FC Dallas are a Texas based MLS team who have not had much success in the past however, are developing some of the best players in the MLS being a key part to their growing success. The goal of this save will be to try and bring some trophies back to Dallas and if possible becoming the first MLS team to win the CONCACAF Champions League.

With the save being in the MLS there are a number of oddities that are quite unique to the league so for anyone who hasn't managed in the MLS this is some of the rules FM16 MLS Guide - Rules, Regulations, Trades and Drafts Explained - The Raumdeuter It is for last year but still works.

Key Players

Carlos Gruezo

View attachment 87816
The Ecuadorian Defensive midfielder signed from Stuttgart is one of our three designated players and is more than talented enough to be holding one of those spots. Good at winning the ball back and useful with the ball at his feet he will hopefully be a star for years to come. Only slight issue is he is a part of the Ecuadorian National team so will mis games as the MLS doesn't have international breaks.

Mauro Diaz

View attachment 87815
Signed on a free from River Plate in 2013 Diaz will be the link between midfield and attack with very good technicals and mentals for the league. Slight concern that he picked up two injuries in pre-season, hopefully it just means he has got them out of the way though.

Kellyn Acosta

View attachment 87813
No idea how the first name is pronounced but the versatile young American from the Dallas academy can play left back right back and DM where he will likely play the most due to the strength of our right and left backs. Already with some USA caps he can hopefully stay with the club for years to come.

Matt Hedges

View attachment 87812
Drafted by Dallas from North Carolina Hedges has twice been named in the team of the season and has picked up one cap for the US National Team. A tall centre back he will be hard to beat in the air and can hopefully dominate at the back for us.

Maximiliano Urruti

View attachment 87811
The Argentinian was picked up by Dallas after Portland released him following a poor season where he only scored four times. The talented Argentinian will be out to prove them wrong and with a number of talented strikers competing for one spot he might be out of the team if he doesn't.

Roland Lamah

View attachment 87810
The ex-Swansea and Belgium player joins after a short spell in Hungary and will hopefully be able to shine in the league, basically are only option on the left wing if he fails to play well then we may be forced to play without wingers.

Tactic

View attachment 87806

We lack quality at CM and have an abundance of talent at CM so I decided to go for a 4-2-3-1 DM as the game calls it. The hope is that we can keep it solid at the back and our talented attacking players can grab enough goals for us.

View attachment 87804
I want us to try and dominate the ball and take advantage of the talented players that we have on the wings and at full back.

Pre-Season

View attachment 87801

Not really overly interested in the results of the matches in pre-season however, they are an encouraging sign as we took 5 wins from 5 against fellow MLS sides and struggled much more against the USL sides drawing with Tampa Bay and Rio Grande valley and losing to San Antonio.

Transfers Out

View attachment 87800
A couple of youngsters were loaned out and a couple of players who I didn't rate I simply released. Which you can do without paying them anything in the MLS which is nice, well for me not the players involved.

View attachment 87798
We also traded away two players within the MLS, which the players have no choice about they have to move. Javier Morales was one of our best paid players by far however not even the best player in his position so he went to Colorado for $50,000 in general allocation money. Atiba Hutchinson was a jack of all trades player but, we had to many international players so the St. Kitts and Nevis international left for Kansas City for a free and they promptly reached the same conclusion as me and released him.

Transfers In

We weren't overly busy, all signings had to be from US sides or US nationals as the club had bought all the players from abroad they could this season.

Zach Pfeffer
View attachment 87796The young AMC was released by Colorado and I signed him to replace Morales for about 10% of the cost. A good young player he could possible develop into a first team player, very happy to grab him on a free.

The next two players were both taken in the waiver draft. Basically you have a 28 player squad, of which 8 can be non-american, and anyone outside the squad is put into the waiver draft and if no one claims them then become free agents. As most teams have full squads they couldn't pick players but we had three spare spots so used both out draft picks.

Tim Parker
View attachment 87795Vancouver released the talented American defender so I took him with the first pick, he will be our third choice centre back to begin but could easily move up into the starting pair and at least will provide solid depth in the worst case scenario.

Ben Spencer
View attachment 87794The US under 20 striker was released by Toronto so I picked him up with our second pick, the tall striker will not play a huge role in his first season but, will hopefully develop into a useful option.

Season Preview
View attachment 87793
The bookies have us down for 13th which means they think that we could maybe sneak into the playoffs, six teams from each conference do. The board expects a mid-table finish so they seem to be realistic which is nice. Personally as long as we make the playoffs I will be happy as everything that happens before that is pretty irrelevant when the season is looked back on.

Nice to see a familiar face in the story section this year! Looking forward to this.

Carlos looks an absolute beast at only 20. A little work on strength and he'll be unreal!

Carlos looks an absolute beast at only 20. A little work on strength and he'll be unreal!

Nice to see you back around here as well

Yeah seems like he should be able to dominate the league in a couple of seasons if he develops well

March Update

Like every team we go into the season with high hopes, a strong pre-season against fellow MLS teams leads me to think that we should be able to sneak into the playoffs and when your in there anything can happen.

FC Dallas 3-1 Philadelphia Union

View attachment 87739
Urruti got our and his seasons off to a perfect start as he bagged a first half hat trick for us as we see off Union. He grabbed his first goal after a quarter of an hour, Gruezo intercepted a poor pass and played the ball up to Pfeffer in the centre circle. He played a pass over the top of the defence that Urruti got onto and from a tight angle in the box calmly lifted the ball over the Union goalie to put us ahead. The second goal came from an interception by our other DM Acosta. He won the ball back and played it out wide to Lamah, he played the ball inside to Pfeffer who split the defence with a pass to Urruti who easily beat a defender to get into the box then fired a low shot into the bottom corner. He finished his hat trick after 41 minutes Lamah received a throw in from Maynor Figueroa turned past his man with ease and slipped in a low cross that Urruti poked in at the near post. CJ Sapong pulled a goal back for Union just after the hour as we failed to fully clear a corner and he hit a very well placed shot just inside the post to give the keeper no chance.

