Summer Window Recap

Transfers Out

1740418041935.webp

When we looked at our team I outlined some players I wanted to sell during the summer.
I ended up selling them all plus 2 other players I wans't planning to initially.

From the bunch, Datro Fofana is the one who stands out. I said he was our biggest asset and we cashed out on him while we could.
2.5M is decent money for a player with 3 goal contributions last season.

In addition to all the players I said I wanted to sell, we also sold backups like Chiheb Abidi, Júlio Dabó, Dinis Pinto and Mateusão.

It wasn't enough to get us out of the red, but it helped a good bit.

The first signing we made was a winger from Vitória SC (they seem to be a good team to raid for some decent bargains).
He's not amazing, but he should be good enough to help us secure maintenance in the Primeira Liga.

1740418432595.webp

To replace Dabó, we signed 30 year old Pedro Amaral from Casa Pia.
Despite his age, he looks good and now we gave two good LB's we can actually rotate.

1740418477878.webp

Another Vitória SC's player comes to us.
José Bica is a 25 year old striker who looks very decent. His only bad attribute for us is his pace, which can be a problem since we are using a counter-attacking mentality once again.

1740418549134.webp

We then rescued a former player from Farense.
Frank Boya's contract was terminated and he joined us once again, this time at Boavista.

1740418586063.webp

The next signing was a very surprising one.
Juvenal is a 19 year old Brazilian midfielder whose contract was expiring in January. He signed a deal to join us in January, but his team didn't ask for any money for him to leave in the summer.
So we welcome him for nothing to be our backup playmaker.

1740418667887.webp

Another former Vitória SC player joins us on a free.
Mamadou Tounkara ended his contract at Chaves and move to Boavista on a free.

1740418710076.webp

Since we also sold Dinis Pinto, we replaced him with Gonçalo Esteves.
He's a very good backup for Tobias Fernández and we can easily rotate all our wing without losing much quality.

1740418780750.webp

We strenghten our midfield a bit more with Paulo Estrela, who cost us 82k from Estoril Praia.
He's very good and very versatile, so he should be a valuable asset at the club.

1740418827920.webp

The last player we signed was another Farense player.
Dani Figueira was unhappy at Farense and we signed him for 110k to be our main goalkeeper.

This is actually concerning though.
You see when we signed him for Farense he was our backup to Ricardo Velho and didn't really play many games for us.
Now, he joins us at Boavista and becomes our starter goalkeeper and he didn't become any better than he was 2 seasons ago.
This means our team is considerably weaker than the one we had at Farense so our job here won't be as easy as it was 2 seasons ago.

1740418969278.webp

Lastly, we promoted academy graduate Rufino Rodrigues to the first team to give us some coverage in our wings.

Schedule and Table

1740418961286.webp

Like I said, it won't be easy.
In our first 6 games we managed to win one (in style I must add), draw two and lose 3.
Not the best record so far, but for a team fighting to avoid relegation we already secured some valuable points.

1740419080289.webp

After the first 6 games we sit in the 11th position of the league table.
However, there are 5 teams below us who still have to play their games.

Also, as you can see Farense is no longer among the Primeira Liga teams. They actually finished bottom of the table last season and got relegated again.
If they don't get promoted this season, should we run it back and get them back here?

Let's see how things go until January, otherwise we'll be looking for a new job sooner than we expected.

Hanging On... Barely

9 points. That's all we were able to get after the first 6 games of the season.
With the 5 we already had, that makes 14 points in 15 games played.

Could be better, but could also be worst.

We are also out of both cup competitions, so no distractions there.

1740447451523.webp

It's not pretty is it?
We're currently 15th in the league only one point away from the relegation playoff spot.

There's hope though.
You see, when I looked into the data hub, our analysts told me we were good defensively, we just couldn't score.
So the only way to turn things around is to start scoring more goals.

1740447553912.webp

Since Kikas and Bica are clearly not cutting it for us, we bought Rosario Ancora for 140k and are now hoping he can get us a better goal scoring record.

1740447610203.webp

To help him out, we also signed Hélder Ferreira from Farense, another player we previously bought.
My line of thinking was this dude was actually pretty decent for us when we got Farense to the 1st division, so maybe he can still help us out.

1740447673652.webp

Well, it worked I guess.

Hélder Ferreira and Ancora already scored 5 goals since they joined, and also helped Vando Félix score 2 more for his personal tally, almost as many as he had until this point (3).

1740447758853.webp

With the results we got in January, we climbed all the way to the 12th place, 8 points away from the playoff spot and 16 away from automatic relegation.

There's still a lot to play this season.
We have 13 games left so that's a lot of points to either win... or lose.

Can we secure maintenance for Boavista? Or will we fall to the pressure and get the first relegation in our personal record?

Only time will tell...

Comeback of a Lifetime?

1740487071104.webp

Before showing anything else, I'll just leave this here.
6 players came to me and said they want to leave when their contracts expire, 5 of them were important players.
All of their contracts expire in 2029 though, so we won't be here when that happens.

Schedule and League Table

1740487233524.webp

After the January transfer window, we went on an amazing 7 game streak without a loss.
That eventually ended when we faced Porto and that shifted our performances back to the inconsistent results, but hey... We did win a lot of points.

