MARADONA & JASSAR - A TRULY WOLDCLASS COMBINATION // PART 1 - PRE SEASON
View attachment 430337 View attachment 430343
Why Maradona? Maradona was a world class player, but as Manager his tactical skills werent too good. so in combination with the tactical genius Jassar this is can be a world class combo.
I use the MODERN WARFARE TWEAKS for 14.1.4 (currently they can be seen on page 88 and 108 of jassar's tactical thread)
Enough with Information you don't want to hear - let's start with the most important part of the Season:
THE PRE SEASON
First we need to know what do we want to do in Preseason? My main goal is to acquire ALL OF THESE: squad harmony, get tactics fluid, sign the right players & staff, set up training
- FLUID TACTICS:
As we want to have the tactics fluid as soon as possible, i load them right after i got signed. you guys may be noticed that there are three slots to train the tactics. so i recommend to load the tactic you want to be fluid sooner twice. as you can see in the screenshot i loaded the away tactics twice.
Besides these steps the training setup is also quite important. I always set Main Fous of General Training during Preseason to Team Cohesion and the Intensity to Very High. (Dont change it when your coaches recommend you to lower it down, cause the players arent happy with the training schedule. Match Training Main Focus is set to Tactics Only

- SIGN STAFF:
After my team is training on the right tactics, I start looking for the right staff. You need to have 4-Star rated coaches. With highly rated Coaches you make sure your players will develop amazing. I like the lists at http://footballmanagerstory.com to find my staff members, although some of them aren't in the games & it works only for bigger clubs. Before you start releasing all your staff, i recommend to look at them first (1st & 2nd Team and Under-18 Team).
If you're not interested in your players developement, just make sure you have one coach with good defending attributes, cause you'll need him to assign Opposition Instructions in tough games. Besides that I only sign Scouts with high Rating in PA, cause mostly i'm more interested in the future as the present.

- INDIVIDUAL TRAINING: Besides good Coaches and Team Training i do set Individual Training for the players. Here my Individual Training Setup:
Training Schedule

GK
Reflexes or Goalkeeper
CF
Complete Forward

P
Poacher

If you change your player roles, because you dont have a poacher for example & its working for you, I recommend to change the Individual training according to his new role.
As I want to get all out of my Youth Prospects I do set Individual Training for them too, but the setting will vary from my first the players as I put more general training to the youngster like Complete Forward for all Forwards or Central Midfielder for all MC in my youth squad..

- SQUAD HARMONY:
Last but least the most important of a success as manager in FM14 (like already in FM13) is to have a perfect squad harmony. I guess thats also a realy realistic setup from SI, so i like it. How can you get high morale?
Winning Matches & Trophys, Team Talk & Give every Player enough playing Time (accoring to his Squad Staus).
First I set up about 7 to 10 friendly Matches and make sure it's realistic to win all of them 'cause thats the most imortant thing about preseason games: winning, winning & winning.

As i want to make sure i dont like to have a huge squad at the end of preseason (or earlier) i load off all my players i dont see playing regurarly i my team. normally i just have 3 players that dont figure in my match squad.
That makes 11 players starting the games + 7 subs + 3 players outside the match squad.

If I'm struggling with alot of injuries, i give my youngster the possibility so show up in my match squad. for selecting the youngster i use my assistant manager, selecting all squads on filtering squads

- TEAM TALKS: Never let your Assistant Manager do the Team Talk, he can be world class in Team Talk, but i've had it too much that he used "I've nothing specific no say and after that morale was ****** up. So here are some tipps on using Team Talks:

After every match, I sort my players based on the ratings and I praise the players who played best.
- SET PIECES:
With Corners played to the far Post you can score a lot of Goals, you just need to follow these steps:
Find your best corner takers & assign the left footed to the right corners, right footed to left corners.

(I do it as well with Throw in's and Freekicks. Just make sure only players playing on your left side make Left Throw ins the left side & and the same for Right Throw Ins).
The next Step is to assign the Duties during a Attacking Corner. I've had the most success placing the placing the player with best heading attributes to far post and telling the strikers to go forward, as they can smash alot of rebounds into the net.

That's it from Pre-Season with Diego! Next Part is coming soon. Topics are: Training during Season, handle unhappy players, sign great Players & facing big clubs