Houston Dynamo 1-0 FC Dallas

View attachment 87738The early season optimism doesn't last long as we lose the first Texas Derby of the season to Houston in what was a scrappy game. Figueroa was sent off for a second yellow after a needless trip just after half time and Houston made us pay instantly. The resulting free kick was headed out of the box and Agus their centre back showed his class by firing a volley in off the post. A man down we couldn't create enough to find an equaliser.

FC Dallas 6-2 Montreal Impact

View attachment 87737Urruti again shines as he scores as many goals as he managed in all of last season in one game. After Hedges was blatantly pulled down trying to get onto a corner Urruti got us in front when his poorly hit penalty sent the keeper the wrong way. We were two up after 15 minutes when Gruezo won the ball back and played it back to the keeper. He played it to Acosta who was filling in for the banned Figueroa and simply kicked the ball as far up the field as he could. Lamah ran onto the ball and whipped in a cross that was just to high for Urruti but perfect for Barrios to smash into the roof of the net at the back post. We were three up before the half hour, Zimmermann went in for a loose ball and smashed the ball up the left hand side of the pitch Lamah was in space as his defender had pushed up and waited until a centre back committed to him before getting the ball through Urruti who slipped the ball past the keeper at the near post. Urruti finished off his hat trick after 36 minutes. Lamah intercepted a throw in and played a 1-2 with urruti before darting down the line and whipping in a cross that Urruti headed powerfully past the rooted goalkeeper. Oduro pulled a goal back for Montreal when he played a neat 1-2 30 yards out and then ran into open space before his shot from outside the box somehow beat Seitz. Urruti grabbed his fourth goal after an hour again from the spot his low penalty beating the keeper after he had been tripped in the box. Lamah made it six ten minutes later. Pfeffer played a free kick short to gruezo collected the ball back and then passed to Urruti in the box, with the defence closing him down he squared the ball to Lamah who powered his shot into a pretty open goal just under the cross bar. Oduro pulled another goal back just before the end as he headed in a corner.

D.C. United 0-2 FC Dallas

View attachment 87736
Urruti only bagged the one goal as we grabbed the win away in the nations capital. He opened the scoring after 11 minutes, Grana won the ball back at right back and played the ball up to Barrios who passed to Acosta. He chipped the ball forward to Grana who had continued his run and fired in a low cross that Urruti blasted past the goalkeeper. Acosta doubled our lead just after half time, Hedges won the ball up the pitch and gave the ball to Acosta. He fed Lamah who got into the box out wide and tried to pick out Urruti, his pass was blocked by a defender and fell into the path of Acosta who's powerful shot went in despite the keeper getting a hand to it. Urruti had to go off injured a few minutes later which caused concern.

Fortunately the in form striker won't miss a game despite the concussion that he picked up against D.C.

Table

Other Stuff
View attachment 87733
We manage a 1-2-3 in player of the week after the D.C. game, the haters will say that it was only as it was the only game played that weekend and they would likely be right.

View attachment 87732
Urruti finshes second in player of the month to Giovinco as all three players managed to average two goals a game, with Veron grabbing five in one game.

Transfer News

The squad had one open spot in the roster left I was looking to fill as we also have a lot of spare salary cap money and there is no reason not to spend all of it. I was offered a player by an agent and was about to reject as it would be an international player however, I decided to check and it turned out they were a US citizen as well so could be signed. He accepted the trial offer as I don't trust my scouts and wanted to see if he still looked good.

Drum roll please.....

Ireland's record caps holder and goalscorer ex- a huge number of teams player Robbie Keane is on trial and looks good enough to get the one year deal that he wants

April Update

Keane joins FC Dallas as a one year deal is agreed with an automatic extension if he plays 15 games for us. On the field the team looks to carry on with our good start and the players pick up lots of air miles as we travel to Portland, Vancouver and New York City.

FC Dallas 3-2 Columbus Crew

View attachment 87729Fun fact professional bottler of finals Gonzalo Higuain has an older brother who plays for the Crew who we were just able to beat at home in a close game. Urruti got us off to a god start after 11 minutes, Acosta intercepted a pass from Higuain and passed up the line to Lamah who left 3 players behind him and hit in a cross that seemed to be headed onto Urruti who deflected the ball in and claimed the goal. Gruezo doubled our lead three minutes later, after we had kept the ball outside the Columbus box for about a minute Gruezo decided to end all the passing and cent a nice shot past the keeper. Columbus hit back seven minutes after half time, a long ball was hit forward which Crew won and played the ball wide to Duka and despite his cross being very close to the keeper he didn't move and Finlay had a tap in at the back post. Lamah re-established the two goal lead just after the 70th minute a Pfeffer corner was cleared to him and he beat a player before a pretty weak strike snuck in past the keeper. John Mensah rose highest to head in a Higuain free kick but, we held on for the win.

View attachment 87728

Urruti picked up another minor head injury, hope he didn't plan on becoming a model when he retired.

FC Dallas 3-1 San Jose Earthquakes

View attachment 87727

San Jose fall as we win our first game where Urruti fails to score. Mauro Diaz got us ahead inside two minutes, Urruti chested down a throw on the edge of the box and lofted a pass to Diaz who twisted his body and fired in a powerful volley off the bar, it was an incredible goal. Lamah doubled the lead just after the half hour mark, We had a nice spell of possession after a Gruezo interception and Diaz played the ball up to Lamah just outside the box and he turned his man and let a shot off which the keeper could only palm into the goal to double our lead. We were three up before half time, Diaz whipped in a corner which was headed out of the box, Lamah headed it back in and Barrios took the ball down and as the ball bounced up a little smashed the ball towards goal and left the keeper no chance. Qazaishvili (henceforth known as the Georgian bloke) pulled a goal back in the second half ex-Tottenham man Dawkins laid the ball off to the Georgian bloke and his powerful drive went into the bottom corner. A comfortable enough home win for us.

