Summer Window Recap
Transfers Out
When we looked at our team I outlined some players I wanted to sell during the summer.
I ended up selling them all plus 2 other players I wans't planning to initially.
From the bunch, Datro Fofana is the one who stands out. I said he was our biggest asset and we cashed out on him while we could.
2.5M is decent money for a player with 3 goal contributions last season.
In addition to all the players I said I wanted to sell, we also sold backups like Chiheb Abidi, Júlio Dabó, Dinis Pinto and Mateusão.
It wasn't enough to get us out of the red, but it helped a good bit.
Transfers In
The first signing we made was a winger from Vitória SC (they seem to be a good team to raid for some decent bargains).
He's not amazing, but he should be good enough to help us secure maintenance in the Primeira Liga.
To replace Dabó, we signed 30 year old Pedro Amaral from Casa Pia.
Despite his age, he looks good and now we gave two good LB's we can actually rotate.
Another Vitória SC's player comes to us.
José Bica is a 25 year old striker who looks very decent. His only bad attribute for us is his pace, which can be a problem since we are using a counter-attacking mentality once again.
We then rescued a former player from Farense.
Frank Boya's contract was terminated and he joined us once again, this time at Boavista.
The next signing was a very surprising one.
Juvenal is a 19 year old Brazilian midfielder whose contract was expiring in January. He signed a deal to join us in January, but his team didn't ask for any money for him to leave in the summer.
So we welcome him for nothing to be our backup playmaker.
Another former Vitória SC player joins us on a free.
Mamadou Tounkara ended his contract at Chaves and move to Boavista on a free.
Since we also sold Dinis Pinto, we replaced him with Gonçalo Esteves.
He's a very good backup for Tobias Fernández and we can easily rotate all our wing without losing much quality.
We strenghten our midfield a bit more with Paulo Estrela, who cost us 82k from Estoril Praia.
He's very good and very versatile, so he should be a valuable asset at the club.
The last player we signed was another Farense player.
Dani Figueira was unhappy at Farense and we signed him for 110k to be our main goalkeeper.
This is actually concerning though.
You see when we signed him for Farense he was our backup to Ricardo Velho and didn't really play many games for us.
Now, he joins us at Boavista and becomes our starter goalkeeper and he didn't become any better than he was 2 seasons ago.
This means our team is considerably weaker than the one we had at Farense so our job here won't be as easy as it was 2 seasons ago.
Lastly, we promoted academy graduate Rufino Rodrigues to the first team to give us some coverage in our wings.
Schedule and Table
Like I said, it won't be easy.
In our first 6 games we managed to win one (in style I must add), draw two and lose 3.
Not the best record so far, but for a team fighting to avoid relegation we already secured some valuable points.
After the first 6 games we sit in the 11th position of the league table.
However, there are 5 teams below us who still have to play their games.
Also, as you can see Farense is no longer among the Primeira Liga teams. They actually finished bottom of the table last season and got relegated again.
If they don't get promoted this season, should we run it back and get them back here?
Let's see how things go until January, otherwise we'll be looking for a new job sooner than we expected.
