I've done a couple of quick searches & not found nothing on this topic. So if there is one I've missed, then I'm sorry (A)

I was just thinking this through before, the kind of things that I do, when I take over a club, on my first day. If it be a first day on a new game or a first day in the middle of a season if I decide to take up a new job etc...

The usual first things I do when taking over at a new club is to work out a formation base that I will be trying to build on & around, 442, 451, 433 or whatever. Something that I know will bring the best out of the players at the current team & try to minimize their weaknesses, giving me a base I like to think sets me up for the first transfer window on what players I am looking for, going to sell etc...

Second thing is pretty simple, training, assign the right schedules to the right players. Maybe do some retraining, e.g. A DRC who's natural at CB I will ALWAYS add the RB to his training, just incase the worst happens & he has to play there for a few games in the season or just maybe because he's much better at RB than his preferred role. So would also put him in a fullback kind of trainging schedule. That's all I gotta say about that.

After training, I tend to do a few simple things as in removing all searches from scouts, as I like to assign which ever scout(s) to maybe the world, UK & Ireland, South America or what places in the world I feel would be beneficial for the team, also helps with the coverage the board allow. I always have one scout with a high judging ability, potential ability & tactical knowledge, decent determination also comes in handy. If I'm missing any scouts of this calibre, I search for what I need. Every team usually has a **** few scouts with hopeless stats, if they're on a longish term deals I find offering them new contracts for either 1 or 2 years they accept most times, then I offer mutual termination, this can come in handy when saving a few quid too. When I have my limit on scouts & they're assigned to their respective areas to scout that's when I move onto the coaches & physios.

Now, when I get to the physios it's a pretty simple straight forward task, big clubs allow 2 maybe 3 per team & smaller clubs usually 1 or 2. If the club I'm at have an abundance of physios that are all worthy of keeping their job, I just tend to offer them new contracts, sometimes maybe sacking the few that are ****. If they're all rubbish & on long term deals, I do the usual trying to get them to accept shorter deals, makes it abit cheaper when it comes to axing them! Then the usual quick search for the amount of physios I need with the correct attributes.

When I get to the coaches, I break them into 2 sections. Youth & First Team coaches. In my opinion, I don't see the point in having a coach train both your first team & the kids. Because I like to think if they concentrate on one aspect, then they get a better job done. Same goes for fitness coaches & goalie coaches, if my board allow me to sign quite alot of coaches, I think that 1 goalkeeping coach & fitness for first team & 1 for the kids seems to help. I only tend to do this though if I'm in charge of a bigger club, because smaller clubs usually allow much smaller numbers in coaches.

First team coaches & youth coaches, when sorting through, I only keep the good ones & give them new deals. Then do the usual new contract to the **** ones on longish deals then sack them. The coaches who are just "coaches", who work with both only tend to accept deals as a coach or first team coach, never as a youth coach, which is kind of expected because I know I'd rather be a first team coach than a youth coach, so providing they meet the criteria I need to improve my players, they usually join me in coaching the first team.

With spaces left most times to fill out my coaching staff, I try to get the best I can find through stats filtering, whether it be an attacking coach my first team are lacking or a tactical coach both my youth & first team are both lacking. I always use the stats filtering, reputation doesn't seem to make a difference providing they got the right stats & mental stats to pump the stars up in my training section on FM. The only few differences I have when it comes to selecting youth & first team are things like, "working with youngsters" I try to get that at least 15+ for the kids, with the first team maybe only 10+ because by the time most players are usually ready for a good solid 30+ game league season, maybe with the added games of European football, international friendlies (which I only let them do 45 mins at all times!) & qualifiers I like to have them maybe abit older than late teens. I also like to have each coach with at least 10 discipline, if they do or don't I'm not that fussed for the first team, but it's a must in my opinion for the kids.

Moving on to the most influential person you can have in your back room staff, the assistant. Everybody needs one. He's your best pal on the game, the better he is, the better I usually tend to do, or at least to think I can do! Providing my coaches, both youth & first team are pretty decent, I don't really mind if his coaching stats are pretty poor, I use him more for player reports, tactical advice on the team screen & things like that. If I take over a side with a good assistant he usually stays on a new deal or if he's **** I do the whole contract thing over again! Now if he's got poor judging stats for my players & **** tactical knowledge, but a few decent coaching stats or he's a good all round coach I give him the chance to be a youth or first team coach. Usually depeding how good my manager rating, this gets rejected so I just get shut! The main stats I like to have for my ideal assistant are things like judging player ability potential & ability, tactical knowledge, discipline, motiving, determination & working with youngsters is a must because on team settings I like him to be in charge of my Reserve team & U18s. Doing his own thing with tactics (going back to the player position things, I still like to retrain etc... to fit my formation because they may turn world class or decent enough sell on for a good few quid!) & contract offerings. I still every now then during the season make sure he's got all the decent youth players on new deals.

After all the hassle of training, player positions, sorting through my coaches & all the nitty gritty, a quick click onto team settings lets me tell the game, I WANT my assistant to control both youth sides as I've just stated, the next opposition scout I have I like to use to scout the players out on loan or future players I send out on loan, I have no idea why, just something I do. I also set it so I have complete control over first team, from contracts to friendlies, but the if again I'm a big club, I let the assistant arrange friendlies, the smaller I am I like to get the bigger teams at home to raise much needed money so I usually do that myself. If I'm in abit of lazy mood I sometimes let my assistant do my friendly games but I've seen this backfire & him upsetting the whole side in a stupid friendly with a pointless team talk!

Now that is my main first day things I like to do, obviously the first team squad & the whole going through the reserves & U18s to see if anyone is worth a shout for the first team is missed out. But that is much obvious because it's the point in the whole game!

I hope you've enjoyed my first ever article, sorry if I have seemed to of waffled on, not the best at typing up anything like this! Especially off the top of my head, it is only my opinion of how a first day is done on my game/current save! I'm sure everybody has there own little things that they do on the first day & it would be nice to hear on how you do it! Maybe not a massive article I have done! Would just be good to see how we all do it differently...

Thanks.