Portland 1-1 FC Dallas

View attachment 87726We pick up a decent point away to Portland, however in bigger news Urruti seems to be in a goal drought as he has gone 2 games without scoring and picked up another knock. Adi put Portland ahead after 26 minutes, Valeri hit a long ball forward that split the centre backs and Adi slipped the ball through the keepers legs to put us behind. Gruezo hit back midway through the second half, Figueroa won a header to end a counter attack and Lamah beat a man played a 1-2 with Urruti and then fired in a cross. Pfeffer headed the ball down and Gruezo slammed the ball in to earn us a point despite both teams trying to find a winner.

View attachment 87725
Urruti this time manages to injure a different part of his body, I'm just hoping that he doesn't keep collecting knocks.

View attachment 87724
Lamah this times picks up the now obligatory head injury, the NFL uses us as proof that other sports get head injuries to and to look into those ones not the ones in their sport.

FC Dallas 4-1 Sporting Kansas City

View attachment 87721We come off well on top in a top of the table clash in the Western Conference. Urruti ended his mini drought to put us ahead after 33 minutes, Gruezo won the ball up the pitch and drove forward before playing the ball wide to Grana who floated in a cross with his first touch, urruti rose highest at the back post and headed his 10th goal of the season in from close range. Lamah got us two up just before half time, Barrios beat his man on the right and hit in a cross which hit the chest of a defender and Lamah slowed down to fire a first time shot in past the keeper. Lamah added another ten minutes after the break, Pfeffer hit in a corner that Lamah flicked on to the back post. Zimmerman had his shot blocked Ulloa hit the keeper with the rebound before Lamah reacted first to poke the ball into an open goal. Hollingshead made it 4 with a lucky goal as his first shot from a Pfeffer pass was blocked and his second took a massive deflection to beat the keeper. Kansas pulled a goal back soon after with Gerso cutting inside to get onto a Dom Dwyer pass and Seitz couldn't quite push the ball wide of the goal. A very good win for us.

Vancouver 1-1 FC Dallas

View attachment 87723
We take a point back from Canada thanks to Robbie Keane's first goal for the club. Fredy Montero got Vancouver ahead after 17 minutes, Bolanos dribbling past two defenders and his low cross was turned in by Montero. Keane got the equaliser with ten minutes left with our only shot on target, Gruezo intercepted a very poor pass and played the ball wide to Lamah. He played the ball up to Urruti out wide and he squared the ball for Keane and his close range shot was going to hit the keeper in the chest but it hit a defender in the leg first and that was enough to get the ball in and earn us a point.

View attachment 87722
Diaz picks up a small injury in training that will see him miss 2-3 weeks.

New York Red Bulls 2-0 FC Dallas

View attachment 87720

We came off second best by far in a top of the table match against the Red Bulls. Royer had us behind after just three minutes, rising at the near post to head in a corner as we continue to look vulnerable from set pieces. Bradley Wright-Phillips put us two down before half time, a very nice curled through ball from Felipe allowed Wright-Phillips to fire a low finish into the bottom corner. It was a game they dominated and deserved to win.

Table

View attachment 87719We remain top but, have played more games than most teams so a few could overtake us. Despite the loss to Red Bulls it is still a good start to the season for us.

May Update

We head into a challenging first half of the month trying to bounce back from the loss to the Red Bulls to close out last month. We close the month out with a couple of games that should be easier.

Toronto FC 2-1 FC Dallas

View attachment 87671

Toronto have three of the best players in the MLS in their roster and they showed their class as we fell to defeat in Canada. Giovinco had us behind within 5 minutes, Bradley one the ball back for Toronto and after some passing the ball was played through to Giovinco who took a touch and snuck a low finish under the keeper to put us behind. We were two down just after 20 minutes with Giovinco striking again, Giovinco again being played through and he slipped a low finish between the legs of the keepers to put us two down. We hit back seconds later through Urruti, Pfeffer was taken down in the box by Bradley and Urruti converted from the spot. We failed to grab the second goal so fell to a defeat.

FC Dallas 2-1 Portland Timbers

View attachment 87700
We claimed a big win in the Western Conference as we beat Portland in an ill tempered match. Urruti failed to convert from the penalty spot after 11 minutes as we failed to take an early chance. He made up for it by putting us ahead after 34 minutes, Grana won the ball back and hit it long. The ball fell to Diaz and he slipped the ball through to Urruti who played it wide to Lamah, he whipped in a cross and Urruti provided the finish at the near post. Urruti got us two goals ahead just before half time. Hedges played the ball up to Lamah in acres of space and he passed the ball back to Urruti who slammed the ball in. Grana picked up a very harsh second yellow as he jumped for a header at the halfway line. Alvas Powell picked up a throw in took a couple of touches and then hit a strong shot in that Seitz could only push onto the post and the ball bounced in. The ten men held on until Miller tripped Barrios on the edge of the box to give away a free kick and earn his second yellow card. At 10 vs 10 we had no nerves and saw the game out with ease.

FC Dallas 2-0 Seattle Sounders

View attachment 87699

We get another solid win over a strong Western Conference side as Seattle fall to us at the Toyota Stadium. We took the lead after 22 minutes Diaz whipped in a free kick Frei came out to claim the ball and then dropped the ball at Lamah’s feet and he poked the ball into an unguarded net. Our lead was doubled tow minutes later as Parker scored his first FC Dallas goal. Diaz played a free kick short to Gruezo and he passed to Lamah in a lot of space in the box. He ran forward and just before the ball went out for a goal kick pulled the ball across the face of goal and Parker had a simple tap in from close range. Seattle went down to ten men right at the end with Alfaro picking up his second booking. We saw the game out easily enough as we continued our good Western Conference form.

View attachment 87698
Paxton Pomykal a 16 year old from our academy makes his debut and becomes the teams youngest ever player in the process.

View attachment 87697
Looks like he could become a useful option in the middle of the pitch. At 16 I'm hoping that he could add some height as I can't see him winning many headers at 5'7.

