I cannot get 4-2-3-1 to work with any team or any combination of players!
Anyone got any tips?
I just won the league with newcastle 3rd season but Im very defensive so wanted to change to 4-2-3-1...Ive lost my first 5 games, didnt win any pre season games. Same thing happened after I won the league with chelsea, the year after I changed to 4-2-3-1 and couldn't win a game...
Anyone got a link to any that work?

For me it worked to drop both CMs to DM and AM/RL to M/RL, thus creating a 'faux' 4-2-3-1.

Wide midfielders/wingers on attack duty still push up high when in possession, so the average position map doesn't really differ from classic aggressive 4-2-3-1s with 'real' AM/wingers. But they do MUCH more defensively and cover more ground. While your typical IF/A sits high in defense and rarely ever closes down the play in his area, the M/RL is a defensive player first, attacker second.
When using Wide Midfielders, you can even set them up to play as Inside Forwards by checking 'cut inside' in individual instructions. Then, dropping your d-line deeper and playing Counter/Rigid or Standard/Rigid, you get a nice solid back end that can really deliver deadly counter attacks.
Getting brilliant, attack-minded Wide Midfielders with the necessary work rate and defensive stats is a bit of a chore, tho.

Blarry what results do tou have? This is my favorite formation, can you upload the tactic?

I've also had issues with the 4-2-3-1 formation, but I think I've worked out a few things neccessary for the 4-2-3-1 to work.

First of all you need to play "Very Fluid" otherwise you team will get split right down the middle and you will concede too many goals.

You also need to apply "hassle opponents" and "push forward".

In terms of player inctructions you need both your back to play as supporting full backs and one of the CM to be a BWM.

Within that framework you can adjust it to the style that you want. I personally play short passing and let my wingers roam. Playing one of the CMs as a DM can also be effective.
