In 2003 Chelsea football club was bought by Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich in a deal worth £140m ($233m).

The Russian businessman pledged to plough even more resources into the club while Mr Bates said the deal would move Chelsea onto the "next level".

"We are delighted to agree this deal to acquire what is already one of the top clubs in Europe," Mr Abramovich said.

"We have the resources and ambition to achieve even more given the huge potential of this great club."

By the 15th May 2015 it was declared that Abramovic had spent over £1 Billion on Chelsea football club. In return was 3 league titles, 3 FA Cups, 3 League Cups, Europa and the biggest prize of them all the Champions league.

Sheikh Mansour turned English football on its head with his sensational takeover of Manchester City in 2008.

City immediately signed Brazilian superstar Robinho for £32.5m from Real Madrid and pushed Manchester United all the way for Dimitar Berbatov that same summer.

One superstar after another made their way to the Etihad as City’s financial muscle saw them shake up the transfer market. World class stars like Yaya Toure, David Silva and Sergio Aguero were recruited, along with a marquee manager in Roberto Mancini.

The Italian ended their 35-year wait for a major trophy - winning the FA Cup in 2011.

Their first Premier League title followed a year later - but amid talk of behind the scenes rows, Mancini was shown the door after failing to defend the trophy.

In came Manuel Pellegrini and the former Real boss made an immediate impact winning the title and the Capital One Cup in his first season in charge in 2013-14.

Sterling and De Bruyne soon joined for a combined fee of £99m

Could the same cash injection and club reputation have the same impact on any club?

For this experiment I have placed Dover in the Premier League. Given them 10000 in reputation and a £1b bank balance.

Will they spend as much as they can in order to become an established Premier League club or even challenge for the title?

Thanks Battman. Seeing how much money they spent and the form picking up at the end of the season pretty much convinced me to see how they will get on in the Championship now. Will try to get it done tonight

Part 2

After being thrown in at the deep end with a suitcase full on cash, Dover Athletic Football Club failed to survive in the Premiership.

Having picked up just a single point from their first 23 Premier League games it was always going to end in misery. However in the remaining 15 games Dover achieved a much improved record of W1 D8 L6.

In January 2017, Dover began the transformation of the club.

4 big signings with a combined fee of over £100m as well of a change of management had a positive impact and leaves them well equipped for the battle to get instant promotion back into the Premiership with 2 familiar names in charge.

Very interesting idea, loved the first part will be following to see how they can do in the championship.
But will they survive long paying championship players £250k+ a year??

Thanks for the support Tracz.

I guess it will be a case of doing everything to get back into the Premiership as soon as possible. Hoping to have the next episode uploaded tonight!

surely they will collapse soon spending over 800m in two seasons! Jonjo Shelvey out on loan, wonder how much of his 275k p/w Valencia were paying

They going to need to go straight to the top if they are to have a chance of financial stability.
£275k pw aint maintainable for championship squads. I cant see there being much transfer business either this summer.
Financial ruin is a huge possibility.
But lets wait and see.

DOVER WIN THE CHAMPIONSHIP!

After being relegated from the Premiership, Dover have recovered well at the first time of asking. Not just gaining an instant return to the top league but winning the Championship in style.

It did however come at a cost.....

£246 million to be exact

as well as a rather hefty wage bill:

This kind of uncontrolled spending has had a big impact on the finances of Dover Athletic Football Club. The once billionaires now boast finances which look like this...

What does the next season have in store for Dover? Do they have now have a team capable of challenging for the top honors? Will everyone stay? Will they go into administration?

Stay tuned...

total collapse seems imminent! think you were right in the first episode when you said it might have to be a league 1 team minimum for it to possibly work. 500 fans a game....

It's definitely looking that way mate. Do feel it is a shame in some respect but I will carry it on to see how things turn out. Should have the upload ready for tomorrow night

Financial ruin!!!
If they manage to sell enough to clear the debt they wont have a team good enough to survive.
I think we have a new Portsmouth haha!
Looking forward to next season

Who would of thought putting Jonjo Shelvey on £200k a week would put the club in trouble haha

DOVER DEBTS HIT £150M

Despite finishing a respectable 11th on their return to the Premiership, Dover Athletic Football Club has amassed debts of over £150m. This has no doubt been a result of spending without caution and offering the type of wages many elite clubs would struggle to maintain, let alone a club with a stadium of 500

In an effort to avoid complete collapse Dover have been forced into listing nearly all of their first team players. Although with the likes of Jonjo Shelvey picking up £200k a week, selling the players might not be so straight forward.

Reporters tried to interview Shelvey about the difficulty the club is in, however when approached he seemed startled and hurried off with what we can only assume were last weeks wages.
