arsenals young midfielder fran merida looks like his going to athletico after agreeing a contract with them. what do all the arsenal supporters on this site think of him leaving and leaving on a free

Source?

If it's true it's a shame for Arsenal, he's 'highly rated' apparently although I've never even watched him play.

Well a lot of people have called him the new Fabregas. Suprised Wenger let him go

when ever ive seen him play his done alright so could be a bit of a shame for arsenal

Back to his home nation and maybe where his family live, no other reason why he would leave Arsenal and there wonder youth setup oO)

He didnt, Merida wanted 1st team football and I thinl he also wanted to go to Spain so he didnt sign a new deal.

Arsene didn't 'let him go' - he offered him a contract but i guess he just preferred maybe a little more playing time in his home country. Great pity - i really rated him, scored a wonder goal in the Carling Cup vs Liverpool

EDIT: yeah what Irish scouse said ;)

Oh didn't know that :O. Still dissapointing for them

Atletico*

But anyways, big loss for Arsenal seeing as though they are look like they are going to lose Fabregas as well.

Be interesting to see how much playing time Jack Wilshere will get next season with the two big playmakers in the First team an also in the Youth team so should be interesting to see what happens..

yer i was gunna say he looks abit stocky. definatly got a good left foot though, good luck to him.

Hope no one thinks being stocky is a disadvantage, look at tevez and even rooney

Who said chubby guys can't play, take a look at Charlie Adam or Frank Lampard, both have a bit of weight on them yet both get the job done at their respective levels

Arsenal lose Merida to Atletico :'(

Merida joined Arsenal in 2006

Arsenal midfielder Fran Merida is to return to Spain after he signed for Atletico Madrid on a free transfer. The 20-year-old Merida, who has joined on a four-year deal, has been at Arsenal since 2006 after he was signed by boss Arsene Wenger from Barcelona.
But he failed to break into the first-team and last season was only used as a substitute in four league games.
He scored against Bolton in the league and started four games in the Carling and FA Cups and the Champions League.
Merida also scored a stunning goal in Arsenal's 2-1 Carling Cup win over Liverpool in October.
The Spaniard, whose contract with Arsenal expires on 30 June, is due to be presented by the Europa League champions at the Vicente Calderon stadium on Friday.
