December 2009
Is the festive cheer around the Madejski?
After a successful november we caught up with the Royals manager here what he had to say,
"I'm proud of the way the players were able to responsed to the critics and give the fans something to cheer about, The next six games come thick and fast over the christmas period with three home games against Palace, Scunny, Swansea and inbetween a couple of tricky away games at Aston Gate against Bristol then down to Devon for Plymouth. This month will really show the players character and maybe they'll be a extra present in their christmas stockings...
Sheffield Wednesday 0 - 1 Reading
(Sigurdsson)
In the december sunshine over Hillsborough an early goal from Gylfi Sigurdsson was the difference between the two sides though Wednesday sure made Reading work for their victory.
Reading 2 - 0 Crystal Palace
(Church, Griffin)
On a windy night at the Madejski it was Reading who provided the performance in a 2-0 win over struggling Palace, The pick of the goals being from right back Andy Griffin he had a fine game.
Reading 1 - 3 Scunthorpe
(Hunt)
In a woeful home diplay the Royals slump to their first defeat in 9 league games. In a match every fan was relishing Rolfe's boys never showed up with Hunt bagging a late consolation.
Bristol City 0 - 2 Reading
(Church 2)
Vintage display eases pain from the home defeat to Scunthorpe, An inspired performance from Simon Church bagging a fantastic solo effort.
Reading 3 - 1 Swansea
(Karacan, Church 2)
All Rolfe wanted for christmas was this 3 points with quality finishing today as Simon Church continue his impressive run. Youngster Karacan also scores with a curling effort, Swansea have a player sent off but has no impact.
Plymouth 1 - 3 Reading
(McAnuff, Church, Cisse)
Reading end 2009 with a great display at Home Park with some sublime football as Church continues his goalscoring may it continue.
After some good perfromances in december we end the month with Reading still sat in 7th but just 1 point of Bristol in sixth and 7 points of Middlesbrough in 2nd
Reading player of the month was easy this month with 6 goals in as many games Simon Church was in fantastic form also claiming championship young player of the month.
Rolfe also claimed manager of the month runner up.

New year, New fortunes
JANUARY 2010
With Reading just outside the playoffs we go into the final 5 months in a decent position considering early result.
FA Cup Weeknend
Blackpool 0 - 1 Reading
(Pearce)
Reading meet fans expectations in 1-0 win as defender Alex Pearce steps up to win it. Disappointingly Noel Hunt has been lost for 3 weeks with a damaged elbow.
Home tie against Sheffield Wednesday in 4th round
Reading 2 - 2 Newcastle
(Cisse, Church)
Had an oppourtunity to win the game late on but a very good display against 1st placed Newcastle free scoring affair with some great football from both sides.
N'Forest 4 - 2 Reading
(Kebe, McAnuff)
FANTASTIC entertainment for the neutral but heart wrenching for Reading fans as they slump to defeat in a high scoring gaem at the City Ground, With Joe Garners hat-trick the telling difference.
Rolfe sign Aresenal defender Sol Campbell
In a 3 month loan deal Campbell is brung in to add competition to the central defender postion whilst acting as cover and providing experience.
FA Cup 4th round
Reading 0 - 1 Sheffield Wednesday
Reading crash out of the FA cup after a poor showing on a rainy afternoon in Berkshire.
After the game Rolfe had this to say...
"At the start of the season I was given a target of promotion, The chairman wasn't interested in cup runs but I gave them one in the Carling Cup but FA proved to be to much for us, I still believe we are on course this season and only having the league to focus on can only be a good thing."
Rolfe sells Armstrong to Wigan
Reading have agreed a 1.5 million pound deal to sell left back Chris Armstrong to Premier League side Wigan.
Madejski and Rolfe both agreed "The offer was to good to turn down and wished Chris all the best for the future."
Now with abit of money are Reading going to in market before in closes?
Sheffield United 0 - 2 Reading
(Karacan, Sigurdsson)
Reading took out their cup frustrations on an unsuspecting Sheffield United tonight at a rainy Bramall Lane, A pair of goals from midfield duo Karacan and Sigurdsson were enough.
Royals sign left back Trippy Makonda
Reading have announced another season-long loan deal this time with PSG for young under 21 international Makonda.
It is thought he will replace former left back Armstrong who was sold to Wigan recently.
Reading 2 - 0 Barnsley
(Church, Gunnarsson)
Confident showing with another clean sheet and Church back scoring with an extra goal from returning Gunnarsson.
After a decent month in the league with 2 wins, a draw and defeat Reading have finally broken into the playoff places sitting in 6th 2 points clear of Forest in 7th and 7 points off the automatic places.
Royals player of the month Jem Karacan after a string of good performances capping it with a goal against Sheffiled United.

