First, sorry for blasting new posts all day, trying to get a better understanding. Elsewhere, I've seen it suggested that in order to keep teams guessing as to what you'll play, you should have different formations you can go to to start a game with. What I'm wondering is how different is different enough?
As of right now i've got three variations of 4-4-2, one that's attack oriented, with both strikers to either side of the top of the box (next to the half circle, P.S. if anyone can tell me WHY that's there, i'd love to know, despite watching games fairly often, i've never seen anything special about it, its not in the PK area, so...) and an AM in front of 3 evenly spaced midfielders.
The second one is a more balanced 4-4-2, which is the default diamond shape. Nothing special about it.
Finally, i've got a more defensive minded set. Although I just noticed my wingers were set to "midfield wingers" and not DW, so changed that.
So, is changing the shape "enough" to keep opposing managers on guard? I'm starting to notice that the scouting reports i'm getting aren't accurate, as i'm fielding 4-2-2's and expecting 4-2-2, but the last match, for example, i got a 4-3-3, which looks more like a 4-5-1.
