Transfer Window Opens​

With the new season around the corner it's time Rolfe started thinking about possible additions and departures to and from the club.
Rolfe was spotted at many of the 2010 world cup games during the summer which can only suggest he's looking to invest in a couple of starlets from the tournament.​

Transfers In​

Swedish international right back Fredrik Stoor from Fulham in a £1.4 million deal filling a desperate need at right back for the new season.​

Man City striker Jo has agreed to join Reading on a season-long loan to replace the lose of Grzegorz Rasiak and set to partner Simon Church upfront.

They have also shored up their defence with the signing of English under 21 international Joe Mattock in a £1.5 million deal from West Brom.

Reading have sold striker Grzegorz Rasiak to Stade Malherbe for a fee of £1.3 million.​

Fellow striker Noel Hunt has also departed from the Madejski in a £2.7 million deal to division rivals Bolton.​

Also midfielder Scott Davies has join Derby in a £250,000 switch amd Julian Kelly has join Championship side Hull City in a £1 million transfer.​

And after a successful loan spell at Hudderfield last season Hal Robson-Kanu has join Watford for 6 months.

Reading edge it in a battling game at the Madejski this afternoon both goals coming from corners.

Reading finally sign a pair of full backs as cover

Today Reading open the cheque book to bring in left back David Murphy from Birmingham for a £875,000 fee after a good showing against Reading on the opening day. They have also completed a loan deal for Man United youth right back Ritchie De Laet including a £125,000 loan fee.

In a good showing from both side here at the Reebok both team cancel each other out all over the pitch with a fantatic Sigurdsson freekick cancelling out Basham's header that came midway through the first half.

In a fantastic performance from Royals keeper Adam Federici they manage to survive a late Fulham onslaught to pick a the victory and extend their good start to the season. Reading striker Jo put reading ahead early on but things looked bad for the home side after Matt Mills gave away a penalty for a foul on Harewood who then step up to take the penalty but keeper Federici guessed right and pulled of a great save to help them win it.

Reserves slump to defeat his evening at Roots Hall after a strong start with Long putting the away side ahead after 21 seconds but with not much after that after another penalty given Southend fund themselves level with a fantastic winner from midfielder McCormack.

After the defeat Royals manager Rolfe stated that although it was a bad performance he had a chance to see what his back-up players were about.
At the end of the interview he did state that altough cup runs do bring in some extra funds what good is it if we go back to championship football next season and underlined the league is the main focus.

Reading produce a fine fighting comeback here at St. James park after a struggling first half. But Rolfe's halftime teamtalk certainly g'ed the boys up as they came out fighting in the second half with a goals from a returning Church and a late header from on-loan Manchester City striker Jo.

Royals player of the month is Gylfi Sigurdsson bagging a goal and providing 3 goals for his team mates he really looks at home in the league.

At the end of Reading first month back in the Premier League they stand in a remarkable 4th place but with tough fixtures coming up in september will they still be knocking around after?

Futher international duty means only 3 games this month​

Winger James Henry plays and scores in Scotland under 21's 3-0 win over Belgium under 21's then again in a 2-0 lose to Portugal under 21's.​

Gylfi Sigurdsson and Brynjar Gunnarsson both play in Icelands set of 2-0 loses to Chile and Portugal.​

Joe Mattock plays and assists a goal for England under 21's in a 5-1 win over Estonia under 21's.​

Can the Royals continue?​

Going into October they sit 9th in the table and face a couple of tricky games this month although no Premier League games easy the likes and quality of Tottenham and Aston Villa make things that extra bit tough.​

Stoke 2 - 4 Reading

Six goal thriller here at the Britannia with Reading the beneficiary after goals from both wingers and striker sealed the deal.​

International Break​

James Henry was once again on under 21 duty as Scotland win 2-0 over Lithuania and then beat Liechtenstein 3-0 in which he bags himself a goal.​

Also on under 21 duty was left back Joe Mattock in England's 4-1 win over Finland.​

Simon Church was on full squad duties in a 1-0 lose to Switzerland.​

Gylfi Sigurdsson and Brynjar Gunnarsson were both playing for Iceland in wins over Norway 1-0 and Cyprus 2-1 were Sigurdsson scored a goal in both to continue his great start to international football currently standing at 5 goals in 12 appearences.​

Another 4 goals here as they cruise past Blackburn with a fine display from loanee striker Jo what a signing he's turned out to be but unfortunatly the Royals have lost influential centre back Alex Pearce for 3 weeks.​

Reading in a fantastic display against a sluggish Spurs team as Naughton who turned down a move to the Madejski put into his own net to get the game going and the Royals didn't look back from there as they thumped Spurs in the first half scoring 5 with fine attacking football before a defence second half gave them 3 points and a warning to the rest of the league that they are no pushovers.

