Hi guys, I think this is my first post despite playing FM for many years, thanks in advance for any assistance.

I have finally got round to playing this year's edition and have just completed my first season with Arsenal. Can't post screenshots right now.

As stated, I am arsenal. So far, my wage bill has increased to £3.4 mil with a budget of £2.8 mil.

My only signing so far is Griezmann @ £190k per week with no ridiculous bonuses.

Have cleared the dead wood on high wages (Walcott out full wages paid by buying club etc).

Top additions fist season are Nainggolan, Icardi, Adrien Silva and Hazard. Earning £780k between them weekly, supplemented by selling players like for like (value increase in wages granted, but possible with initial budget).

Was 100k under wage budget before new season started. I understand loan players have come back but even with them gone I'm shafted. Have £35 mil left to spend, can't even offer Berahinio £10k a week.

Is this a bug, or am I missing something on this year's FM?

Once again, no one has ridiculous bonuses, I keep my negotiations under control with relegation release clauses etc.

it's not a bug. In my southampton career, the FFP rules stated that your FFP Wage limit wont be any more than 7m more than you were spending in the previous year. So if your wages were 120m and your limit was 200m. In the next season, your limit will go down to 127m. I dont know if this is 7m for all prem clubs, or if its more for larger clubs, but it will be the same kind of ruling. This is annoying because it limits the amount of wages you can offer when bringing in new players. However this will gradually go up throughout the season, so although you're failing FFP now, you should be ok by the end of the season

Thanks for the reply. With that being the case, should you negotiate existing contracts much sooner? I usually wait until I'm notified that they have 12 months remaining. Ozil and Sanchez take up a chunk of that £7 mil alone.

In one of my saves with Man Utd I spent the whole season nearly failing FFP for the league (European games was a different matter) but come the end of the season when prize money, sponsorship money, plus getting rid of a couple of players (those who weren't pulling their weight due to age/lack of ability) I ended up well within the required amount. Don't panic too much. I do however, recommend getting rid of any wage increases (annual or promotion/competition based) when negiotiating any contracts.

Yeah I think it's a good idea to do any new contracts before the season ends, so that it adds onto your current season total, which will make your next season total bigger

Thanks for the feedback guys, I had never encountered this problem in previous editions. Makes the game slightly more difficult which is good. Usually with big clubs I get bored three seasons in as I have pretty much signed anyone I want to. Had to start again, despite having the cash to sign players, I couldn't offer anyone a contract what so ever and had only strengthened with one player.

I think the strategy this time round, is to max out my wages in the first season and clear out the deadwood pre-second season. Plus taking Andyplatt's advice.

The FFP has definitely been tightened up in this edition mind you just wait until Brexit hits. Then you will have a challenge even with the bigger clubs especially with a hard brexit!
