I started a new game with Manchester United and realised that my obvious area for strengthening was in the midfield. With Darren Fletcher out for a few months and the lack of quality in Tom Cleverly and Anderson, I went about trying to bring in some real midfield talent. Firstly I acquired Claudio Yacob from West Brom. You might be thinking that this is a strange signing but as I was trying to offload Anderson and possible Cleverly and with Giggs ever aging, I felt we needed a defensive minded, tough tackling, premier league established body who I could pick up at a relatively cheap price.

I really wanted a creative midfielder, someone in the mould of Juan Mata and David Silva. Someone that can feed Robin Van Persie and Wayne Rooney. After many scout reports and previous Football Manager experience, I went for Gaston Ramirez. He has real quality in the right attributes and has premier league experience. He is young, ever-improving and has the right personality to fit in well at Manchester United. He?s not that expensive either.

Anyway, I have six games to go in my first season. I am one point clear at the top of the league, winners of the capital one cup and have a healthy 3-0 advantage over Galatasaray in the quarter final of the Champions League. However, Ramirez hasn?t had a great season. His average rating is around 6.7 and he is yet to score for the Red Devils. Although his stats are improving, every time I put him on the field, he seems to be anonymous. Granted, he hasn?t had too much game time down to my successful 4-4-2 tactic which I tend to use at Old Trafford which has lead me to go unbeaten at home in the league so far this season. I have tried to feature Ramirez in my 4-2-3-1 formation which I usually deploy when away from home. I just can?t seem to get the best out of Gaston! His morale is good, attributes are high and yet his performance stats are low. What am I doing wrong with the Uruguayan?

With the summer fast approaching, I need to decide if I should send him out of loan, cash in on him and bring someone else in or modify the formation and playing style to suit him more. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Im having the same problem with Rafinha, form Barca, in my Munich save.

Change the role he plays, maybe that's the problem. IMO, keep one more season.

It's frustrating isn't it?

I've tried him as an advanced playmaker and trequartista and he still can't produce.

cash in on him and also a tip from me i've been man utd manager on my save for 5 years now and i've made them the best team in the world on my save make your formation 4-2-3-1 with wingers play januzaj out on the left wing get in a good quality experienced left winger to rotate on the right stick with zaha & valencia in the hole kagawa & younger player with potential sell rooney best thing i ever did & for the future a few years down the line marquinhos makes an excellent partner for jones its taken my man utd side back to the days of vidic & ferdinand in there peak go all out for 2 midfielders 2 when you want to replace carrick busquets & javi martinez arturo vidal & marchissio are good options too

Lol. If we're talking tactics, you can't go much wrong with Gaston Ramirez. I play as a 4-2-3-1(4-3-3). With a BWM(D) and CM (Auto);; Two AML/AMR Wingers on attack. An AM (Support), and a TM on attack. Use Ramirez as an AM in that formation, he'll be a monster. You can't just keep trying roles, the roles have to suit the roles of other players in your team, then only can he produce.
