Hi guy's,

I finally bought the game using steam (As it was reduced). I've been playing it for about 14 hours now, playing test saves.

I was hoping you could give a little bit of advice though about setting the game up properly.

1) Is it possible to have a football manager in a window instead of full screen?

2) When creating a new save is it possible to have choose several leagues that are playable? I know how to do this but it takes an age when simulating other leagues fixtures every time. For example if I start as Hull City and select Spanish, Italian, Scottish ect... to be playable later in the game, every time you click 'continue' It simulates all the fixtures in them leagues and usually takes around 10mins to complete. Can I prevent this?

3) If you don't choose a league at the start, is it no longer possible to buy a player from that league? For example if I started as Hull City and did not select the Spanish leagues to be playable at the start would I no longer be able to buy for example David Villa?

4) Is there any difference in choosing a small database over a large database when starting?

5) Can I search for players buy their club in the transfer screen?

6) Can I choose which sponsors I want? For example one season I could sign a deal with Nike.

7) Can I upgrade my stadium capacity, and other stuff for example increasing ticket costs?

8) Whats the recommended playable amount of leagues to start of with at start? Once these leagues are final, would it no be possible for example in my 5th season to manage a spanish side if i did not select Spanish leagues to be playable at the start.

9) For some reason when searching for players buy their names in the transfer window some times I get no results. For example If i searched for 'Andy Van Der Meyde' no results come up even though I spelt his name right.

10) Can I search for players listed as a free agent?

11) Is it possible to arrange friendly's?

12) This is out of pure interest... What would happen if I had a really old manager (95) and I had been playing the game for say 10 seasons making me around (105 years old) would I be forced to retire? I'm guessing you can't die? <)

That's all the questions for now, I'm sure I'll have more.

Thanks,

FC

1) yes it is possible, from memory it is under preferences and sound/graphics

2) if you go to game detail once you've created it then you can change the leagues that you can get jobs from and i think this may affect the detail they are in/ just load them up as view only so you still get detail from the leagues but can't play them

3) you can still buy some players from that league but the clubs wouldn't be in as much detail

4) small database runs quicker but obviously has less players

5) not 100% sure what you mean but if you go club then transfers you can see all transfers by that club
e.g. manchester united then transfers would show you all transfers manchester united have going in and out for that season and you should be able to scroll through the seasons

6) no the game automatically signs sponsers

7) if you go board room then you sometimes have the option in a dropdown menu above budget sliders but it normally only works if you're really well liked by the clubs board and you are filling out you're stadium.

note this is also dependent on council permission

8) you can't change which leagues are playable when you've already started without starting a new game, i would recommend starting a game with all the leagues you would ideally like and then cutting down each time until you get a speed you are happy with as it is a different amount for different machines.

9) maybe he doesn't exist on your game, try searching only his first name or only his lastname (he could be andrew)

10) yes go on player search, then when you search add the condition contract status expired

11) yes you can but you aren't garunteed to get teams to accept. you have to go club fixtures, arrange friendly, it is best done preseason.

12) i have never tried it but would assume it would be very hard for a 105 year old to get a job. also you might get bored of your save or it might become too slow before you get that far.

hope it helps:)

Thanks for your reply, sammyt.

To explain question 5, on the transfer window there is a dropdown with conditions (e.g Nationality, Age ect..) is it not possible to search by club to you can see all the current players playing for Man U?

13) When playing a fixture, I've seen screen shots from other people with 3d graphics, for some reason for all views it is just a black screen apart from the 2d versions. Do you have to have certain specifications for this to work?

Thanks,

FC

going back to question 5 i don't think there is but if you go to that teams squad and go on filters then you can make it so you can see all there players from all their squads.

13) you probally do but i don't know what they are.

to be honest if you wanted to see all the players playing for the clubs you would just click on the club, or is that not what you mean?

13) maybe your graphics card doesnt match the requirements for the 3d engine. firsts thing make sure your graphics card drivers are upto date, then in preferences, lower the quality of the 3d engine

Just checked the requirements and the comparison is higher if not double the specified. I'll try the game on my MBP when it comes next week.

As for searching for the players in the club, I just thought it would be easier to go Transfers > Criteria: Club > Man U.

From their you can see all the players that play for Man U and whether they are listed for sale, loan, ect. If this can't be done then that's fine.

Not sure how to 'Click on the club'. Do you mean the World button at the top and navigate to the club that you wish to view?

14) At the start of a season, when it says to you want to add bonus's for league or cup, by clicking high bonus' does this increase moral or any other statistics?

15) Can you arrange press conferences at any time?

16) On the press conferences it seems that it's only the same few reporters attend, and ask the same kind of questions... does this become more varied later in the game?

17) Is it wise to rest players if their status is low after games? i.e telling them to rest for a week?

18) Should I be changing my training regimes every day, or should I just leave training?

19) If my training regimes are working, does it improve player attributes?

20) If a particular player has a stella season, does his fee rise or are all fee's fixed?

21) Like above if you nurse a player through the academy, does their fee grow over time?

Thanks,

FC

that is one way of finding them yes but i would suggest going england premier league manchester united,

14) i think high bonus makes them extra focussed on that comp and if you set low bonus then they know that it's not very important, e.g. if you look at aston villa's season then they sacrificed europe for league and this would be done with low continential and high league bonuses.

15) no but you automatically get them before and after every game and after you make a signing

16) not as far as i've played although if you are a small lower league club and make it to the premiership i would assume you get bigger media sources interested in you so more journalists.

17) if a player has low condition then tell him you are going to rest him before you do so there is less chance he will get annoyed with you

18) i would give them a training regime you are confident with and leave it

19) it will make the players train better giving them better condition and it should make young players improve faster

20) fee's can rise and fall depending on form, which club they are at, reputation and a few toher things

21) yes when they get a higher CA (current ability) they will get a higher value and a better reputation.

Thanks again for your reply!

A few more questions which are annoying me...

22) If at the start you have selected to play the English leagues and you have chosen to play 5 levels (Prem, Champ, L1, L2 and Conf) and you choose to manage Chester (Conf) and you get relegated, do you get sacked as you have not chosen to add the Conf North/South?

23) Is it possible to go into debt, administration, liquidation on the game?

24) From the above, do you get penalized for this, e.g point reductions, transfer embargo's?

25) As the game progresses do old players retire?

26) As the game progresses and your youth players become no longer are youth players, is another simulated in their place, or do you have to buy them from other clubs...

To explain this for example I'm playing as Hull City...I have my youth team and all of them progress in to reserve/First team players... do I have to then scout other youth players to replace them or does the game automatically simulate youth players...

I think that covers my initial questions, again thank you to all who has contributed!

22) very good question, not actually sure

23) yes, but not liquidation

24) yes

25) yes

26) players come, and you can also buy them if you think yours wont be good enough

dont think of football manager as a game, think of it as a simulation, its ultimate aim is to make it as close to real life as possible, so if it happens in real life, it can probably happen in the game, so treat all actions you make like that

22) yes it happened to me in an online game where i took over an already down team with 2 games to go

the mad sheep gave good correct answers for 23-25

26) like the mad sheep said they do get replaced on your team so you will always get a fresh supply every year, but you will find that the best youth players come from other clubs and you will have to do a search for under 21 year olds.

this link gives you the dates that each nation gets new youth players, or regens as they are commonly known as.