Aston Villa 2 - 0 Reading
After a string of fine performances Reading went down 2-0 at Villa Park this afternoon after goals from Agbonlahor and Petrov decided it.​

Reading end october improving 3 places to 6th after 3 wins and 1 defeat.​

Reading player of the month is on loan striker Jo after scoring 4 goals in 4 games in a great run of form for both the stirker and the club.​

The type of places newly promoted team look forward to the most right?? Unfortunatly we have to make our trips this month in a rich vein of form a good or bad thing?? Only time will tell, Oh and we face the small matter of Man United at home!!!!

Chelsea 2 - 0 Reading
I resistant Reading gave their all in this one but it took Chelsea over an hour to break a stubborn Royal defence down Drogba slotting home after 67 minutes to break Reading hearts before Anelka added to th pain a few minutes later.

Reading 1 - 1 Sunderland

Royals fail to take chances after Michael Turner's horror tackle lead to him seeing RED early in the first half but the home side wern't able to break down a resolute Black Cats defence until Simon Church popped up to score in the 55th minute before Darren Bent's equalizer in the 71st meant the two sides pick up a point each.

Liverpool 3 - 0 Reading
Liverpool punish Reading defence in this 3-0 win as Fernando Torres found his form being lethal in and around the box with 2 goals and an assist. Reading entertain United next weekend i'm sure they'll be glad to see the back off November.

Reading agree deal to sign Romelu Lukaku from Anderlecht

It is understood that Reading have had a £15,000,000 bid for Anderlecht striker Lukaku it is though the deal has been spread over 36 months which is costing the Royals nothing upfront, With this signing things are clear for Shane Long to start looking for a new club and Sky Sports News understand that Reading have excepted bids from Birmingham, Crystal Palace and Sheffield United in the reigon of £2,500,000 for the Irish international striker.

Manager Rolfe hopes a good final month in the league will be the perfect end to a brilliant 2010

Reading start the month with a home game against West Ham before 4 consecutive away games at Wolves, Portsmouth, Arsenal and then finishing the month at struggling Birmingham.

Good solid showing from the home side in this one with both goals coming in a entertaining second at the Madejski Stadium.

Wolves prospere from lacklustre Reading performance even with a set of poor refereeing decisions one a disallowed Reading goal and the other a penalty where it seemed Ebanks-Blake had taken a dive Rolfe states Wolves simply outplayed us and derserve the win.

Portsmouth 3 - 3 Reading
(Karacan, McAnuff, Church)
Six goal thriller spilt down the middle in a 3-3 draw in which Reading fans must be disappointed after leading 3-0 but a great GREAT Pompey comeback meant the Royals lost their advantage and now go on to the Emirates wondering why they didn't get all 3 points.

Arsenal - Reading
Arsenal meet expectations in dominant win over mid-table Reading this afternoon with goals from Ramsey and van Persie 2. Church did manage to get a late consolation but nothing more.

In a good display from Reading goals from Jo and Karacan meant that they left with the 3 points and end 2010 with a win.

At the end of a brilliant 2010 which saw the Royals promoted back to the Premier League they finsh the year sitting in 10th place.

If Reading are serious about a Europa League place this season they'll have to earn it with their final 6 games as 3 are against top 4 teams in Man United, Arsenal and Liverpool although the fixtures have been fair to them playing 4 of the final 6 at home.

Confident perfromance as they dent Wolves own european hope as Johnson's first goal for the club helps sink the away team here today.

Reading fight for a draw as they hope stay alive and United title shot all but ends after a 2-2 draw in which the away side lead twice but Berbatov popped up late to pull United out of a ditch.

Reading simply ripped West Ham to shreads in the second half as they continue their terrific run in form.

At the end of a unbeaten month Reading are lying in 8th just 2 points behind Wolves in 7th with a game in hand over the midlands club.

Almost an upset here in a game Liverpool dominated but it was Reading who took the lead from the spot after a foul on Lukaku which Sigurdsson converted and it looked like staying that way till Dirk Kuyt step up and headed home for Liverpool in injury time.

Reading need to better Everton (who go away to Man United) or Wolves (who are at home to Chelsea) results to earn a Europa League birth.

READING beat Arsenal to qualify for the Europa League and take away the Gunners chance winning the league here today as I great day for youngster Jay Emmanuel-Thomas turned into disater after putting his team infront and cruising for the top spot he then scored an own goal for Reading following Simon Church's equalizer.

There will be EUROPEAN football at the Madejski next season

After flirting with the possibility all season long Reading today confirmed they place in next seasons Europa league after their win over Arsenal and with both Everton and Wolves slumping to final day defeats to Man United and Chelsea.
After the game Rolfe had this to say.

"Make no mistake this has been a fantastic season for everyone involved with Reading Football Club from the Chairman to the ladies behind the ticket to the stewards making every game trouble to Joyce my office cleaner everyone at this club will get a bonus after this REMARKABLE season even if it comes out of my own pocket!!"

Reading actually managed to leapfrog both Everton and Wolves to finish 6th.

My main focus this summer is to improve my sloppy defence that conceded 62 goals last season so i've decided to invest whatever money in just defence as my attacking play saw us score a league high 76 goals.

We kick off the season with a confident win over newly promoted Burnley I would have liked a few more goals considering the amounts of chances we had but 3-0 is very respectable.