New England Revolution 2-0 FC Dallas

View attachment 87696

Our poor away form continued as a struggling New England side recorded a win over us. Ex-Norwich man Kei Kamara put us behind after 70 minutes, finishing well when played in by Fagundez. Koffie got the second after 77 minutes Fagundez passed to him in space in the box. His shot was very poor but somehow snuck in at the near post to consign us to defeat.

View attachment 87695View attachment 87694
We managed to get another head injury as back up keeper Jesse Gonzalez falls victim this time. Mauro Diaz falls victim to another small injury that will see him miss a couple weeks at least.

San Jose 2-6 FC Dallas

View attachment 87693
Lamah and Urruti both score hat-tricks as we emphatically secure a first away win of the season. Urruti got us ahead after just 18 seconds, from kick off the ball was worked to Diaz who played it wide to Barrios who ran down the line and hit in a low cross for Urruti to fire into the roof of the net from close range. Lamah had us two goals ahead inside two minutes, Gruezo played the ball wide to Grana on the right. He pulled the ball back to Barrios in the box and he hit an awful shot that a defender hooked away from goal and into Lamah’s chest and the ball was past the keeper before he could react. Qazaishvali hit back for San Jose 19 seconds into the second half, Alare flicking on Jungwirth’s pass and a low finish made the score 2-1. Urruti got us our two goal lead back just before the hour, Ulloa picked out Barrios in space with a beautiful path and his cross deflected to the feet of Urruti and he fired the ball in. Lamah then grabbed his second just past the hour mark, Gruezo headed a throw in down to Barrios and he hooked the ball towards goal in a cross/shot that Lamah slid in at the back post. Urruti got his hat trick halfway through the second half, Pfeffer got the ball on the edge of our box from a San Jose corner and played it long to Urruti. He played the ball wide to Lamah on the overlap and he ran clear of the defence before squaring the ball to Urruti to score a tap in. Lamah then finished off his hat trick just after the 80th minute, taking the ball of Wynne after a por touch from him and racing down on goal and then firing in low past the keeper. We allowed San Jose to grab a consolation as Davis found space in the box and fired a well struck shot in past Seitz.

Urruti breaks the record for earliest goal in the MLS with his strike after 18 seconds grabbing the record from Giovinco.

June Update

It’s a quiet month as we only have four games, three in the league and one in the U.S. Open cup. Despite the three league games we face three good opponents.

View attachment 87634

Just before our league game with Houston we learned that we should be playing them twice in a row as they would also be our cup opponents and they then somehow manage to delay the match due to international commitments which is annoying as I've had to play games despite missing players.

FC Dallas 1-2 Houston Dynamo

View attachment 87633

Houston become the first team to take points off of us at home as they sneak a lucky win against us. Quioto opened the scoring for them just after half time, his near post header from a free kick left Seitz no chance. Urruti got us level soon after, Seitz collected an over hit pass and hit the ball upfield. Urruti headed it down to Lamah who flew down the wing and hit in a cross. Beasley cleared the cross into Colman and the ball landed at the feet of Urruti who fired the ball in to restore parity. Erick Torres struck the winner just after the hour, Boniek played him in and he took advantage of poor positioning by Seitz to get Dynamo back in front. With 5 minutes left Urruti had a chance to get us a point but saw his penalty to the keepers left not only saved but held meaning he had no chance to grab a rebound. A disappointing loss to our rivals to say the least.

Not sure how they managed to swing this as I have had to cope without some players being away a couple of times but, we will now face Sporting Kansas City next.

Sporting K.C. 0-1 FC Dallas

View attachment 87632

Urruti struck right at the death of this game to get us a well deserved three points and make some amends for his penalty. It looked to be a draw until Acosta won the ball back and played it up the pitch. It was worked to Urruti who played the ball wide to Lamah. As usual he flew passed his man and hit in a good cross that Urruti stooped to head in past the keeper. A 90+2 minute winner in an important game. The goal also sees Urruti tie the record for most goals in a season by a Dallas player despite us only being halfway through the season.

Houston Dynamo 1-0 FC Dallas

View attachment 87631

We go out of the cup early on as we have lost 3 in 3 to Dynamo now with their centre back Agus being man of the match in every game. Just before half time Urruti went off with a knee injury that had me fearing the worst. Tomas Martinez scored the only goal of the game after 71 minutes, after he played a nice pass to get the ball out wide it was crossed in and Elis headed it down for him to smash in from close range. Fortunately the board don’t care about the cup so they don’t mind us going out.

View attachment 87630

Urruti will only miss one match as we have a small break which is a relief. Robbie Keane will lead the line in his absence.

FC Dallas 1-1 Real Salt Lake

View attachment 87629

A disappointing home draw to a struggling RSL caps off a poor month capped with the physio’s best mate Diaz picking up another small knock that will see him miss 2-3 weeks. Keane got us ahead just before half time, Gruezo drew a centre back to him with a great run Keane filled in the space got the ball in the box and then fired a high shot over the onrushing keeper and in. With only 5 minutes left RSL struck back as Valencia got past a defender and then with the keeper charging out floated a beautiful chip over his head and just under the bar to level the game. Another blow in a month full of late action.

NACL Draw

View attachment 87627We are in the North American Champions League group stage. 8 groups of three will be arranged with only the top team going through. Every team is seeded and after the first seeds are draw there are only three teams I don't want to draw. Vancouver who are actually third seeds but put in the second group for some reason, Saprissa of Costa Rica and Olimpia of Honduras.

We avoid them all and the biggest challenge of the group should be trying to spell the name of the team for Guatemala, and not getting anyone arrested in Belize by biased police.

July Update

We face a very busy month and a key part of the season as we play six games and I also get a bonus match to take charge of thanks to the weirdness of the MLS.

