that can be picked up for around 3.4 mil.

Is it too risky to completely revamp my tactic?

By the way, is Batshuayi any good at creating? His creativity is 7 but you said he plays well in creative roles.

I wouldn't say it's too risky no, as long as you can get the fluidity close to 100% before the season starts. Just arrange about 8-10 friendlies and set training to tactics only and intensity to very high. I usually play a 4-2-3-1 but in my 4th season with Liverpool I created a 4-4-2 diamond which in 22 league games i've W19 D2 L1, so revamping it can work.

Just checked Batshuayi's record, he actually he only got 4 assists so maybe he'd be better in a different role to a DLF/F9 although he had a good scoring record for a first season.

Salomon Rondon or Carlos Fierro for a striker
Bruma or Insigne as wingers
