Hello every buddy.

Yesterday I fell upon a FM question. My first action was Google, but no good. Then i wrote to FIFA directly whom decided that a link to there useless FAQ/Document page was enough of an answere.

My question now is. When a player has dual nationality in FM, after making a First team National debut the player is locked to that team, even if the match played is a friendly.

In real life however, i think to remember that some player have actually changed national team after a Friendly match for a country.

I know that sometimes, FM locks a player to a nation after the player has played for U teams. Which is not how it works in real life.

Does anyone know the rules?

What players have changed nationality after playing a friendly?

Once you play for your country you cannot change unless it is U21 or lower.

I am led to believe that after 3 full squad selections, you may not change nationality. Higuain had 2 for France if I am correct and was very nearly called up for a 3rd but was advised to play for the Argies instead.

I think he may be thinking of players ages ago playing for two differnet countrys.
I think Ferenc Puskas changed to spain after a while didnt he

Even then, you must hold a passport for the other nationality at the time of playing.

Hence the Mikel Arteta situation..

Dejan Stankovic has been to the world cup three times, with a DIFERENT TEAM :O every time.

yeah but Bosnia-serbia is practically the same country as serbia

I know that there are players in history how has played for different nations. In the old days, you could change if you wanted to, as long as you had a passport to another nation.

But I have a faint memories of some players, who's names I do not remember, who changed after friendly matches. If only I could remember their names.

There seems to be no clear answer. I believe that after a friendly match, you cannot change national team. But I am searching for historic events where it did happen and the actual FIFA rules.

No. It was the same team, just with a different name.. He didn't change nationality.

i think tyron mears played for Jamaica but can still play for england irl :S

It seems to be really hard to find conclusive rules anywhere. Been searching for two days now and there is nothing official really.

Maybe that's why FIFA's answer was just a link to there impossible to find anything useful database. Because they don't have anything written down in form of rules or procedures.

But I thank for all the quick responses I got here. I will keep looking around the net. I cannot believe that it is so hard to find.

Tyrone Mears thought he could play for Jamaica however after appearing for them in a friendly (I think) they found out that he wasn't actually of Jamaican descent.