FC Dallas 4-1 Orlando City

View attachment 87604
Our independence Day match against Orlando is one sided as Kaka missed out for Orlanda as he is recovering from a hip injury. Urruti got us off to a good start after 7 minutes, a long ball was played up to Lamah who ran past his defender and his low cross was turned in by Urruti. He grabbed another goal after a quarter of an hour, the Orlando goalie took a free kick quite far up the pitch Ulloa headed the ball up to Urruti who took a couple of touches before firing a long shot into an open goal. After 20 minutes we were three goals up as Pfeffer hit a curling free kick in the top corner. Will Johnson pulled a goal back after 35 minutes from the penalty spot after Figueroa pushed an Orlando player trying to get on the end of a free kick. Johnson was sent off after an hour for a second yellow after he tripped Lamah out wide. Pfeffer scored a second goal after 71 minutes, Hollinghead whipped in a cross and Barrios headed the ball down for Pfeffer who fired the ball in on the half volley.

San Jose 0-0 FC Dallas

Another disappointing away result for us as we dominate the game against San Jose but, fail to get a goal and so only get one point against a San Jose team in poor form.

Seattle 0-2 FC Dallas

View attachment 87602
We claim a good 2-0 win away to Seattle who have been underperforming so far this season and may miss the playoffs, despite missing first choice DM's Gruezo and Ulloa. Barrios got us in front after 22 minutes, Lamah got the ball in the box from Hollingshead and squared the ball to Urruti. He laid the ball off to Barrios took a touch and then hit a low shot in past the keeper at the near post. Pfeffer grabbed a late second goal for us to seal the thee points, Frei could only get a hand to his free kick as Pfeffer becomes first choice free kick taker.

FC Dallas 2-0 Chicago Fire

Two second half goals get us past a poor Chicago Fire side and three more points as we are beginning to re-find our form. Ulloa got us in front after 66 minutes, Lamah whipped in a cross that was hooked out of the box. It was cleared to Pfeffer who played the ball back into Urruti. He pushed the ball back to Ulloa who fired a powerful drive in from outside the box to get us ahead. Urruti grabbed us a second goal five minutes later, Lamah was played in behind his defender and he played the ball in to Urruti who hit the ball low into the goal.

Lamah got us a lead after 13 minutes, we had a nice spell of possession cut inside and was able to place his shot out of the reach of the keeper and inside the far post. Pfeffer doubled our lead after 70 minutes scoring against his old team. A Lamah cross was headed out of the box and Pfeffer took one touch before hitting a powerful low shot just inside the far post. Colorado pulled a goal back soon after, Alan Gordon was played in on goal and made no mistake firing high into the goal past Seitz.

FC Dallas 3-1 Vancouver
View attachment 87598
We take 3 points from a straightforward match against a Vancouver side who have been struggling this season. Urruti got us in front after 16 minutes, a quick counter attack from a Vancouver free kick saw Ulloa play the ball wide to Lamah, who might be the quickest player in the league, and Urruti was able to just reach out and poke the ball into the back of the net. Our lead was extended just after half time, Parker flicked on a corner from Pfeffer and Hedges volleyed in at the back post. Montero pulled a goal back for Vancouver as Grana under hit a header back to the keeper which Montero got to first rounded the keeper outside of the box and tapped the ball into an open goal. Urruti grabbed our third goal with 15 minutes left to wrap up the win, scoring with a low shot after being played n on goal by Pfeffer.

We return to top spot with New York slipping up as they have a run of draws, they could still go top if they win the game in hand though. We look like we should make the playoffs although it is hard to predict when as we have played three games more than some of the teams fighting to get in.

Transfer News

View attachment 87599
Figueroa leaves for New York, I had high hopes for the Ex-Wigan man but he played poorly and as he takes up 1 of 8 international player slots I decided to try and get rid of him and Red Bulls took him which means that 3 of their 8 international players are left back.

View attachment 87596
Any speculation of Urruti leaving to LA is ended as we tie him down to a three year deal that seems him earn $325,000 more a year, not to bad for the top scorer in the league and only a $75k raise for the year.

View attachment 87591
He's my third choice striker and keeps bugging me for games and as no one wanted him permanently I accepted a loan offer from PEC Zwolle where hopefully he can star.

MLS All Star Game

Like every American league there is an all star game where a squad of MLS players will take on a team in pre-season in a friendly with a trophy for the winner, and likely fireworks.

View attachment 87595
Thanks to my work with Dallas I am given the job and am not allowed to say no.

View attachment 87594
We only get two players in despite leading the league but, I don't mind as it is a pointless extra game. Some very good players to manage though as we take on Caen in Ohio.

View attachment 87593
With us being in the middle of the season none of the players are very fit so I just put out the fittest line up I can and make sure everyone gets at least a couple of minutes with the subs.

View attachment 87592
We lose on penalties as an error by Hamid allows Caen's only shot on target to go in. Blanco headed in an equaliser and the score ended level so there were spot kicks. Howard got no where near any penalties as Adi and Pirlo get their's saved to give Caen the trophy.

August Update

We only have three MLS games thanks to an international break but, we do kick off in the NACL with two matches that I will rotate the squad for what should be easy wins.

FC Dallas 3-2 Sporting K.C.

View attachment 87506
We looked to be cruising to an easy win at 3-0 up until a red card let Sporting back into it and we only just held on for the win. We lead after just over 10 minutes had gone in the game, Lamah played a long ball up to Urruti who ran out wide and then passed across the face of the goal for Barrios to poke the ball in from close range. We doubled our lead three minutes later, Hedges flicked on a corner and Parker powered a header over the man on the line. Pfeffer curled in a free kick three minutes later as we took a seemingly unassailable lead. Ulloa picked up two booking in 8 minutes to get sent off in the 37th minute to give Sporting a chance to get back into the game. They got one back not long after half time, Gerso whipped in a cross Seitz made a good save but Mustivar was on hand to turn in the rebound. Sporting grabbed a second goal back with just under 20 minutes left, Dwyer playing in Zusi who slipped his low shot under Seitz. We held firm though to win the three points over a good Kansas City side but, it should have been easier.

View attachment 87505
I had been considering changing GK's as Seitz has been poor and my back up seems decent so this makes up my mind, I will look for another GK though as I now only have one.

