Pre-season roundup

A solid start to pre-season and the tour of Spain with a 2-0 win against Tenerife. It was a slightly disappointing attacking performance as we missed many chances throughout the game but it was settled in the first half when Deeney smashed a shot from 25 yards into the top corner which was hopefully a sign of things to come.

Next up on the tour was Lugo and again it was the same as the first match, a poor attacking performance which was again settled by a Deeney goal. However, we was not as solid in defence as i would have hoped which was slightly worrying.

The final game in Spain was more like it. A tweak to the 4-3-3 formation saw the very best of our team as we stormed to a 5-0 victory and kept another clean sheet. Gomis was the star of the match as he grabbed two assists and a goal, his first of pre-season.

Back in England and we had a match against feeder team Newport County, we sent a weakened side to the game with a lot of U21 players playing the majority of the game. However, it took the first team players to make the difference when Albrighton bent in a lovely free kick and Deeney pounced to bag his third pre season goal.

The final four games were used as confidence boosters and we were not disappointed as we scored 30 and conceded 0. Bafetembi Gomis hit form scoring 12 of those goals while Sigurdsson also grabbed himself 8 goals from central midfield. These results boosted morale and we are more than ready for the visit of Chelsea on the first game of the season...