1740487317852.webp

With those results, we climbed all the way to 9th place, finishing our season exactly at mid table.
I would say this season was a tremendous success.

It didn't compare to the one we had with Farense for sure, but after the start we had being able to secure a mid table spot is amazing.

Where next now?
1740487420396.webp

With our contract at Boavista reaching its end, we now have 3 options available to us: newly relegated sides Chaves and Moreirense, and 2nd tier side Feirense, who struggled in the league this season only managing a 14th place finish.

All of them will offer us different challenges and as you can see I applied to all of them, so we will be going to the first team that offers us a contract.

Our New Home

After another successful spell at Boavista, we are now searching for a new club.

1740597329583.webp

We have some good clubs available for us to take over.
Chaves and Moreirense obviously just got relegated this season so they will be the favorites to get promoted, but we also have Feirense who haven't played in Portugal's top tier since 2019 when they got relegated.

Like I said I applied to all the posts and would be joining the first team who offered us a job.

1740597462032.webp

That club was GD Chaves.

Grupo Desportivo de Chaves

1740597578657.webp

Grupo Desportivo de Chaves is a club located in Chaves, a region in the North of Portugal, which means we didn't travel too much after our last job (Boavista is based in Porto), which is around 50km away from our new home.

Like many other Portuguese clubs, Chaves is not praticularly a very condecorated club.
Their only trophy worth mentioning is a 2nd league title lifted in 2024.

However, Chaves was never able to establish themselves a regular member of Portugal's top tier. As you can see from the history graph, they clearly are a "YoYo club" around here.

We play our home games at the Estádio Municipal Engenheiro Manuel Branco Teixeira, a huge name that doesn't really links with the stadium's 11k seats.

The Squad
1740598089905.webp

Our very small staff team highlights our keeper Max Schmitt as our best player.
He certainly looks good, specially for this level.
If we can keep him for the next two years I won't be concerned about the GK position at all.

1740598164503.webp

Mateus Sarará is our reference at the DM position and he also looks like a very decent player, which is weird to see when you think this team got relegated.

1740598221461.webp

It gets even weirder when you look at Martim Neto, our main playmaker.
Sure he's not anything crazy, but he 's a very good looking player for a mid table team in Portugal's first division.

This players are better than the ones we had over at Boavista for instance, but they didn't get more than a 17th place.

1740598304316.webp

Despite those 3, we don't really have many standouts.

1740598382549.webp

Our best CB is the Portuguese Bruno Ribeiro and yes he is a good looking defender but despite his 17 jumping reach he only has 11 heading so he may not be a very good aerial threat for our seet pieces.

1740598454512.webp

Our best WB is the Italian Franco Carboni and he also looks very good.
The problem is he doesn't have a backup, so we need to find one.

1740598492691.webp

The last player worth a shoutout is our best winger Filip Stevanovic.
I'm pretty sure I've used him before in another save, just can't remember which one.

Either way he is also a good player and I'll try to keep him for the next few seasons.

Transfers Tarkets
When looking at our team, there are definitely some areas needing change.

Our defense needs a LB, a CB and a RB.
Our midfield needs at least one reinforcement, if possible a better B2B.
Our wings are stacked but some of the players are not very good so we may see one or two leaving the club.
Our strikers are both decent but if we can bring in a better one I won't close my eyes to it.

1740598715350.webp

The club finances are actually really good.
We are spending above our wage budget but that's mainly due to 4 loanees whop will leave soon, so we don't really need to worry about this as much as we did at Boavista.

Forced Changes

Transfers Out

In the last post I said many times how I thought our players were too good for the second division.
Unfortunately, many of them thought the same.

1740961667287.webp

We lost 3 important players in the summer, all of them to relegation release clauses.
I tried to get them off their contracts, but they were not willing to negotiate new contracts.
We say goodbye to playmaker Martim Neto, winger Filip Stevanovic and CB Bruno Rofrigues.

Transfers In

20df34ece9951df257ee13b838589553.webp

The first signing we made was Tommaso Corazza who joined us on a free transfer from Braga.
He comes as a backup for our RB position, but can also play on the left side.

468c00d934e0058b28ced288c160bf52.webp

We then signed a new midfielder for the B2B role. Romário Barós contract at Porto ran out and he signed on a free as well.

f46554081e7653d44d1e445d9ad15f89.webp

To replace Martim Neto, we brought in Gonçalo Moreira on loan from Benfica for the season.
His contract at Benfica is ending at the end of the season, so there's a possibility to sign him on a free next season.

f3a499989bd618ad0d4010aa6500aa2e.webp

We keep signing backup players as Gonçalo Costa becomes our backup LB.

9efa6937ece6b07c5a1c0433857daad3.webp

And then Nikos Michelis signed from Famalicão for 145k to be our backup left CB.

1740962100946.webp

Lastly, we signed Christian Ebere to be Stevanovic's replacement when we saw his release clause met.

1740962233924.webp

After all the signings this is how our team looks right now.
We have depth everywhere but we lost some quality with the sales we made. Hopefully it's still enough to win the league or get promoted at least.

Schedule and League Table

1740962317701.webp

We started our season very well despite losing 3 important players and already faced some very tough teams.
It may be a good sign of what's to come.

1740962373082.webp

We are currently sharing the top of the table with Belenenses but with only 4 games played it's still too early to say anything.

We'll see how things stand in January.