FC Dallas 3-1 Suchitepequez

View attachment 87504
A rotated side recorded an easy enough win over our main group rivals as we get off to a good start in the NACL. We got the first goal after 37 minutes, Keane played the ball wide to Cannon and his powerful cross was diverted into his own goal by Ramirez. Keane doubled our lead a minute later, Gruezo headed a poor clearance towards Keane who took a touch and then smashed a powerful volley that left the keeper no chance. Barrios grabbed a third after 70 minutes to kill off any lingering fears, Keane finding him in space in the box and his finish squeezing past the keeper to end up in the back of the net. We let in a lot consolation as Godoy scored a nice header. There was also time for a late red card as a poor slide tackle saw Diaz get his second yellow.

Real Salt Lake 1-1 FC Dallas

View attachment 87504
We again drop points from a missed penalty late on as we can only take a point back from Salt Lake. Gruezo gave us a very early lead, Keane played a poor ball up the field but, pressure from Lamah forced the keeper to rush the kick from wide in the box and it fell to Gruezo 30 yards out and he was able to keep his volley under the bar and put us ahead after 42 seconds. We didn’t hold the lead for very long as Salt Lake were level before the 5th minute, Movsisyan heading into an open goal after Gonzalez came for and failed to collect a cross. With ten minutes left we got a penalty and Barrios stepped up. His penalty to the keepers left was pushed onto the post and the keeper dived on the loose ball just before he could put in the rebound. All in all a poor trip to Utah.

Police United 0-4 FC Dallas

View attachment 87503
A rotated side easily wins against the part timers, with Gruezo a goal from a hat trick I played him up front, where he is actually classed as competent, in the hopes he could get a hat trick but, he didn’t quite manage. Keane got us in front after a quarter of an hour, Barrios going on a nice run and whipping in a good cross for Keane to prod in from close range. Pfeffer doubled our lead ten minutes later, Grana hitting in a cross the bounced around the box until Pfeffer fired it past the keeper. Gruezo made it three 5 minutes before half time, a blocked shot from a corner fell to him 20 yards out and his shot took two massive deflections to go in and he somehow got credit for it. He got his second with half an hour to go, Akindele passing to him in the box and he hit a precise effort inside the far post.

View attachment 87502
Joe Bendik was a free agent and better than both goalkeepers I already have so I picked him up on a free, I will still give Gonzalez a fair chance to prove he can be number 1 though.

Houston Dynamo 1-3 FC Dallas

View attachment 87498
We finally record a win over our Texas rivals as Gruezo seems to be finding his scoring boots all of a sudden. After 28 minutes Gruezo blocked a cross then hit the ball long, Urruti brought it down and played it wide to Lamah. A defender got a toe on the pass and it bounced off Lamah’s chest and fell to Ulloa who took a touch then fired a shot just inside the post and just out of reach of the keeper to give us the lead. Gruezo was next to score just over ten minutes later, Pfeffer won the ball back for us and got it up to Urruti as players streamed forwards on the counter to help him. He got past couple of players and drew the last defender before passing to Gruezo who calmly lifted the ball over the keeper to give us a two goal lead. Urruti got a goal to reward all his hard work after an hour, the diminutive Barrios left his man behind on the right wing and swung in a cross that Urruti volleyed in at the near post. Again we conceded a consolation goal as Houston scored with a minute left, Taylor scoring a good low shot after a well worked free kick routine.

View attachment 87497
Urruti certainly seems willing to put his head in where it may get hurt as he picks up another small head injury.

September Update

We have four MLS games this month as the Regular season draws to an end and just the one game in the NACL this month as Police United come up to Dallas.

FC Dallas 1-1 Portland Timbers
View attachment 87441
Urruti grabs another goal as Portland continue to surely regret letting him leave, an alright point for us against a good Portland side. We took the lead just before half time, Hollingshead just hit a long ball up the line and Lamah ran onto the ball ahead of his defender. His cross was headed out of the box and Pfeffer headed the ball back in the box, Ridgewell missed a simple header and Urruti took advantage to volley past the keeper from close range. Portland hit back after 75 minutes, Mattocks played Mapp in out wide and he played the ball across the box to Adi, he laid the ball off to Asprilla who hit a low finish past Gonzalez at the near post. Only one point out of a game we dominated.

View attachment 87440
We earn ourselves a spot in the playoffs, if we don't finish top two in the conference and get a bye for the wild card games I will be disappointed.

FC Dallas 1-2 Colorado Rapids

View attachment 87438

A disappointing loss at home as Colorado score a winner despite only having ten men on the pitch. Kevin Doyle got Colorado off to a great start with a goal after two minutes, Serna hit in an early cross Gonzalez came out to get the cross and Doyle got to it first and slipped the ball past Gonzalez. Colorado went down to ten men in the 70th minute, Hairston sent off for and handball on a long ball up to Lamah. Pfeffer scored against his old club four minutes later, Ulloa won the ball back up the pitch and played the ball wide to Lamah, he got into the box and his pull back hit a heel and fell to Pfeffer and he hit a strong daisy cutter past Howad in the Colorado goal. We got hit on the counter soon after looking for a winner, Colorado hit a long ball up to Doyle who ran down the pitch and then squared the ball for Desna to fire in a low shot from just outside the box. Disappointing to lose when Colorado score their two shots on target.

View attachment 87437
Many rude words entered my head when I saw this piece of news, Urruti will miss 2 weeks with a knee injury. Although it could have been far worse given where the injury was.

NYCFC 1-5 FC Dallas

View attachment 87435

Who needs the league's top scorer, not us as we dish out a hammering to Pirlo and Villa’s side with a good performance in New York there was also a change in goal as Bendik comes in following some poor performances form Gonzalez. Barrios got the first goal of the game after 27 minutes, Diaz saw a corner cleared back to him and his next cross was headed in by the 5’4 Barrios who somehow won the header. Diaz got us two goals up just before half time, firing in a free kick that Johnson couldn’t get his hand on. Keane made it 3 soon after half time, we played the ball up quickly to Keane to start a counter attack, he played the ball back out wide to Barrios who sped down the right wing. He hit in a low cross and Keane powered a low shot in past the keeper. David Villa pulled a goal back for NYCFC around the 80th minute, Moralez playing him in on goal lead to the inevitable outcome of Villa scoring. Lamah hit back almost instantly to restore the three goal lead, Akindele was found in space on the right hand side of the box and he chipped a ball up to the back post and Lamah headed the ball back across goal and in. Keane wrapped up the win with our 5th goal of the game, Keane received the ball in the box from Ulloa played a 1-2 with Lamah and then hit a low shot past the keeper and into wrap up a hammering.

