I tried the valencia thing myself, the problem with it is that very quickly they get guys in who resettle the debt. This happens suddenly and unless you are the manager there is no way of telling when. I was mid way through negotiations for mata when it ended and the asking price rocketed. I was watching the loan debt thing in the club info screen and it halved overnight. You said you tested it as a manager, what actually happens?
