How to give it to someone?

click on the player, to the advanced page, there should be a box you can tick

There is no free role box now,just tick to allow them to roam,its the same thing.

i never have a player with a free role in any of my teams, probably why i didnt notice lol

In the new tactic creator just allow the player to roam from position and give him high creative freedom. It should still be there in the classic tactic creator.
