Actually this looks a good idea. Using the collective knowledge of the forum members this might actually work or could end up a hilarious failure. Will be interesting the final result and using the tactic.

So the aim is simple really, everyone on FM-Base clubs together to make the ultimate tactic.

Personally I think this should be fun and challenging, everyone gets a say in what should go into the tactic and hopefully the end result should be a superb tactic.

To start it off there is a poll to decide what formation to use.

Not with me it won't. :P

Good idea. Although I must say it's gotta be difficult as different tactics from different managers have different approach to its different modification to suit the different conditions of different leagues, different conditions, and different opponents..

Hmm..

suprised the 4-1-2-1-2 with wide mids isn't in that selection. That formation got me to beat Holland with Scotland XD but still, I do believe this is a good idea :)

So how is this going to exactly work? Everyone makes a tactic and then everyone has to try each others tactics? There will be a lot of people's tactics that don't get tried out.

Well first of all I think we should have many different variations of the tactic e.g. defensive and attacking.

Step 1: Choose the formation

Step 2: Agree the best defensive settings

Step 3: Agree the best midfield settings

Step 4: Agree the best attacking settings(Target man and poacher for example)

Then we shall shall see what happens after that

Well, I know a thing or two about defensive settings as on my saves I always have good defensive records, e.g conceded 40 goals in a season in the Championship with Notts Forest and scored 80.

I personally think a basic 4-4-2 would be good to start with as it's a simple formation, and then maybe we could do this monthly or something and slowly get to more complicated formation where it's harder to balance attack and defence and risk and reward.

Sounds like a decent idea. 4-4-2 is the most simplest formation but i would use it away from home and use a 4-2-4 at home

The problem with 4-2-4 is that a lot of people will struggle to balance attack and defence.

I havent found problems with it. Its just playing more aggressively and pushing the wingers forward to give the strikers more support.

I didn't say you did, but other people will.

Also your not taking the defensive aspects into it there.

Ferguson, Clough, Rijkaard, Koeman, Revie, need i continue sir

Rijkaard didn't play a 4-4-2. Ferguson hasn't played a 4-4-2 for years.

But anyway that's not even the point, the point is different cultures play different formations.

Ferguson hasn't played a 4-4-4 for years because that's not possible ;)

But I get what you mean.

4-4-4, does that include the linesmen, nah i get your point, they play 6-3-1 out in latvia

personally I'm a fan of the 4-1-2-2-1
RB CB CB LB
DM
CM CM
AMC AMC
ST

RB+LB - Push up into RW+LW positions and keep the defense line higher up rather than have them having to use superpace to sprint back to their line.

CBs - Push out wide into RB+LB positions to help cover for the missing Full Backs, only push up in strong attacking moves.

DM - Plays as an Anchor Man, sits inbetween the 2 CBs and uses his strength and pace to stop attacks early on.

CMs - Play powerful, constructive passes towards the lone target man from deep. only shoot if they have a good clear cut opportunity.

AMCs - Push through the oppositions defensive line and support the striker as they work as Inside Forwards, helping the striker with their pace and good passing ability.

ST - A strong Target Man player is useful for this role of play. He either picks up through balls that've been played by the CMs or AMCs or uses his height advantage to get onto the crosses that are drilled in by the Full Backs.

Proper Steel Tactic :D

Ferguson has always denied ever playing it - he says he's always played 4-4-1-1. Which is a fair point from old Whiskeynose.

Erm, how about 1-3-3-3? Let's play total football (H)

Well people the poll results are in! and it looks like its the old school 442 we're using. sorry as well i havent been able to be on ive been working
