Would probably be best for him to retire on a high note instead of staying in the game. Just my thoughts....
 
True, but one is a very good player, the other is by far the most prolific fullback of all time.

You can name 50 or so central midfielders that you could argue were better than Scholes. No one even comes close to the genius that was Maldini. I shed a tear when he finally retired, that's how awesome he was.

You could also find 50 of the world's best midfielders and say Scholes is/was as good as any of them. Like has been said, Zidane said he was one of the best he ever played against, coaches like Lippi have said the same thing.
 
I'd agree with what Micky said, retire at your peek.