FC Dallas 4-0 Police Utd

View attachment 87434

Gruezo hits another brace and as I was considering whether to play up front to get a hat trick he had to go off with a foot injury. We were in front after 3 minutes, Pfeffer had the ball in space in the box and picked out the run of Gruezo who from near the penalty spot hit a low first time shot to get us in front. We doubled the lead three minutes later, Zimmermann flicking on a corner and Parker headed it in at the back post. After 20 minutes we had another corner, this one was cleared to Gruezo who took a couple of touches and then hit a powerful shot into the top corner. It was about the last action he had in the match as he went off injured. Barrio wrapped up the win with the 4th goal before half time, Pfeffer laid the ball of to Barrios and his weak shot would likely have been saved by a pro goalkeeper but was able to sneak in past the Police Utd keeper to round off an easy win.

View attachment 87433
Again an annoying injury but it could have been far worse as he should be back in enough time for the playoffs which is what really matters.

Real Salt Lake 0-3 FC Dallas
View attachment 87431
We finish off a mixed month with a good win away in Salt Lake City. We got the first goal just before half time, Grana intercepted a clearance and a nice couple of passes got the ball to Keane on the edge of the box, he was able to turn and placed his shot just out of reach of Nick Rimano to get us in at half time with a lead. We got a second soon after half time with a quick counter attack. An RSL free kick was headed away and Barrios ran onto the ball and sprinted forwards, he went out wide as players ran up the middle flew past a defender and over hit a cross to Lamah, his cross was more accurate and Diaz poked it in from close range to double our lead. Grana picked up his first FC Dallas goal late on to round off the win, after a couple of blocked shots in the box Ulloa passed back to him and he hit low shot just inside the post to make it a memorable first goal for us.

View attachment 87430
The win means that we will finish at worst second in our conference and we can skip the first round of the playoffs which is nice as they are one off games where anything can happen.

Table

View attachment 87429
We sit one point ahead of Red Bulls overall with three games left, we play LA twice and I want to win both of them so we can put them out of the playoffs as despite them having a poor season they still have a number of good players who if they find form can beat anyone in the league.

NACL

Forgot to screenshot it but Police Utd have played all 4 games and lost all four so our match in Guatemala basically becomes a second leg tie of our 3-1 home win as head to head decides who goes through. I expect that to be irrelevant though.

Transfer News

Despite only having about 5 matches left the transfer window is open and so I took advantage and spent some of the general allocation money, $150k made it's way to New York as we take a young prospect from Red Bulls.

View attachment 87428
Arun Basuljevic joins after being unhappy at New York over lack of play time, with a lack of fit DM's I am using a CM for a few games. However, I will look to convert him into an AMC so that we can make the most of him. A decent pick up for such a small outlay.

In other news Keane hit the 15 appearances needed to extend his contract by a year.

October Update

We finish up the group stages of the NACL and the MLS meaning that we will be heading into knockout football in November.

FC Dallas 4-1 LA Galaxy

View attachment 87392
We start of the month with a good win over a Galaxy side who look set to miss out on the playoffs. Zardes gave Galaxy the lead after 5 minutes, he was found in space in the box and fired a low shot in past Bendik to put Galaxy ahead. Pfeffer grabbed the equaliser on the half hour, Barrios played him in on the counter. Pfeffer hurdled a tackle and slipped the ball between the keeper’s legs to level. We got ahead just after half time, Barrios passed the ball back to Grana and he floated in a cross from deep that Lamah cushioned into the back of the net to get us ahead. We were two goals up with twenty minutes left, Pfeffer chipped a free kick into the box and Zimmermann rose highest and headed just inside the far post. Urruti marked his return to the team with a goal just before the end of the match, Urruti picked up the ball with his back to goal on the halfway line and played it wide to Lamah. He raced down the wing and whipped in a cross that Urruti volleyed in. Good to hopefully get him back in form before the playoffs.

View attachment 87390
We break the record for most wins with three regular season games and the playoffs still to come which is impressive.

View attachment 87391
Lamah is injured during training, but we are lucky and he won't miss any of the playoff games so it isn't overly important.

FC Dallas 3-0 Seattle

View attachment 87395
Three first half goals saw us record a straightforward win over Seattle and Gruezo make his return from injury. We were ahead after 15 minutes, Pfeffer curling a free kick into the top corner form 25-30 yards out. Gruezo’s goal scoring touch continued despite his injury as he grabbed a second, Urruti whipped in a cross that was deflected and fell to Gruezo who hit a powerful drive past the keeper. We scored a third goal with in a minute, Pfeffer and Barrios played a 1-2 to get Pfeffer in the box and he passed to Urruti who placed his effort out of reach of the keeper. Another good win that was also injury free just as importantly.

Despite an early red card for the Guatemalan side we had to wait a long time to get the first goal but, it opened the floodgates. Diaz was sent off for a poor slide tackle on Urruti and his second yellow card in as many minutes. It took us half an hour from then to break the deadlock, a free kick was half cleared and Diaz played the ball wide to Lamah who fired a low shot across goal that Barrios poked in at the back post. He had a second three minutes later, his penalty was saved but he was on hand to fire in the rebound. Urruti continued his return from injury with another goal after 70 minutes, Lamah was found by Pfeffer on the counter and was able to run unopposed from the halfway line to the edge of the box where he crossed to Urruti. His volley hit the post but, fired in the rebound. Lamah scored a late goal to end the group stage with a big win, Zimmermann hit a long ball up to Diaz who took it down with a beautiful touch and flew past his man to bear down on goal. He squared the ball to Reid who passed on the chance to score his first senior goal by passing to Lamah who took a touch and then blasted the ball in. An easy enough win to see us through the group stage with 4 wins from 4.

