Excessive Crossing

Haven't posted on FM-Base since FM14. Anyway, I recently bought FM16, and one thing I've noticed is how often my players will cross as opposed to playing a simple passing game. I've tried going over my instructions and the individual instructions, but to no avail it still happens too often, and I often find myself conceding from misplaced crosses.

Any tips or pointers?
