Tactic has served me really well with Bolton in league one with a few minor adjustments.
Predicted 14th with the lowest net transfer spend and no one in the medie dream eleven.
So, at first the tactic was pretty shakey (aswell as in league two where i favoured a 4231). I got beat 3-1 by Ipswich at the start of the season and after experimenting a bit I realised I had to make the fullbacks sit deeper.
Big part of the success in general was getting Man City as my senior affiliate allowing me to loan in youngsters who are much better than i'd of got normally. 2 fullbacks are from Man City with the other 2 (Crellin and Sorinola) already being on loan since the start.
Broke the consecutive win record in league one using this tactic, a few close calls but pulling the fullbacks deeper meant the tactic was a lot of defensively safe with slightly less of a goal threat.
As with most runs like that I did get quite fortunate a fair few times; 71 minute penalty winner against Gillinham, 52 minute winning goal from a corner again Burton Albion. I think the end of the run was a bit unfortunate because my game crashed and usually when I reload the game they don't seem quite as strong as they were, probably a placebo type effect though as we were all over Newport they just got a late 66 minute goal with a 0.28 xG to our 1.52.
Most important positions i'd say are probably your 2 fullbacks, CM and AM. The rest are obviously important like having less wasteful strikers as a lot of games were quite close due to missed chances, but you can get away with weaker players in other positions i'd say.
11th in wage spending aswell but probably largely due to man city being our senior affiliate.
Most goals scored, highest average possession, longest unbeaten streak, fewest goals conceded and most clean sheets.
Overall very solid tactic and adapatable to the players you have, I play a winger instead of an IF just because that's all I have. Definitely a big part of the reason that i've breezed league one. Thanks.