Never in any doubt that we get through which is the minimum that could have been expected. Hope to avoid the Mexican teams in the quarter final draw.

LA Galaxy 3-4 FC Dallas

View attachment 87393
We end the season with an entertaining win over LA Galaxy to confirm that they will miss out on the playoffs. Mendiola opened the scoring after 37 minutes firing in from a Husidic cut back. Pfeffer ensured that we went into half time level however, Hollingshead passing to Barrios who played him in on goal. The keeper got a shin to the shot, but it just snuck inside the post. We were back behind after 53 minutes, Joao Pedro was heavily involved in a nice passing move that he ended with a finish from inside the box that clipped the back edge off the post on it’s way in. We were level again in less than two minutes, Lamah’s defender left him to press the ball and could only watch as it was chipped over him and Lamah ran onto it. He took a touch and whipped in a cross that Urruti side foot volleyed past the keeper from close range. We took the lead for the first time on the hour mark, Parker hit a long ball wide to Lamah who got past two players and hit in a cross that the keeper came for. Urruti reached it first and fired into an open goal to put us 3-2 up. This time LA were the ones to hit back quickly, a quick counter attack was finished when Alessandrini’s pass took a deflection and fell to Gallego who fired home easily. Michael Barrios popped up with the winner after 68 minutes, Urruti played Lamah in on goal and his shot was tipped onto the post and Barrios reacted fastest to fire in the loose ball.

I’m happy to see RSL out, who we would have played had they won, as we seemed to struggle against them and instead we will face San Jose over two legs who I feel we did better against.

San Jose vs FC Dallas

As we are away my main priority is to avoid a very bad result although an away goal would be handy.

View attachment 87374

We go into the game with the usual formation and will have to watch out for Qazaishvili and Wondolowski up front who carry a threat. While our four attacking players form by far the key part of our goal threat.

Kick off

San Jose press forwards early and their cross into the box is headed out to Grana. He plays the ball up to Barrios on the halfway line. Colvey tackled him after a 30 yard run and the ball fell into the path of Barrios and he kept running with it. He whipped a cross into the box and Urruti was on hand to volley it. The ball hit the post and rolled away from goal before being cleared.

8th minute: Alashe won the ball back from Gruezo and played the ball up to Wondolowski. He squared the ball to Jungwirth and he hit a long ball up to Qazaishvili which put him in on goal. He got into the box with three defenders pressuring him and got a shot away. Bendik was able to easily hold the shot as the chance goes begging.

25th Minute: San Jose have a free kick out wide in the Dallas half. Salinas hit the ball into the box. Bernardez made a good run and rose high, his header was powerful and Bendik dived in vain as San Jose took the lead.

San Jose 1-0 FC Dallas

San Jose 1-0 FC Dallas

Second Half Kick off

70th Minute: Bendik picks up a header back from Acosta. Bendik punted the ball long, Dawkins won the header and it went right to Zimmermann who volleyed the ball forward. Cummings was up the pitch and the long ball put Urruti in on goal, under pressure he was pushed a bit wide and his low shot was pushed behind for a corner which was claimed by Bingham.

We failed to win in a game despite having four times as many shots and fives times as many on target 21 and 10 respectively but, failed to score. We will have to win in Dallas to get into the next round and by more than one goal if San Jose score due to the away goals rule.

One thing I forgot to say last time is how the away goals rule works, it doesn’t count after extra time only after the end of the two full matches. So if both sides score a goal in extra time it will be penalties.

San Jose vs FC Dallas Leg 2

With the loss 1-0 in San Jose we will have to win at home in Dallas to get through and if San Jose score we will have to win by two.

Despite the loss the same team takes the field for us looking to overturn the disappointing loss in California.

Kick off

3rd Minute: Hedges wins the ball off of Jungwirth and passes it up to Pfeffer. The ball goes to Gruezo who played it wide to Barrios. He fired the ball across the pitch to Lamah, he played the ball back inside to Urruti to put him one on one with the keeper. This time Urruti made no mistake taking a touch to control the ball and firing a low left footed shot past the keeper.

FC Dallas 1(1-1)0 San Jose

We quickly erase San Jose’s lead at home and can hopefully push on to go ahead soon.

21st Minute: Godoy sends a long clearance up the pitch and Wondolowski takes the ball down and runs at the Dallas back line. With no support he jinked past two defenders to get into the box but, his shot was lacking power and Bendik had a simple save from a potentially dangerous situation.

25th Minute: FC Dallas are pressing high up the pitch and Hedges intercepts a clearance in the San Jose half, he plays the ball up to Lamah who passed to Gruezo 30 yards out. Gruezo took the ball forward into the box but was forced a bit wide by a defender. He goes for an inventive chip that has the keeper back tracking but just floats over the bar and onto the roof of the net.

Half Time

The tie is level on aggregate, the only other excitement before half time is a couple of bookings and Simon Dawkins has to be taken off injured for San Jose.

Second Half Kick Off

48th Minute: Wondolowski presses forward but, is tackled by Ulloa who instantly hits a long ball for Urruti who is played onside by a lazy left back. Urruti took a couple of touches and was forced a bit wide but, still got off a good shot that the goalkeeper blocked with his legs.

51st Minute: Ulloa wins the ball back for us with a good tackle on Hyka. He pushed up with the ball and then played it inside to Pfeffer 30 yards out, he squared the ball to Gruezo who pushed forwards. He had a shot from the edge of the box and it took a pretty big deflection to have the goalkeeper diving the wrong way as the ball floated right into the centre of the goal.

FC Dallas 2(2-1)0 San Jose

We have a lead but, if San Jose score they will be back in front so we have to keep our focus.

80th Minute: Pfeffer stands over a corner for FC Dallas, his flat corner is flicked on by Hedges and Zimmermann arrives at the back post to volley the ball in.

FC Dallas 3(3-1)0 San Jose

A goal that surely sees us into the next round with just ten minutes left in the game San Jose need two goals.