February 2010
Alot of possitives can come from this month as we have 4 league games against on paper weaker opponents in Doncaster (A), Plymouth (H), Crystal Palace (A) and Sheffield Wednesday (H) although inbetween that there is a tricky home tie against a resurged Derby County and a tough away trip to Blackpool.
ONWARDS AND UPWARDS
Doncaster 0 - 2 Reading
(Kebe, Rasiak)
Excellent first half provides Reading with the win a Keepmoat with goals from Jimmy Kebe and Grzegorz Rasiak.
"FAN DAY"
Reading 3 - 0 Plymouth
(Church 2, Karacan)
After a poor first half at the Madejski Stadium the game came to life in a six minute second half spell in which Reading scored all 3 of their goals, A Chruch brace and a cool Karacan finsh proved the difference.
Reaction from fan day was very prositive with the hope of an increased future fan base.
Reading 2 - 0 Derby
(Cisse, Church)
Bleak miserable weather at the Madejski and Derby wern't much better as they are swept aside by a confident Reading side with Cisse netting the opener followed by Church's 15th league goal.
Crystal Palace 3 - 2 Reading
(Church, Cisse)
Disappointing away trip in a midweek fixture as a Danny Rose hat-trick provides the downfall altough Reading were able to mount a comeback from 3-0 down but fell just short.
Blackpool 3 - 2 Reading
(Ingimarsson, Church)
Tough trip north provides Readings stumbling box as another pair of poor decisions lead to defeat. The first being Bouazza clear offside then a dive from the same man lead to the winning penalty.
Reading 5 - 2 Sheffield Wednesday
(Rasiak 3, McAnuff, Fleck)
Great win for Reading against Wednesday as Grzegorz Rasiak finds his shooting boots by scoring a hat-trick in front of the Berkshire faithful. There were also goals for McAnuff and Fleck.
Confident month excluding the 2 away defeats as Reading improve to 5th although West Brom behind by a point have a game in hand on the Royals.
Reading player of the month is Gylfi Sigurdsson a tough decision with both Church and Rasiak scoring 5 and 4 goals respectively but he was the insperation assist in no less then of Reading's goals.
END OF FEBRUARY

March 2010

Jem Karacan came back from under 21 duty after playing well in Turkey's 5-1 win over Moldova.
Gylfi Sigurdsson and Brynjar Gunnarsson came up against club team mate Simon Church in their 2-1 victory over Wales.
Noel Hunt disappointed in Ireland woeful 2-2 draw with minnows Macedonia.
BIG BIG month in March with three games against playoff rivals two at home against Bristol City and West Brom with a trip to Middlesbrough in between.
CRUNCH TIME
Scunthorpe 1 - 4 Reading
(McAnuff 2, Kebe, Rasiak)
Great start to the month here with goals from Rasiak, Kebe and a McAnuff brace, Free scoring side at their best.
Reading 2 - 1 Bristol City
(Cisse, Rasiak)
Strong display and a great boost to the promotion push with Rasiak goal scoring the winner after Cisse opened before a Haynes leveller.
Reading 2 - 2 QPR
(Kebe, Church)
Good performance although a win was what we deserved, Rasiak had a goal disallowed yet again after goals from Kebe and Church had us in a good postion before QPR's levellers after oth Reading goals, I was disappointed to see Sigurdsson missing a penalty but he's been great all season.
Middlesbrough 2 - 0 Reading
Tough trip to the riverside not suprised by the result boys gave their all but were simply outplayed. Obertan who I turned down in to take on loan in august hit me were it hurt.
Leicester 1 - 3 Reading
(Cisse, Church 2)
Confident away victory some sublime pass and move stuff keeps the push going.
Reading 0 - 0 West Brom
Draw but by no means a bore, Lively encounter between two promotion vieing teams, Meite's red card was too late to make a difference.
As we end march going into the final full month of fixtures Reading have improved thier league position considerabley up 3 places into 2nd and the final automatic spot.
Player of the month for March goes to Jobi McAnuff after 2 goals and a string of great performances.
END OF MARCH

April/May 2010
Reading go into the final month of fixtures sitting in second but only 3 points separates them and Sheffield United in 7th.
WIN or BUST
Ipswich 0 - 3 Reading
(Fleck, McAnuff, Hunt)
Very good away display as Ipswich have been good at home scoreline flattered us abit but we did play well.
Reading 2 - 0 Coventry
Nice home win before a tricky away trip to Cardiff with solid showings from McAnuff and Fleck in Churchs absences.
Newcastle promoted to the Premier League
With Newcastle going up it means there is only one final automatic spot which we are currently occuping with a couple of tricky away ties at Cardiff and then Watford with Peterborugh coming to Reading in between.
Cardiff 0 - 2 Reading
(McAnuff, Howard)
Reading dispose of arguabley their hardest remaining challenge with relative ease as another McAnuff strike folllowed by a late Howard goal wins it in Cardiff.
Reading 4 - 0 Peterborough
(McAnuff, Spence, Sigurdsson, Howard)
Simply superb display from the Royals securing a playoff spot at the least now are just one game away from the Premier League after another goal from McAnuff.
Newcastle promoted as CHAMPIONS
Reading (85 points) also have a chance to clinch promotion at Watford with a win or a better result then Bristol City (80 points)
Watford 1 - 2 Reading
(Cisse 2)
Scrappy display with both goals coming from corner but a result is what was needed and the 3 points is what we got.
