I've just finished my first season and came 6th in the league with man u, as well as losing easily in the other comps. I have played the below tactic, recommended for man u by someone else, all season. I started badly, then had a great streak and was top at Christmas for a week or two. It went downhill from there and by the last few matches, I was losing by a few goals against teams like wigan, even though it said they were out of form. I didn't win a match in the last 10 league games.

Formation: 4-1-3-2
Instructions:
Attacking
Short
Committed
Pressing: yes
The others all no.
Player Roles:
Backwings: Full back
Central Defenders: Central Def.
Defending Midfielder: Ball Winning
Midfielders: (right and left) Central Midfielder
Central Midfielder: Deep Lying
Strikers: Complete Forward.

My team is:
GK- De Gea
DL - Evra
DR - Rafael
DC - Evans
DC - Vidic
DMC - Hargreaves
MC - Anderson
MC - Giuliano
MC - Ji-Sung Park
FC - Rooney
FC - Hernandez

SUB - Lindegaard (cause Van Der Sar has just retired)
SUB - Ferdinand
SUB - Smalling
SUB - Gibson
SUB - Nani
SUB - Berbatov
SUB - Owen

Thanks for any formation help you can give me.

And just out of interest, comment on your opinion about ' Should the importance of tactics be played down on fmh 2012 and be more on the ability of the players like in the good old days?' (please reply to this at the start of the post with Yes/indifferent/no.)

Your best bet would probably be asking in fmhvibe.co.uk mate, they are dedicated to FM handheld. This section isn't very active..

Use Ferdinand instead of Evans and assistant often says Anderson is best midfielder... he's too inexperienced, buy a temporary replacement and wait a season or two.
